2. introduction
The teacher plays an important role in the system of
education. Teachers are considered to be “builders of
nation”. On him depend the future of the country and in
fact the future of mankind. A teacher shape the
personality of the child. So, we can say that a teacher has
a unique opportunities and a vital role to play in
contributing to the overall development of the child.
According to Rabindra Nath Tagore- “A teacher can
never truly teach unless he is still learning himself.”
Therefore, any teacher of his subject can continue to grow
and be effective in his or her work, if he is aware of what
is new and changing in the field of subject.
3. Vivekananda once also claimed that “The true teacher
is he who can immediately come down to the level of the
student and transfer his soul to the student’s soul and see
trough and understandthrough his mind. Such a
teacher can really teach and none else.”

4. Knowledgemanager
A traditional responsibility of the teacher is to pass
on information, knowledge and understanding of the
contents of the study. This information can be delivered
using various teaching methods. The choice of method is
the challenge in teaching. We know that teaching is an
intentional activity which aim at bring about learning or
impartation of knowledge in to the learner. So, also as a
teacher must intentional be well acquainted with the
various ways by which he can transfer knowledge, skills
5. and ideas to our students. Teacher must also possess the
mastery of the subject matter, since the students depend
much on the teacher for acquiring new knowledge. No
teacher can impart the knowledge that he has not
acquired therefore, he must prepare adequately well in
advantage.
Facilitator
It is through the help of the teacher that learning
takes place. Teacher does not force learning. He simply
provides such condition that the learning is facilitation.
The effort of the teacher is to equip the child for receiving
their knowledge. According to Swami Vivekananda
“learning is the process of discovery of knowledge with in
the mind”. The teacher facilitates this process of discovery
of knowledge.
6. “No one was ever really taught by another, each of as
has to be teacher himself. The external offers only the
suggestion and the rest is to be work out by the internal
teacher, the mind within. This is the real spirit of the
learning process”
For facilitating of learning he should take the
following steps.
1. He should supply vital information. This will be in
the beginning of his teaching. The information may be
about the subject matter which should be given in such a
manner that the student curiosity is aroused and he is
motivatedfor gaining more knowledge about that subject.
2. The teacher must see that the student exposed to the
subject- matter in a gradedmanner in order of difficulty.
The simple subject-matter should follow with the
complex. The programme learning technique of
education is very useful in this respect.
7. 3. The teacher must make available the material for self
-study like books, maps, laboratory equipment etc.
4. The teacher must organize the process of self-
evaluation by the pupil so that so he can access himself
that he has gain knowledge of the subject matter.
5. The teacher also encourage the pupil to apply the
knowledge gained in new situation.

Serving as a mentor for novice teachers leaders.
Mentors serve as role models, acclimate new teachers to a
new school and advise new teachers about instruction,
curriculum, procedure, practices and politics. Being a
mentor takes a great deal of time and expertise and make
a significant contribution to the development of new
professional. Teacher’s leadership is totally based upon
8. his character and personality, he can inspire the students
to participate in different activities in a group.

9. The teacher serves an important function as a model
who exposes students to adult forms of behaviour. This
exposure is necessary if social learning through imitation
is to takes place. When the teacher plays the role of social
model he is serving as the representative of society, the
person who is changed with the task of transmitting the
values and standardsof the community and of the culture
in general and who is perceived by students as
representing or emboding these values.
Teacher Motivator & guide
To be able to motivateone requiresa gooddeal of self-
motivation. It is assumed that his own intelligent
participation in the planning and the implementation of
school curricular and co-curricular programme inspires
the learners group.
10. Early growing years in child life are most crucial, it is
important to be guided by someone who understandsand
guides him towards his better future. Parents are the first
guide for any child and then there are teachers, who
prepare him for his future. A teacher’s entry into the
child’s life comes at a very important juncture, when the
child is learning toadopt to a new change of his life which
is school. Teacher’s task involves pushing the child to do
his best while at the same time make him learn in an
interesting and a creative manner. Students observe and
learn from their teacher’s behavioural pattern and they
adopt it. As students observe them carefully and they are
quick to accept and exercise any new behavior that they
see. Teachers impact child’s attitude. A teacher has a
great power to influence over all development of a child.
They should be models not only as they teach but as they
perform their duties.
Attitude of teacher
11. Positive attitude of teacher towards teaching and
learning also determine the effectiveness of teaching.
Teacher create warm and caring relationships with their
students. Teachers maintain collaborative relationships
with their peers and with parents and community
members. Teacher should have high expectations for the
learning of all students. Teachers should be reflective
about their practice. Teachers should be receptive to
involvement of parents and community members in their
classrooms. All these depend upon teacher’s attitude
towards teaching as well as students.
Conclusion
12. A teacher is a teacher, motivator, and facilitator and
sometimes he is a friend also. He must be a missionary, a
mentor, a reformer and a guide. Teachers are trained in
the art of teaching because of the child. From traditional
closed society, we are moving towards the modern and
egalitarian. So, the responsibility comes on the shoulders
of teachers who are called the “Builders of the Nation”.
