Child Labor During The Second Industrial Revolution
During the Second Industrial Revolution many people were getting jobs because of the growing
industrialization. By the mid 1800 s child labor started to be a major issue. Child labor became a
bigger issue once machines in factories replaced hand labor. Starting in Britain and spreading
throughout Europe and North American many new business and factories started to open. When the
factories started to open they needed more workers for cheap labor. During the Industrial Revolution
child labor increased because of the need for cheap labor, the new inventions and technologies, and
the lack of workers. During the Second American Revolution there was a major increase in the use of
child labor. One of the main reasons child labor increased was because of cheap labor. On a typical
day the children were forced to work from sunrise to sunset. They worked eleven to twelve hours per
day, six days a week. Throughout the day they would get less than one hour for a break. On average
they earned about a dollar every week. Some of the children that were employed were as young as five
years old and were paid these low wages until the age of sixteen. ... Show more content on

Children all around worked in factories, mines, or in the fields picking cotton. These jobs would
provide them with an income to give to their families. Children were paid only a fraction of what
adults were paid. Most of the time children that weren t getting paid were orphan s. The factory
owners justified their absence of payroll by saying that they gave the orphans food, shelter and
clothing, all of which were far below par (Child labor in factories). The items that they could of made

Hospital Birth Defects
Birth Defects Associated With Out Of Hospital Births
At a point in history, Homebirths and Midwives were prevalent when delivering. However; the use of
these two methods plateaued as many people were concerned with the health of the infants and the
mothers. The ultimate goal of delivery is the safety and protection of both the mother and the child.
For a time, and still to this day, women turned to hospitals to ensure that safety. However, as a new
wave of feminism has empowered mothers to take control of the natural birthing process, more and
more women are reverting back to the home birth method. Though homebirth goes smoothly for most
mothers, there is always the potential for complications that many mothers are not prepared to handle.

However, the best choice should be the one that achieves the ultimate goal of the safe delivery. The
statistics hold the records and can be paramount for a mother who wants to make the decision. The
figures indicate that birth at home is risky when compared to birth in the hospital mostly where there
are a delivery complications, and emergency services are needed. According to the Federal birth
registers, out of a thousand babies born at home, 3.9 would likely to have birth defects mostly
associated with delivery emergency and complications. On the other hand, the same statistics claim
that for the hospital based deliveries, only 1.8 of one thousand babies faced birth related defects
(Mathews, Curtin through Friday, 2015). The statists also point out that there is a high risk of
deficiency when the baby is born at home than when born in the hospital environment. The defects as
result of childbirth related complication are high in midwives attended birth than those delivery
process carried out in hospital when there is an emergency. Statisticians document 7 defects per one
thousand deliveries that have associated birth complications with deliveries attended by midwives.
According to the statistics done in the years 2016 by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,
the home delivery has gained favors than hospital delivery in the recent time. This implies that as

Examples Of Academic Dishonesty In The Modern Era
Academic Dishonesty in the Modern Era Since the widespread of technology took place, the amount
of academic dishonesty has increased dramatically. The convenience and accessibility of technology
nowadays is very easy to access, therefore it is much easier for students to cheat. But, the outcome and
long term of cheating will cause more harm and frustration than learning. Academic Dishonesty has
become an epidemic in schools and in society in general because students use modern technology for
inappropriate measures.
Some students may cheat because they have poor study skills that keep them from keeping up with the
material. Therefore, the students result to cheating as a temporary answer and solution to their
problem. In many cases students result to cheating to make it through the subject they struggle on. It
will only hurt the student and make them know less of the learning material. So to solve their studying
problem many perform academic dishonesty without thinking of the consequences.
More students may cheat because they feel they need to have good grades to compare to others. ...

