Conclusions
l Fire resistance of laminated bamboo beams decreased with increased load ratio,
increased with increased cross section.
l All beams exhibited flexural failure triggered by tensile fracture of the extreme
tension fibres, and laminated bamboo and bamboo scrimber columns failed by cracking
between the layers and fibres.
l Initial stiffness and ultimate loads of the exposed engineered bamboo members decreased
with increased exposed time, The strain distribution at the mid-span cross-section was
essentially linear for all beams.

Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences Conclusions l Fire resistance of laminated bamboo beams decreased with increased load ratio, increased with increased cross section. l All beams exhibited flexural failure triggered by tensile fracture of the extreme tension fibres, and laminated bamboo and bamboo scrimber columns failed by cracking between the layers and fibres. l Initial stiffness and ultimate loads of the exposed engineered bamboo members decreased with increased exposed time, The strain distribution at the mid-span cross-section was essentially linear for all beams.
