1. In what ways does your
media product use, develop
or challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
2. House style
Conventional features used
included the banner along
the bottom of the advert,
although we put one at the
top as well (which is a
development) to make it
link more with the front
cover of the cd which also
has this element.
We also made sure we
included the logos of
‘amazon mp3’ and ‘itunes’
as it is a key element that
was present across most of
our case studies because it
is important for the
audience to know where
they can purchase the
single from
However we challenged the close
image usually used and decided to
have a mid shot image of our artist
with him looking away. This is
because we felt in linked more with
the storyline of the song
3. Another conventional feature used
was the quotes and the star ratings
which was used to show the audience
how good the single is without them
having to hear it first. In addition the
names of well respected newspapers
and other media companies add
helps to add prestige to the single if
rated highly.
This image of Tom Odells single advertisement is very similar to
our poster e.g mid shot, casual jacket etc.
4. In terms of the digipack itself, we used used the sketch
of Ed Sheeran on the back of his album for the left inside
of ours. We used a mid shot instead of a long shot and
obviously yellow as opposed to green to fit with our
colour scheme. All these little changes were made so
that we was not directly copying Ed Sheerans house
style
The large black x across the front of Ed sheeran’s album
was replicated on our but placed on the back and was
slightly more spread out which is both using and
developing conventional features.
5. Mise en scene • Another conventional
feature used was the
location shots. We
noticed that this was
very common with
artists in this genre
(folk/pop/indie). This
is why we chose to
use the tunnel from
the video as the right
inside panel of the cd.
• In terms of costume
the clothes were very
casual and usually
consisted of jeans,
trainers, plain shirts/t
shirts etc. This is why
any shots of our artist
involved him wearing
casual clothing.