Life Of Brian
The film Hail Mary tells the story of the virgin birth. It is told from a modern setting where Mary
works at a gas station owned by her father and Joseph is a taxi driver. Life of Brian built its story on a
satirical parallel of the life of Jesus Christ; he is born the same day as the messiah and therefore gets
mistaken for being him. While both of these films have religious meanings behind them, they in no
way aim to be disrespectful, make fun or take away from the biblical stories. In Life of Brian his life
was parallel to the life of Jesus. Many perceived this as an attack on religion but what the movie tried
to convey and what the members of Monty Python tried to make clear was that Brian was in no means
Jesus. The film opens with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is doing so in a non traditional way because the story is told from a modern perspective. While
Life of Brian is more of a comedy, this film is more serious. It does not mock the Virgin Mary, but
instead it makes us the viewers see this story in a different light. Growing up in a household that I
would consider to be very religious, I never truly thought about the Virgin Mary. It was just a given
that she gave birth to Jesus and joseph and her raised him. What Godard did with this film was to
make us see that it is not as black and white as we always thought it to be. I liked that this film shows
it in modern times because we are able to connect with it more and analyze in different ways. We
never ever think about what Mary may have gone through and how she may have received the
information that she was chosen to conceive Jesus. We don t think about Joseph and what could
possible be going through his mind and being accepting of such situation. Godard in away makes us
see this very well known story in a different light. The film contains nudity, which can be perceived as
disrespectful, but he does in such a way that it adds to the movie not in a sexual way. Marie s nude
body in a scene of the film tossing and turning painfully in bed, is less fetishized than aestheticized as
the earthly representation of an aching soul s trajectory toward enlightenment.

A Murder In Safrax
The Maid
Everything stood still in the kingdom, and peace was easy to find. Safrax was a magical place and
everyone had a purpose within the city walls. The castle had about one hundred and fifty personnel
and the city consisted of about eight thousand people. The city streets were always packed and the
markets full of food. You could probably say though, that a good portion of the men didn t eat
anything because their bellies were always full of mead. This is what the kingdom was known for,
their strong noble men and the wonderful mead that washes worries away. It did just that until today.
The day that a maid was murdered.
William Henry used to folly in detective business but resided to blacksmithing a few years back. It s
something his father taught him. His old apprentice Walter Hayes is the handyman at the forge. They
mostly get business because of Williams brains. If people have a problem with anything they come
and ask him how to solve it. By now the town crier was running the streets screaming, Deceased maid
in the castle! Cause unknown! This was unheard of. A murder in Safrax cannot be possible. Or is it?
William took no time to gather his things. He didn t stop detective business because he didn t care for
it anymore, but there were no cases to solve. William and Walter were running through the streets
pushing through the river of consumers. While running up to the castle it seemed as though everyone

Motorhome Complaint
This letter is to register a complaint about the extremely poor service life of the Cummins 360 diesel
engine that is in my 2010 Tiffin (Phaeton) Freightliner motorhome.
At 34,569 miles the Cummins diesel engine in my Motorhome required a complete rebuild.
I purchased my Motorhome from an individual with the obvious expectation that a Motorhome with a
Cummins diesel engine would furnish my wife and I with many years and thousands of miles of
trouble free service.
I only purchased the Motorhome after discovering that the individual I was purchasing this

Just the cost associated with the extended out of service time that is required to repair a Cummins
diesel engine would be detrimental to the successful operation of any trucking business. The expense,
my wife and I have incurred when purchasing this Motorhome makes it the second largest expenditure
that we have ever made. That cost associated with the purchase of this Motorhome was significantly
higher because we wanted the reliability of a Cummins diesel engine over a gasoline engine.
Again my wife and I wish to thank the Cummins Corporation for their financial assistance that we
received related to the cost of rebuilding our Cummins diesel engine.
But even with your financial assistance I find it totally unacceptable that Cummins Corporation would
expect a customer to be responsible to the tune of $9000, 00 dollars that was necessary to repair a

Absence Of His Father In Booker T Washington
The name Booker T. Washington is often closely associated with prestige and great success as a leader.
However, before he was the man we know of today he came from a life of struggle and constant strife.
Before he became an image of freedom and intelligence he had to endure not only conflicts externally
for the color of his skin, but internally as well as he struggled to live his life accordingly without the
proper guidance of a father. The autobiography Up from Slavery gives us a new perspective as the
narrative tells the story of his life from slavery to becoming one of the founders of Tuskegee Institute.
Yet, a man with his reputation it would be virtually impossible to reach his stature without having
some sort of guidance from mentors. Of course, throughout the narrative Washington acknowledges
many people in his life who he considered to be a father figure , but due to the fact he was the son of a
slave cook and a white man he never knew, there was never a true biological father son relationship in
his life. This begs the question if the lack and absence of his own father shaped his own self
perception, his relationship with others, as well as his leadership style? By analyzing excerpts and
quotes within the literature piece one could conclude that the absence of his father is something
Booker T. Washington has come to terms with thus not placing heavy burden on his life style and
choices.
For example, a specific quote in the text shows how Washington does not put

