1. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
In our first stages of planning we decided to use the internet to search for inspiring
images and videos. We found a website called Ftape which showcases up and coming
photographers and models work. We also used dazed and confused magazine for
inspiration. We looked at the different kinds of makeup and costume and were also
inspired by the types of shots and framing used in the magazine. We adapted and
constructed our ideas from the research we collected. When thinking about the
different camera techniques we could use to reflect the atmosphere of the song we
used a lot of hand held camera to capture the energy in the chasing scenes. The hand-
held effect creates a much more realistic image and it’s as if the audience are there
with the characters in the video. We attempted to seek permission from the artist via
email on myspace. However we didn’t receive a reply.
It was very useful to watch music videos online and try and adapt techniques
and ideas for our own music video. We looked at editing in particular to try and
create a unique style of editing in our own production. We used Adobe Premiere
to edit our work. In order to create clear binary opposition we decided to use a tint in
all the clips of one character, and a lot of contrast in the other to be able to distinguish
between the different moods and personalities of both characters.

2. During filming we tried to use the HD camera as much as possible and especially
when we were filming close ups because we wanted the image to be very clear. We
tried to avoid using to many transitions because we
wanted the cuts between scenes to be sharp. The only
transitions used were fades at the beginning and the
end when the music video finishes. We synchronised
our miming as closely as possible to insure the
continuity and flow throughout. As well as using
Adobe Premiere we also used Adobe Soundbooth to
edit the sound of the chess pieces falling to emphasise
the anger in the shot. We changed the sound levels to
make sure it was clear with the music.
We sped up the chase scenes in the maze
using a time effect to highlight the chaotic
atmosphere and desperation of the scene. It
helps create pace to the music video and
draws attention to the theme of
confusion.
