This study investigated the relationship between childhood abuse experiences and subsequent victimization in adulthood. 551 female college students completed surveys measuring types of childhood victimization, psychological symptoms, and interpersonal problems. The surveys were completed at the beginning and end of a 2-month period. Results showed that childhood sexual abuse and physical abuse were associated with increased risk of sexual victimization and physical dating violence during the 2-month follow up. Paternal abuse was also linked to greater trauma symptoms and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. The findings suggest childhood abuse experiences can influence the likelihood of revictimization and impact psychological well-being.