My Relationship With Frankenstein
As a five year old, I could sense a supernatural creature always following me. A monster shadowed me
during the day and lurked under my bed at night. The monster howled at night, scaring me and ridding
me of sleep. Protection from the beast appeared in an unexpected form: my wall. The wall lent its
support, muting the monster s incessant screeches as I pressed my face against it. I was depended on
the wall to battle the monster a threat to my well being. Ultimately, my relationship with the wall was
my defense mechanism against the threats of the critter. By the time I was nine, the monster in my life

toned sound persisted in my ear. Tinnitus had consumed my ears and introduced me to the emergency

The Dogs Don t Bark A Lot But They Do Make Other Sounds

The Importance Of Essential For Healthy Family Functioning...
According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family
functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills
(especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual
gratification between spouses. (Peterson and Green) In this section we re going to look at how these
are incorporated into the family s instrumental functioning and their expressive functioning.
Instrumental Functioning As stated earlier in the paper, this family is very set in old traditions. EM
stays home with the kids all day while RM goes to work. While at home EM cooks for the kids, cleans
the house, takes care of the dog, and makes sure the household runs smoothly. They have decided to
homeschool their children when they get a little older, so she is also preparing information and
supplies for that.
Since the kids don t go to daycare, EM has to make sure that they have some interaction throughout
the day, so she brings them on walks to the park. Their daily routine is waking up and having EM cook
everyone breakfast. She packs a lunch for RM and he grabs it before heading out the door. Once the
kids are done eating, EM starts cleaning the house and EJM and HM are sent outside to play. Then
comes lunch time, which according to EM is the craziest part of the day! The kids are tired and crabby
and there is still so much to do. After the kids are done eating they lay down for

increased emphasis on violent video games as a probable cause of gun violence. President Donald

The Existence of God and the Meaning of Life Essay
Canadian author, W.O. Mitchell, is fascinated with the meaning of life. Whether this is a result of
growing up during the depression or simply indicative of Mitchell s deep philosophical thinking, this
theme constantly shows up in his work. In both his humorous drama, The Black Bonspiel of Wullie
MacCrimmon and the eloquent children s Canadian classic, Who has Seen the Wind, Mitchell tackles
the age old question with grace, humor, and care. Not only is Mitchell concerned with the minute
details of human existence, throughout his work, Mitchell constantly evokes a Canadian persona and
creates literature based on the country. Despite Wullie MacCrimmon being a Scottish character, the

Mitchell used the land of his birthplace, Weyburn, Saskatchewan, to place an unknown small prairie
town on a literary map. Butala concludes her article by stating, for many western fans, he was
someone who had lived as they did, who remembered their childhoods for them ... the sights and
sounds and smells of spring on the prairie, bringing to conscious awareness their joy and great good
fortune in being Prairie people. Who has Seen the Wind has become a cultural coming of age story for
western Canadians. W.P. Kinsella argues that, Who has Seen the Wind is the counterpart of The
Catcher in the Rye. It s the quintessential novel of growing up on the Prairies (Shermata 40) and
believes that Mitchell deserved a Governor General s Award for his literature.
While Who has Seen the Wind is an account created with love for the prairies, The Black Bonspiel of
Wullie MacCrimmon is a well written, humorous account of a curling match, also indicative of
Canadian culture. Alan Dilworth, a director of the play, states, it is so archetypically Canadian. There
is something about this that s even more social in the act itself. The chief concern of the drama is one
of religion, leading to a fascinating dissonance between Presbyterians and Methodists. This issue
regards immigrants of Canada of varying ethnic groups. Wullie, the protagonist, is a Presbyterian, as

subculture is centered on a loud, aggressive genre of rock music called punk rock. It is usually played
by small bands consisting of a vocalist, one or two electric guitarists, an electric bassist, and a

