The student learned a great deal from their preliminary task to the full thriller product. For the preliminary task, they did not properly use camera angles or the tripod, resulting in shaky footage. However, for the thriller, they used better camera settings like night vision, ensured the tripod was leveled, and used more shots to engage the audience. The student also improved at editing using effects and joining clips, having gained more experience using the software. Overall, they believe taking more time to plan was key to the thriller being more successful than the preliminary task.

2. From our preliminary task to our actual thriller opening, I feel like that I have learnt a lot. When we first had to complete our preliminary task, I wasn’t fully aware of how to use a camera and the various different angles in which you could use, due to this fact my preliminary task wasn’t very successful.In our prelimiary task, we had to make sure that we included three main shots which were:Match on match action

4. 180 degree ruleWe included these shots into our preliminary task, however they looked very basic and didn’t make the footage look interesting. As the preliminary task goes on the scenes become very ‘shakey’ as we didn’t use the tripod properly. For example, we didn’t make sure that the camera was level and we was also moving the camera whilst on the tripod.

5. When it came to filming our final product I felt like I had learnt more on the cameras which helped make our footage look more professional. An example of us doing this is when we changed the settings to night vision when we was filming a character in the bed and in the preliminary task we had the settings normal. When using the tripod, we made sure that it was leveled at all time and still so that the film wouldn’t look blurred, we also decided to use a HD camera which made the quality look a lot better. In our thriller opening, we used many more shots than the original three which we mainly used in the preliminary tasks. By us using more shots I think that it engages the audience more as they are not viewing the film in the same shots at all times.

6. When it came to editing our preliminary task, we wasn’t very familiar of how to use ‘final cut’ which means that our editing wasn’t up to a very good standard. However, when it came to editing our ‘Unknown’ Thriller opening, I felt like I was more experienced and had more time which meant that I could make our opening look more effective. When using ‘final cut’ to edit my opening, I learnt how to add effects such as dissolve to join clips together which makes the scenes look more interesting and professional the way they join together. Overall, I feel like that as a group we didn’t give ourselves enough time to plan our preliminary task which may be why it wasn’t as successful as our thriller opening. On the other hand, when it came to planning and researching into our thriller task, we made sure that we gave ourselves enough time to make sure that everything was planned out which may be a reason of why our thriller task came out better.
