2. Representation of Gender
• In our film, the main character appears to be the
stereotypical strong male lead that is often seen in horror
films.
• The low angle shots make him seem dominant especially
when compared to the shots of the secretary where the
shots have been filmed above here thus lowering her
status. She is seen to be looking up at the male lead as
he towers over her.
3. Gender Continued.
• Stereotypically in horror films, the female characters is
represented as being dumb, blonde and often seen as the
‘sex appeal’ for the male character. We have fulfilled this
stereotype in our product as our female character is seen
as being blonde and wearing a short skirt, however she
shows no interest in the male lead when he appears to be
checking her out.
4. Gender Continued
• As previously mentioned, the male is often the strongest
character in horror films which we appear to have
stereotyped in the beginning however once things start
going wrong we have subverted from the stereotype as he
turns to run away instead of facing the problem. This
makes him the victim instead of the hero.
5. Age
• In most horror films, there is often an older character
present to offer comfort and advice to the younger
characters however we have subverted this stereotype in
our product as he is seen as the villain and the one that
should not be trusted.
• He is seen to be able bodied and frequently disappearing
and reappearing which subverts the stereotype of old
people being disabled.
6. Sexuality
• Our male character is represented as being a straight,
white male which fits the stereotype of a masculine man.
This can be shown through the scene where he is
checking out the receptionist from behind.