Early punk fashion adapted everyday objects for aesthetic effect, such as T shirts, leather jackets
(which are often decorated with painted band logos, pins and buttons, and metal studs or spikes), and
footwear such as Converse sneakers, skate shoes, brothel creepers, or Dr. Martens boots. Hardcore
punk fans adopted a dressed down style of T shirts, jeans, combat boots or sneakers and crewcut style
haircuts. Women in the hardcore scene typically wore army pants, band T shirts, and hooded

One part of punk was creating explicitly outward identities of sexuality. Everything that was normally
supposed to be hidden was brought to the front, both literally and figuratively.
Punk aesthetics determine the type of art punks enjoy, usually with underground, minimalistic,
iconoclastic and satirical sensibilities. Punk artwork graces album covers, flyers for concerts, and

How To Build A Golf Cart
If you own a golf cart, or are thinking about purchasing one, you want to get the most out of your
investment. Adding some useful accessories is a super way to accomplish that objective. Here are four
handy items you can add to your golf cart to increase its usefulness.
Covers and Enclosures
No matter how often you use your golf cart, you want to keep it good condition. An excellent way to
ensure your cart stays looking like new is to add either a functional enclosure, or a custom cover. The
enclosure does more than just preserve your cart s condition. Enclosures allow you to use your cart in
all weather conditions, plus they protect the inside of your golf cart.
Covers will completely protect your golf cart when you re not using it. Just because you add an
enclosure, that doesn t mean a cover is also not a good accessory to have. A golf cart cover is a
protective blanket over your entire cart. It keeps dirt, grime and weather off your investment. Consider

The Ass, The Witch, And The Roman Empire
The Ass, the Witch, and the Roman Empire: Roman Society in The Golden Ass Apuleius The Golden
Ass is the oldest Latin novel from around the era of the Roman Empire to survive in its entirety.
Because of this fact, it means that this novel is a source of great insight into a first hand account, albeit
with fictional prose, of Roman society through the eyes of a well endowed male, Lucius, the narrator
of the novel. Through his travels and his various encounters along the way, both as a man and an ass
(not mutually exclusive) we get to experience the many aspects of Roman society and culture.
Through the novel, we get to experience their societal attitudes concerning gender, sexuality, and
violence. Although, The Golden Ass is written as a fictional prose, for example there s no historical
evidence of bestial transformations in the Roman Empire, the base of the storytelling in which
Apuleius writes from can be seen as a semi realistic representation and accounts of Roman society at
its peak and give us insight into their views on sexuality and gender.
In Roman society males dominated and had almost complete control over the entirety of their families.
Everyone s life was on a string and the patriarch of the household held the scissors that could easily
cut that string. Almost from the start of the novel we get painted an accurate portrayal of this clear cut
gender division and misogyny evident in Roman society. Lucius enters a relationship with Photis, a
slave girl he

Applying for Graduate Studies in Engineering
I am currently working as a Physical Design Engineer at Qualcomm India Private Limited ,
Bangalore, India and I hold a bachelor s degree in Electronics Instrumentation Engineering from
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India. I want to pursue graduate studies
because it provides me the right platform for research. I envision a career involved mainly with
research because it welcomes new ideas, gives me more opportunities to explore my areas of interest
and put forward new theories and implement them on my own. I feel that formulating and developing
ideas is actually always more interesting than merely using them.
Electronics Instrumentation Engineering at JNTU Hyderabad laid the right platform for me in gaining
knowledge in the domain of electronics and its related fields. My interest in circuit design was sparked
by the course Electronic Devices Circuits where I first learned the principles of circuit analysis. I
learned from fundamental concepts to the advanced design and analysis methods of VLSI integrated
circuits and their diverse applications, during my junior and senior years, through courses like Linear
Digital Integrated Circuits, DSP, VLSI design and their associated course projects. I was deeply
impressed by how semiconductors and VLSI have brought forth a reign in electronics industry with
their immensely wide applications.

