Looking back at you preliminary
task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from I to full
product?
Preliminary task
During my preliminary task I made quite a few
mistakes, for example no sticking to the 180
degree rule and having to re-film a bit of it.
Although, I learnt a lot from the preliminary task
such as camera angles and when and how to use
them, I also learnt the basics of editing like
cutting and grouping.
Research
After the preliminary task I researched adobe
premiere, the software we were to use for the
thriller. I learnt more about sound and colour
editing techniques and was able to apply them
to my thriller when I needed to.
Filming techniques
The 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot were
not needed for my thriller so we did not use
it, there were no conversations or interactions
between two people.
We did use match on action during the end
scene when the girl walks into the garage and
sees the other girls on the floor.
Storyboard and schedules
The storyboard was helpful to set out what we were
going to film and to make sure everyone in the group
was in the same mind set for shooting but when it
came to actually filming we felt we didn’t need to use
the storyboard as we all discussed everything we
needed to do while filming.
In the same way the schedules were helpful for us to
inform our actors about times but we found it hard to
stick exactly to the schedule and ended up having to
film on another day. Therefore we should have tried
harder to stick to the schedules discussed.
Changes
During filming we came across some dificulties
with some shots therefore we had to make
decisions on how we would change some shots.
This happened with our first shot and is how
came across using the 360 degree shot in the
way that we did. When it came to the last scene
we wanted a sense of randomness about the
girls and how they were spread out so we made
the decision of positions at the time.
Time
During the filming day we unfortunately did not
stick to correct time schedules and neither did
our actors therefore we had to film over two
days instead of our plan which meant we could
have finished in one day.
Managing crew
Luckily our actors were very easy to manage and
they did what they were directed to do therefore
our shots went smoothly, some times we were
unsure exactly what shots we wanted so we shot
them from different angles.
Luckily our location was a house for a lot of it so we
were able to organise that with ease but when it
came to the forest following scenes it was a little
trickier as we had to get actors and equipment to
different places. But we organised I well and made
sure timings were correct so we could get the
filming done swiftly to make sure we took less time.

  • 2. Preliminary task During my preliminary task I made quite a few mistakes, for example no sticking to the 180 degree rule and having to re-film a bit of it. Although, I learnt a lot from the preliminary task such as camera angles and when and how to use them, I also learnt the basics of editing like cutting and grouping.
  • 3. Research After the preliminary task I researched adobe premiere, the software we were to use for the thriller. I learnt more about sound and colour editing techniques and was able to apply them to my thriller when I needed to.
  • 4. Filming techniques The 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot were not needed for my thriller so we did not use it, there were no conversations or interactions between two people. We did use match on action during the end scene when the girl walks into the garage and sees the other girls on the floor.
  • 5. Storyboard and schedules The storyboard was helpful to set out what we were going to film and to make sure everyone in the group was in the same mind set for shooting but when it came to actually filming we felt we didn’t need to use the storyboard as we all discussed everything we needed to do while filming. In the same way the schedules were helpful for us to inform our actors about times but we found it hard to stick exactly to the schedule and ended up having to film on another day. Therefore we should have tried harder to stick to the schedules discussed.
  • 6. Changes During filming we came across some dificulties with some shots therefore we had to make decisions on how we would change some shots. This happened with our first shot and is how came across using the 360 degree shot in the way that we did. When it came to the last scene we wanted a sense of randomness about the girls and how they were spread out so we made the decision of positions at the time.
  • 7. Time During the filming day we unfortunately did not stick to correct time schedules and neither did our actors therefore we had to film over two days instead of our plan which meant we could have finished in one day.
  • 8. Managing crew Luckily our actors were very easy to manage and they did what they were directed to do therefore our shots went smoothly, some times we were unsure exactly what shots we wanted so we shot them from different angles. Luckily our location was a house for a lot of it so we were able to organise that with ease but when it came to the forest following scenes it was a little trickier as we had to get actors and equipment to different places. But we organised I well and made sure timings were correct so we could get the filming done swiftly to make sure we took less time.
