2. When a person imparts information or skills to another, its common to
describe the action as teaching and that person known as teacher.
Imparting may mean to share experiences or communicating
information for instance by lecture or activity.
A teacher is a more mature person who helps pupil to learn. Teacher is
the key component of classroom which initiate teaching learning
process. He creats the enviornment of learning in the classroom. He
must be facilitator not transmitter of knowledge.
3. An ideal teacher is like a glowing lamp that burns itself to bring the students out
from the darkness of ignorance and fills their lives with the light of knowledge.
He illuminates the lives of his students showing them the right path and helping
them to lead a successful and blissful life.
• An ideal teacher is like a role-model in the life of every student whom he loves
to follow blindly. A good teacher helps students almost in every walks of life to
achieve their goals. He is one whom a student fondly remembers even after
he leaves the institute. Even in our ancient literature, the role of teacher has
been described as more than God in the life of a teacher.
• However, not every teacher can be called an ideal teacher. He needs some
special qualities to achieve this level. In order to be an ideal teacher one must
have:
4. • Strong Command over Subject
Matter
• Good Planner
• Friendly and Approachable
• Passion for Teaching
• Love for Students
• Magnetic personality
• Good Communication Skills
• Patient Listener
• Strong Rapport with Students
• Effective Discipline Skills
• Management Skills
• ICT Conversant Skills
• Innovative
• Adaptive
5. This is one of the aspects where a good teacher never compromises. An ideal teacher
should possess a strong command over his subject. He should always keep himself updated
with the latest development in the fields of education and increase his knowledge based
upon the latest trends. It would help him to answer every question of the students and, in
turn, make the subject interesting for them.
Great teachers spend endless hours outside of the classroom preparing, designing lessons,
learning more (both about their subject matter specifically and how to teach, in general),
participating in professional development, and thinking of fresh and interesting ways to
reach the students.A great teacher goes with proper lesson plan with clear instructional
objective in mind about the lesson he is about to teach in the class and ensures that the
objective is met at the end of the period.
6. A great teacher should have good communication skills. If a teacher's communication skills (verbal,
nonverbal, and visual, which involve speaking, writing, imagery, body language, and the
organization of ideas into understandable structures) are good, they can convey knowledge with
better skill and results. He should have regular interactions with parents/guardians of the students
and should keep them informed about the progress of the students on different issues. He should
also inform them if ever he notices any drawbacks or weaknesses in any of them and suggest
correctional measures.
In addition to being good communicators, good teachers also happen to be excellent listeners. As
the Turkish proverb says,"If speaking is silver, then listening is gold." Of course, effective
communication only happens when at least two parties are actively involved in the process
together, and the only way to know if communication is heard is by asking (and listening to the
answer). So in an ideal learning environment, teachers ask important questions and then actively,
carefully, empathetically listen to what learners have to say. When good teachers develop this
patient quality in themselves, they start to become great. Great teachers listen hard and then use
what they hear to improve the communication.
7. S/He should develop a strong rapport with every student and create
such a bond of love and affection that every student would trust
him/her and think him/her to be their real well-wisher.
The best teachers are the most open, welcoming, and easy to
approach. it's the teacher's job to help students learn, they must be
easy to approach. Students will have questions that can't be answered
if the teacher isn't friendly and easy to talk to. The crabby,
unapproachable, terse, mean, arrogant, rude, all-business teacher can't
last long. If the students think of their teacher as their enemy, they
certainly won't learn much.
8. A good teacher should be passionate about teaching. He should understand the psychology
of the students and should try to mould even an inattentive student into an attentive one.
They should be eager to influence students' lives and leave a long lasting impact.
He should love working with students and treat them as his own children. He should be
impartial and teach every student without any bias. He should be attentive to one and all
and try to bring out the best out of them.
The personality of an ideal teacher should be such that can easily draw the attention of
every student towards him. He should create such an impact that every student would love
to attend his class.
9. A good teacher should know how to maintain proper discipline in the
class without reprimanding the students. He should be able to create a
positive atmosphere of learning and teaching in the classroom.
An ideal teacher should possess good classroom management skills. He
should have a fair knowledge of students' psychology. It would help
him manage his class more effectively and grow better learning habits
amongst the students.
10. An ideal teacher must be innovative in context of
method, approach and presentation of content befor the
students.
He should be adaptive in nature. Mode of
transactions may change with th passage of time, so a teacher
must be a true learner and ready for the changes and adapt
the changes.
He must be competent enough in ICT skill. ICT
Skills are as important as teaching and communicationa skills.
In this digital era without ICT skills nobody cannot survive.
11. Although it is not easy to
acquire all the above
qualities but it is not
impossible as well. We
should remember that
practice makes a man
perfect. If one have a
strong determination and
strive hard, then it is
quite possible to instil all
these qualities and
become an ideal teacher.