Analysis Of The Broken Windows Theory
Gladwell slickly introduces a uniquely reasoned theory, The Broken Windows Theory, a few pages

human nature/behavior, he gives examples on how New York began improving after taking it into

Goetz was described of having psychological issues therefore being somewhat mentally ill or at least
not right in the mind and/or emotionally. As stated in page 156,
Psychiatrists talk about criminals as people with stunted psychological development, people who have
had pathological relationships with their parents, who lack adequate role models. There is a relatively
new literature that talks about genes that may or may not dispose certain individuals to crime. On the
popular side, there are endless numbers of books by conservatives talking about crime as a
consequence of moral failure of communities and schools and parents who no longer raise children
with a respect for right and wrong. All of those theories are essentially ways of saying that the
criminal is a personality type a personality type distinguished by an insensitivity to the norms of
normal society. People with stunted psychological development don t understand how to conduct
healthy relationships. People with genetic predispositions to violence fly off the handle when normal
people keep their cool. People who aren t taught right from wrong are oblivious to what is and what is
not appropriate behavior. People who grow up poor, fatherless, and buffeted by racism don t have the
same commitment to social norms as those from healthy middle class homes. Bernie Goetz and those

Major Phases Of A Company Growth
9. The three major phases of a company growth are the entrepreneurial phase, the managerial phase
and the consolidation phase. First, in the entrepreneurial phase a company focuses on its core activities
and on which market paths it should follow. Moreover, in terms of their facility, its policy can be
expected to emphasize on its functional needs rather than expending resources on symbolic features.
Additionally, there might be some uncertainty regarding the company future and a lack of access to
professional knowledge of space management, which may cause overcrowding and badly chosen
timing of relocation.
Second, during the managerial phase a company still focuses on its fundamental activities. . However,
now the company can now adopt workspace layout reflecting hierarchical tendencies. In addition, new
problem may occur requiring experts because of special space requirements. Likewise, because of lack
of management focus on the distribution of the space, issues related to facilities and support services
are dealt irregularly.
And third, during the consolidation phase skills in facilities management are available and use more
constantly. Dependence on cross functional teams and calculated experimentation with teleworking
and other alternative work practices can be expected to imply changes on the layout of the company.
Also, companies should consider to exploit the opportunities to introduce facility management
procedures.

Compare And Contrast Descartes And Pyrrhonian Skepticism
Pyrrhonian skeptics and Descartes s response to skepticism are two interesting reads that make one
curious. Pyrrhonian skepticism has a goal which is the suspension of judgment and tranquility, while
Descartes brings reason and doubt to the senses about what one perceives and feels. This essay will
inform about the Pyrrhonian skeptic and the response Decartes has to the skeptic views.
There are two philosophers, Phyrrho and Sextus Empiricus. Phyrrho lived around 360 270 BCE in his
hometown of Ellis, a Greek city state. He traveled with Alexander the Great on the latter s expedition
to the East, India (Woodcock, B.A., 2017). It is speculated that his exposure to Indian naked wise men
was the inspiration for his philosophical views. Phyrrho ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Academics were criticized because in asserting that doctrine it seemed to be making a claim to
know something, contrary to the central claim of not knowing anything, they know that they don t
know . Pyrrhonian skepticism treat Pyrrhonism as a way of life rather than a doctrine. This way of life
is characterized by a suspension of judgment about questions that go beyond the way things appear.
They believe that they are searches and their disposition is that not one thing over the other is
necessarily correct. This causes them to withhold their suspense of judgment. They firmly believe that
there is no true way of knowing whether something is right or wrong, they keep searching for the
truth, and that people ought to live with the current traditions, laws, and customs of their time they live
in. The end goal of the Pyrrhonian skeptic is to promote suspense of judgment because they claim that
it is in our opinion and personal truths that we develop desires, painful efforts, good and bad, fear, and
disappointment. To accept everything as is, will bring bliss and peace of mind. The Pyrrhonian skeptic
views skepticism as a good thing for they have the skill of finding for every argument and equal and

Risk Factor For Global Disease Burden
Essential or primary hypertension, the world s leading risk factor for global disease burden, is
expected to cause more than half of the estimated 17 million deaths per year resulting from
cardiovascular disease (CVD) worldwide.1 Defined as an elevation of blood pressure (BP) beyond
140/90 mm Hg, hypertension is strongly correlated with adverse outcomes such as stroke, ischemic
heart disease, heart failure, and end stage renal disease. The challenges of managing hypertension and
preventing the development of these latter outcomes are unlikely to relent; the global burden of
hypertension is projected to increase by 60% to affect approximately 1.6 billion adults worldwide by

