Media A2

This is the evaluation for my media
             coursework
In what ways does your media product use develop
or challenge forms and conventions of a real media
text?
My media product uses, challenges and develops many forms and conventions of real media

Many types of trailers I looked at had a dark scary and chilling ambience about them and in
their scenes, however in the actual film there would be scenes that where not all scary
and exciting but when looking at the trailer compared to the whole film these types of
scenes wouldn’t be added in the trailer. After seeing this I was convinced that every shot
I chose to add had to be the most exciting and scary to keep the viewer entertained.

In my trailer I decided to add scary scenes to get the attention of the audience and
keep them hooked. The types of scenes I thought were the scariest where the shots
when my actor suddenly opens his eyes, the scene where the killer appears in the
mirror another scene were the killer jumps out and grabs the actress.

When researching other horror film posters I found that there was a common formula which
kept occurring this was the use of 2 images and these where the killer and a house.
Usually the killer would be looking at the house. So I thought that I would use this
convention as I felt that it was very powerful and the best posters I has seen used this
feature however I challenged this as I thought that my actor would look better looking
away from the house as the image which I used showed a lot of intensity and emotion.

                                                                         These posters all used
                                                                         houses and the actors
                                                                         looking at the houses.

Another feature I chose to stay with was the fact that the movie (trailer, poster and front
cover) had a consistent colour scheme which is used by the horror movie genre. After
doing my research I found that the main colour scheme which was used by most of the
horror films where black, red and white. This was hard to incorporate into the trailer but
to represent the colour scheme I always made the main actor wear black and I would try
to get most of the shots when the light was dark to give the sense of spookiness. I also
created the magazine to have the same colour scheme to be consistent with the other two
             products,

These are some of the
posters that used the
red white and black
colour scheme.

Even though the use of blood, knifes, crows, scary houses and the moon is seen as a cliché I
felt that using them I would enhance the powerfulness of the poster and create a typical
horror poster. I also used these items as most of them are connotations of death and
death was a huge concept of my film as it was a horror/thriller genre.

All these items which are circled where added
                                          additionally.
I added these as I thought it would enhance the
look of the poster otherwise it would of looked
                                          bare would just two imaged.

text?
My media product uses, challenges and develops many forms and conventions of real media

The mis -en- scene I was trying to create was that all my settings which I used where quiet
and looked scary as this would make the scenes look more to the way they should look
in a horror trailer and poster. I also felt that if my settings where good it would enhance
    the shot scariness.

The sound I used was a conventional piece which could be used by other horror trailers. A
few new trailers which I saw on the internet used o more modern type of music as the
backing music however I kept mine classical and traditional as I felt it sounded better
    with my trailer.
When looking at other trailers I felt that not much editing and transitions where used. The
only relevant editing was that the shots were speeded up. After seeing this I decided that
only a small number of shots would be sped up or slowed down.
How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary texts.
 The pieces we where asked to create where a teaser trailer, a poster and a magazine front
cover. These are a standard package of media products which professional film
companies use to promote their films.
 All my pieces which I created combined effectively as they all had a main concept which
was used to promote the film this was the main actor (the killer) therefore I made sure
that I incorporated him into all the pieces (magazine and poster)
 I also made sure that the colour scheme I used was consistent throughout the media texts
which I created. The colour scheme I chose was red white and black, I felt that this was
effective as you could tell that all the pieces where for the same film and they all went
    together well.
 I think that together my ancillary texts compliments my trailer as they all are connected
so they all make you understand the movie better, however in the movie poster I chose to
add a image of a house this was not shown in any other of the pieces I chose to this as
wanted the audience to be left in suspense after looking at the poster. If I was to create
the whole film the house would have been the place where the final scene takes place
What have you learned from your
           audiences feedback?
The response I got for my media products were generally very
    good.
However I was also given constructive feedback on what I could
do next time to make my products better.
These included:
 Speeding up my trailer and the shots which i used to give a
sense of urgency and create more tension in the scenes,
however I only chose to speed up a few shots as I thought
they would make them look better but there was some shots
which looked much better as they where and slowed down.
Another piece of feedback I got was that the scene when my
main actor is standing over the dead body could have been
shorter, this scene is slightly longer then the rest therefore it
makes this scene look more important then the other.
 Another thing that I could of changed which was mentioned
in the feedback was that maybe I could use a voice over to
explain the movie in more detail.
 Some of the shots I used were filmed when it was very sunny
and light therefore this had a effect on the shots as they
looked very bright in contrast to the very dark shots. I could
of lowered the brightness however I felt that the light and
darkness showed that there are two types to the killer and the
lightness of the shot could be a connotation of redemption for
the killer this could also been a reason why the audience This was a general feedback form which I
would have to watch the film to see the outcome.
created and gave to a class of my peers
                                                                        and my teachers
HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN
THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING
AND EVALUATION STAGES.
 In all stages of my production of my media work I used various types of technologies,
ranging from adobe Photoshop, Imovies, blogger and slideshare.
 All these software's helped in the creation of my texts. I used Photoshop for the creation
of my poster and the film magazine this was the best software's as it meant I could
manipulate the pictures I took to my preference. Whilst using this software we had a
Photoshop workshop with a person that is a professional at using Photoshop. He showed
me how to perfectly cut out a image from a background. He also showed us how to make
the image look more natural by adding hair. Another skill I learned using the technology
was using the cloning tool this helped me as the initial picture of my background was
very small so therefore I had to use this tool to clone the sky and make the image bigger
    and better quality.
 I used Imovies to create my trailer using I movies was very helpful as it would allow me
to edit, crop the size, add text and audio to my trailer which was all essential in making a
    good trailer.
 After all my coursework was completed I decided to add my presentation which
included all my research and planning( which was created on Powerpoint), my trailer,
poster and front cover to blogger. I decided to use blogger to showcase my work to other
people so they could view it and give me feedback, this also made it more easier for
other people to view my work. Before adding the contents to my blog I had to convert all
my slides using slideshare so it would be compatible with blogger.
 Adding my trailer to my blog I scribd so it was compatible with blogger.
