This document summarizes how a media product represents various social groups, including class, gender, and sexuality. It discusses how two main characters from the middle class are portrayed through their appearance and behavior. An upper class character is the killer and is depicted through more formal attire. Gender stereotypes are also followed, with the female character portrayed as fearful and the male characters as protective and strong. The two main characters are in a heterosexual relationship and display affection. The clown killer's sexuality is ambiguous but initially shown as asexual through a lack of interest in relationships. In totality, the document examines how the media product navigates both reinforcing and challenging social stereotypes across these various groups.

Social Groups.
Social groups we have looked at
and have revealed in our product.
In our media production, we have decided to
represent the following: (Relating to social
groups)
 Class
 Gender
 Sexuality
For this representation, we have both
followed and battled against the stereotypes
revealed throughout our media product. This
will be explained thoroughly and in-depth
throughout each page on the separate sections.
In society, Social Groups have
split into different categories
such as Women, Men, Peers, The
Elderly, Adults, Teenagers,
Children, Friends, and Neighbors
etc. We looked into this deeply to
choose how we represent our
social groups.

Class.
Class is ‘a system of
ordering society
whereby people are
divided into sets based
on perceived social or
economic status.’
These classes are set
upon;
 Working class
 Middle class
 Upper class
Throughout our own
media product, we
have focused two of
our own characters
from the ‘middle
class’ whilst we based
our third character
from the ‘upper class’
Upper Class Character
Even though we had one
character in our Upper Class, we
decided to really focus on this
character. We chose the killer to
be the upper class character due
to it becoming a fright and a
cause of concern for the
audience. For the costume, we
decided to keep our character in
a formal suit with formal shoes,
his hair cut short, and this shows
his formal look. The only thing
about his outfit that is informal
and not upper class is the clown
mask. We did not have to worry
about Dialect, as he does not
speak, but more on behavior, as
we had to keep him formal,
smart and extremely sensible
until the killing of the other
character.
Middle Class Characters.
Our media product represents the two
teenagers from a middle working class
in the stereotypical way. The way we
shown this were through, firstly the
appearance. This appearance was
based upon local brands that are not
worn by the upper class such as
Primark, Sport-Direct etc. Moving on
from clothing, we decided to keep
their hairstyles simple and natural
looking instead of glamorous and neat
which shows the realistic situation in
everyday life. The behavior and
dialect focused on was mainly to keep
their attitude less aggressive and
family like with manners, as we do not
want them to be mistaken for the
working class. The use of shortened
words was acceptable, such as ‘Town
speech’, as pronounced words would
resemble the Upper Class.

Gender.
Gender is ‘the
state of being
male or female
(typically used
with reference to
social and
cultural
differences rather
than biological
ones). The
gender we looked
at are set upon;
 Feminine
 Masculine
Throughout our
media product,
we focused one
of our characters
in the
stereotypical
view of feminine,
one on the
masculine
stereotype whilst
our third
character stays
completely in the
stereotypical
masculine form.
Feminine characters:
The only feminine character is
actually our biological female
character. To begin with, the
femininity shown was through
her emotions and actions. These
emotions and actions were once
again placed in the stereotypical
view as she was shown to be
‘fearful’, ‘reliable on her
boyfriend’, ‘scared’ and
‘frightful’. The character ‘s
clothes were also extremely
important. The reason for the
importance of her clothes, is that
her own femininity fights against
the stereotypes, as she is not
shown to be wearing a dress and
a cute little outfit but instead an
outfit which shows more of a
‘masculine’ look with jeans and a
similar bad boy jacket.
Masculine characters:
Our two biological male characters
shown placed were in the stereotypical
view with being ‘Masculine’. The
masculinity shown was through the
actions of these two characters. The
actions were the way the Clown would
walk with an aggressive stride with pride
as well, whilst the Boy would look out
and search out the problem to protect his
girlfriend. Moving on from this, the
appearance can be included mainly for
the Clown. With the clown having a tight
suit to show his features tightly on his
body with the clothing, he shows the
audience how strong he really is, as a
masculine person would be in a
stereotypical view. The other male
character only shows this masculinity a
little, with only the ‘Bad boy’ jacket.
Other than that, the male character fights
against the stereotypes with his actions.

Sexuality
Noah and Ava’s sexuality:
The first two main character‘s
‘sexuality is really focused upon. The
characters Noah and Ava who are in a
relationship in the media product,
sexuality are both Heterosexual. This
means that their sexual preference is
focused upon the opposite gender.
The way sexuality was shown, was
through is through their attraction
together and the registered actions
between each other. These registered
actions started from hugs, to slight
kisses on the cheeks to then the male
figure protecting his ‘loved one’. The
female character Ava is shown to
continuously move close to the male
character with hugs and sitting close.
The male character Noah is shown to
kiss her cheek and become extremely
protective over her own safety.
Sexuality is ‘a person’s
sexual orientation or
preference’. These sexual
preferences are placed
into the following
categories;
 Heterosexuality
 Homosexuality
 Bisexuality
 Asexuality
 Polysexuality
 Pansexuality.
Throughout our media
product, we have focused
on sexuality due to two of
our actual characters
being in a relationship
with each other. Our
sexualities are shown
mostly in stereotypical
views.
Clown’s Sexuality:
In our media product, our
Clown’s sexuality is
shown to be Asexual, due
to his revelation showing
to not be interested in any
sexuality throughout the
film opening. This is
shown in a stereotypical
view as he is shown to be
not interested in that
manner and only murder.
But then again his
sexuality is kept
ambiguous, as no one
knows the reason behind
or what happens after the
killing of the female
character Ava.