These patients with resistant hypertension carry substantial risk of adverse events.5 The emergence of
renal artery de innervation may herald a novel and effective procedural option to treat these patients.6
The challenges highlighted are pertinent to many populations. Many low and middle income
countries, most of which are in the midst of the epidemiological transition, face rapidly increasing
prevalence of hypertension in the context of limited healthcare resources. In these countries, diagnosis
and appropriate management of hypertension remains disconcertingly low.7 Developing innovative
and cost effective solutions to improve hypertension diagnosis and control thus remains a key
priority.8 These issues are not limited to developing countries alone; less than 50% of the US patients
have appropriate BP control9 despite good access to care, a wealth of evidence surrounding lifestyle
modification, and the presence of highly efficacious anti hypertensive therapies. Indeed, such
persistent deficiencies have fueled national initiatives such as the HealthyPeople 2020 and the Million

Summary Of The Novel The Wednesday Wars
Have you ever read a book and seen yourself in the main character? This happened to me in the novel
The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt. This novel is about a teenager who goes to his first day of
seventh grade. In his school, on Wednesdays, the Catholic children go to CCD, or Confraternity of
Christian Doctrine, which is a religious education, while the Jewish children go to Hebrew to prepare
for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. However, the protagonist, Holling Hoodhood is Presbyterian, so does not
go to either of those classes, whereas he stays with Mrs. Baker, a teacher Holling believes to hate him
from the first day of school. Throughout the novel, Gary D. Schmidt, through Holling s thoughts and
actions, is able to distinguish Holling s characteristics.

Reality Tv Stereotypes
The concept of reality television has been around since the late 1990 s, starting with the first of it s
kind, Survivor, premiering on CBS in 1999. Viewers loved the authenticity that the show provided,
and as a result, reality TV (RTV) became a mainstay of prime time television. Currently, there are
more than 320 contemporary RTV shows that occupy the television screens of thousands of
individuals. However, the portrayal of women and their regressed stereotypical characterizations on
these RTV shows has become pervasive, specifically in the RTV genre. As evident on The Bachelor
series, one of the most successful RTV shows, the female contestants on the show serve to exemplify
almost every negative stereotype associated with women. The Bachelor mainly acts as a platform for

The Theme Of The Lottery
Judging by Shirley Jackson s title The Lottery I was reading with an expectation to learn of someone

author is but also slightly showing the reality that in some places in the world such things to do

For instance, if this story were to be read to those select individuals in the world that still sacrifice
people for good crops and such things then they would probably think of this story as dull and
uninteresting because nothing is out of the ordinary to them. These sacrificial beliefs are of course

A healthy person is physically strong. In scoutmaster.org it says Take care of your body so that it will

exercising regularly to build strength and endurance. It also means avoiding harmful drugs, alcohol,

The movie, The Name of the Rose is about apprentice Adso of Melk and his mentor, Franciscan friar
William of Baskerville. These two men traveled to a Benedictine abbey to discuss the poverty of
Christ. While at the abbey, there was a series of mysterious murders that continued to take place one
after another. The abbey requested that William and Adso help to solve the mystery of why these
murders were taking place. Through many trials and setbacks, William discovered that a secretive
book was being passed from person to person. He learned that when a person touched the book with

Powerlessness In Dracula
Humans adore all aspects of control, and the most crucial aspect that anyone person can control is
their own life. Many believe how hard someone works will determine what outcome they will achieve.
Humans have a drive to control their lives in hopes to obtain what they desire and deserve. In Bram

that not all can be controlled. There is an ongoing power struggle between the characters and never a

Anne Bradstreet In Reference To Her Children Essay
In 1678, many of Anne Bradstreet s poems were published for public view. Throughout her poems
Bradstreet tends to use symbolism to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. One of these poems
is In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659. Three of the most significant symbols in this poem are
the representation of her family as a flock of birds, the dangers in the world, and the expression of her
feelings toward her children.
Anne Bradstreet s representation of her family as a flock of birds symbolizes two different things.
First, it symbolizes her connection to God and her desire to please Him. She represents herself and her
family as birds because they were also creations of God; however, they are not human, therefore they
do not sin. The bird family also symbolizes freedom. As her young grow up and spread their wings,
they leave the nest to fly on their own. This represents one of the facts of life; children grow up and
leave their parents homes to find their own way to make it in the world. ... Show more content on

