1. Q1: In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
My film opening uses the codes and conventions of a teen movie. This is shown by
the music, titles and humour presented by our actors. As the movie is targeted
towards teenagers there are elements in our opening to help establish that it is a
teen movie. For example, the setting is in a school. This is where most teen
comedies are set in. Also, we used sound effects to emphasize certain parts (e.g.
freeze frame sound when the characters are introduced to the audience). The use
of sound effects brings a more comedic feel to the opening. A voice over is used
throughout the opening. Most teen films, (specifically the film ‘Easy A’) have the
main protagonist talk about their life. ‘Easy A’ has inspired us to do this as we
created a voice over so the audience can gain background information on the main
protagonist.
