Q4: How did you use new media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
By Myrah Ahmed
 The internet helped us with our planning and research
throughout when we had to look and analyse other trailers,
posters and magazines of the same genre which we were
focused on and this was horror. I went onto YouTube and was
able to access other horror trailers and recognise the
conventions of a horror trailer and know what to add in our own
trailer. We had looked at specifically the camera techniques,
editing, mise-en-scene and sound. We analysed particular horror
magazines to see what features we had to add in and looked at
film posters and assured that we had a plan to follow one of
each of the products we were creating. The internet is a new
media technolgy and helped a lot through the construction of
our planning and research for our three products.
Internet
 Blogger: The use of blogger was useful as we were able to blog all the research we had so we were
able to post all the research on when analysing trailers, magazines and posters. We could put up all
the images we had took and the daily blogs of what we had done to keep in progress with all three
of our media products.
 Prezi: We used prezi which was useful and is a new media technology which helped because we
could write our ideas and we did create a prezi of the codes and conventions of trailers which was
useful as it wasn’t all put together but separated in sections which made it easier when we made
our horror trailer. we also used prezi when we had a step to step plan when creating our horror
magazine.
 Slideshare: this was useful because we was able to put up all our ideas of when creating our digital
storyboard of what each shot will be and what exactly we shall put into our trailer. I had a
Slideshare of when creating a magazine analysis along with doing poster analysis. When creating
our audience profile, we made sure we made what our target audience profile on Slideshare so this
was useful once again. Moreover we did a marketing strategy Slideshare to look at the release date,
type of release, format of release etc. lastly we did a Slideshare of the conventions and stylistics
features we must use for our own trailer.
 Survey monkey: We used this to put up our questions about the title for our trailer, title for our
magazine and poster, best tagline for our horror trailer and the title design for our poster
/magazine. All of these surveys helped as we were able to email people from all our years to answer
the survey to get feedback to see which was best and Survey monkey helped as a new media
technology, this was quicker to get feedback and much easier.
Other media technologies
 We had used many tools on Photoshop to edit the images we had taken for
the poster and magazine. We used effects for changing the image by
making it look more professional and this helped with the research and
planning because we were able to style it the way we had planned. We had
used crop when we had to cut some parts of the image we did not want. We
used paint bucket tool which enhanced the image when we turned the
background black in many of the images to make it look more of a horror
poster/magazine. Magnetic lasso tool we used to get the image fully and cut
any bits we didn’t want so when I was editing an image of a character, we
had to make sure it was just her we had to go around and not get any of the
background with the image as we needed this for our poster. I also rotated
the image to flip it horizontal to make it look better. Lastly I used greyscale
when editing the image of Melissa as we had to make the image seem more
scary so we made it greyscale which stood out more than before.
Specific tools on Photoshop
 We used various camera equipment such as the still camera, video recorder,
lights, cradle, tripod and microphone. We used the still camera to take close
up shots, medium shots, high angle, low angle, extreme close up and long
shots. This good media technology helps with the research and planning as
the camera shots we had took were close ups, high and low angles and
these were took from the ideas we had that we had planned. We had to
take close ups when we had to capture the emotions of the victim. I used
the tripod to have the shots and clips being taken correctly without the
camera being dropped and moved about as this made the trailer look
professional. The microphone was used for the dialogues and screams
which were said and this helped because the dialogues said were heard
clearly and loud. The lights were useful because they helped when we
needed light to show the shadows and the characters faces as we had no
lights on so this made it dark but when we had the lights, we could do the
shots and clips effectively. We used the video recorder to record the clips
which we had planned and researched and this was done well.

particular shots
 We used many editing techniques such as fade when Melissa is leaving the
room and lets go of the cupboard and this was used as a special effect as it
emerged into the next shot that was taking place and this all fitted together
well so it looked professional. We changed the pace of sound of the
heartbeats when Melissa was getting into danger and closer to the killer
and this editing was used for effect of the shots being done so both of the
sound and shot were put together without any problems. I used text to add
when I had to write “Lets play a game” and other texts which was part of
the editing process. I also did special effects editing when I selected clips for
the trailer and then had to cut some bits out for the sequence to go well
together. I had to also put them all in order so there is no random clips in
between. I also used filter to make the trailer have some sort of grey scale
so there wasn’t no colour showing apart form the outside scene and this
was good as it looked more like a horror trailer and created tension for the
audience and these special graphics worked well.

 The technologies which I had used for my evaluation were prezi,
blog post, voice note and a slide share PowerPoint presentation.
I used the prezi to start off and this is a new media technology
created and this was better than doing a whole document on
word because it has more effect as it is separated into sections
and it shown step by step and done much more creatively. The
blog post I did was effective because this allows people to see
ideas and the planning and research more clearly. The voice note
clearly allows the listener to know the what we clearly did for
research and planning and lastly the PowerPoint presentation
slide share is effective because this is separated into sections
and allows us to know how all the research and planning was
done.