Four have already left home, one will leave soon and the other three still dwell in the house with her.
She then begins to express the dangers of the world around her in a bird s point of view. For example,
she is afraid that her young will fall in a fowler s snare, be caught in a net or by birdlime on twigs, or
hurt by a hawk. In a human world a fowler s snare might be fallings into the hands of trickery,
robbery, or any other type of crime. Caught by net or birdlime might represent being in the wrong
place at the wrong time, and a hawk inflicted injury might symbolize being wounded or killed by an
Indian or criminal. She fears for the lives of her children and worries that harm will come to them.
This also represents an aspect of the parent child relationship. No matter how old children get, their
parents still worry about the things they do and the choices they

Benefits Of Genetic Engineering
The field of genetic engineering is an incredibly growing one and it proves to be a topic of constant
controversy. Some believe it to be beneficial to humanity, while others argue that it poses a threat.
Several documents have been published, and experiments tested to support both sides of the spectrum,
but follow of the trend of supporting genetic engineering. While certain aspects put some moral codes
into question, genetic engineering is beneficial to humanity because will lead to a more understanding
and capable society, can be used as a route to incredible possibilities, and it provides people with
better opportunities. Many who attempt to take a stance on genetic engineering are unaware of what it
actually is, and therefore are unable to make a proper argument. There have been several instances in
which a debate has taken place over the topic, yet half of those who participated did not have a proper
understanding of it. In a study taken place to measure the general biomedical and genetic literacy in
the U.S and Europe, results showed that the US came in at the middle rank of 28th among the 34
countries studied (Source F). From this it can be concluded that many of those who attend these sort of
events are not entirely informed and if they were to be informed it would lead to an overall sense of
understanding. Therefore, genetic engineering is beneficial in the way that it will allow for people to
be able to have more capability. Genetics is a field where the

By their very nature, a mortal sin cuts our relationship off from God and turns man away from his
creator. (Saintaquinas.com: 1)
If mortal sin is a grave matter, what does the bible constitute as being a grave matter? One idea to look
upon is breaking any one of the Ten Commandments, although some are not considered as grave as
others. St. Paul offers us a list of such offences, which if committed will not allow the sinner to enter
the Kingdom of God:
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and
witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not
inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians, 1995, 5:19 20: 824)
It would be fair to assume that almost everyone is guilty of at least one of the above sins at some point
in life; however, a being such as Lestat is on a different level of sin. Of course in between these levels
of sin there are sins, which are considered to be of a graver nature, it is obviously a graver sin to
murder than to be a drunk. From this it would be simpler to know that the latter would be considered a
venial sin and not within the same gravity of a mortal sin and therefore the sinner can be saved.
However bad a mortal sin is, according to the

Who Is Weng In The River s Song
Becoming good at a skill for most people takes many steps, and for some those steps aren t exactly
alike. The character Weng, in Suchen Christine Lim s novel The River s Song, exemplifies this. The
novel often switches perspectives between main characters, Ping and Weng, and moves back and forth
through time. Largely based around music, this novel follows both characters through where their
musical journey takes them. Pings journey takes her to America to teach music, separating her from
Weng for much of their adult lives. The novel is set in Singapore for much of the story, and centers
around the cleaning up of their river there, where many people work and live, including Weng. This

where Weng finally transitioned into the musician he is meant to be. Music essentially became his life
for awhile people who become good at anything, at some point dedicated every waking moment to it.
All the previous steps in his life led up to this point. Chong Suk s early influence to work towards
discipline allowed him the ability to stick through all those long hours at school. Weng could not have
made it through that schooling without his father drilling it into him at an early age. His step with Ping
gave him insight on how to play with others and deal with others. Not much is mention on the school
other than that passage but, it seems reasonable to conclude that he would have to teach others in the
school and learn other things from that teaching. All this allowed him to achieve a great deal in the
music community. This is apparent by how even ping living in America had heard about him: I ve kept
in touch with the Singapore music scene as part of my professional interest, and the name of the
orchestra s principal flautist and dizi player, well known in Asian music circles, has not escaped my

