3. Kids can relate to, or understand what is relevant. Kids can apply what is REAL to their own lives and what is going on in their world RIGHT NOW!

4. Relevant- Apples are 20 cents each. How many can you buy with $1? Real- If all map packs for your favorite Xbox game cost 300 Microsoft points, how many points would you need to buy 5 map packs? Kids have an actual frame of reference for things that are real to them, thus reinforcing WHY it is important for them to learn it. (I actually tested this on my 16-year-old and it worked!)

5. Real learning in the here-and-now occurs when students can envision how subject matter actually affects their personal lives and will continue to influence their world in the future. So how do we know what is real to students?