Comparing The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Arthur Conan Doyle
The differences are obvious as Arthur Conan Doyle states. (Doyle, 51) As all stories that have been
both stories and books, there will he obviously some similarities and some differences between the
two versions. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and the more recent movie in the
2012 TV series Sherlock , are two great examples to compare and contrast story lines. It is these two
pieces that I will be writing about. Returning to Doyle s quote, it is obvious while looking for
differences. It s what makes each version stand out. Now, the differences may alter the story slightly,
but the similarities bring back the most important details back to the same main idea. As for my
opinion on my personal preference, I will be writing about that as well. The differences are what
makes it unique from the other version, while the similarities bring it back to the same story.
Similarities, differences and my personal opinion will be what this essay is about. To keep the same
plot of the two versions of a story there must be some similarities to keep it on the same track. The
similarities are the main ideas that are found in both versions of the stories. Mr. Holmes, they were the
footsteps of a gigantic hound! (Doyle, 30). This quote is found in both the movie and the book. It was
this quote that started the case, as Holmes did not believe the mystery was real. This quote was going

Paula Hawkins s The Girl On The Train
Thrillers are one of America s favorite genres of movies to watch. If you are a bookworm, a movie
about a book you recently read can be exciting. One major part of any movie that can make or break
the film is the characters casted. The way we see the character while we read it can be completely
different to the character in the movie. There is nothing more devastating than when the movie does
not follow the book either. The Girl on the Train is the perfect example of this inconsistency. Paula
Hawkins famous thriller The Girl on the Train, was made into a movie in two thousand sixteen. This is
one year after it was written. There were some major inconsistencies that I noticed while watching the
movie after reading the book. Besides the obvious differences such as the way the characters looked

The Pros And Cons Of Universal Health Care
The notion of universal health care leads to a diminished flourishing society is one of the many
unsubstantiated reasons why the United States cannot offer universal health care. Universal health care
is a government funded national health care delivery system, which has succeeded in high income
industrialized nations like the United Kingdom. While the United Kingdom ranked 9th in overall
health care systems and the United States 17th, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and
Development (OECD) reported United States health care expenditures are exceedingly more than that
of other high income countries (Bentley et al., 2017). This suggests that affordability is not the sole
issue preventing the United States government from adopting a universal health care model. Despite
their exceedingly high health care expenditures, the United States population suffers greater morbidity
and mortality of preventable conditions than the United Kingdom population(Bentley et al., 2017).The
UNITED STATES health care infrastructure is very unique compared to the United Kingdom,
regardless of their similarities in health care delivery.
While the United Kingdom has a single payer system, which give them control of the marketplace, the
UNITED STATES has adopted a multiplayer system that consists of various private and government
sponsored health insurance options. Approximately 85% of the UNITED STATES population has

Female Genital Motimilation
There are four types of female genital mutilation. The first is clitoridectomy, where a portion of or the
whole clitoris is removed; at times it is only the prepuce that is cut away. The second is excision; this
is the removal or partial removal of the clitoris along with the labia minor and at times the labia major.
The third and most severe type is infibulation, in which women have their labia cut and the remaining
tissue is stitched together closing the vaginal opening slightly. The fourth type is considered any harm
done to the female genitalia for non medical purposes; this includes piercing, cutting, pricking, or
burning of the tissue (Abdel Azim, 2013). There is no anesthesia or pain medicine provided to the
young girls and women that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The psychological repercussions include post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, panic
disorders, depression (attempted suicide is common), and suppression of their innermost thoughts and
feelings. These feelings following the procedure can be worsened based on the sense of humiliation
and betrayal by parents, the amount of force by the one performing the procedure, a negative genital
image, lack of sense of ownership of their bodies, devastating sexual life, infertility. Women that have
type III are prone to distressing psychosocial complications in regard to sexual issues and suffer from
an infertility rate of 30% (Shell, 2017). The infibulated scar makes it hard to conceive a child, and
sexual pleasure is minuscule, thus causing an unbalanced sexual relationship that harbors negative
emotions from both the man and the woman. The man is concerned with the fear and ridicule from his
community that he is not a man and making him question his masculinity. The woman fears that she
will never be able to conceive a child of her own and have a loving family. For these reasons, there is
a 16.3% divorce rate among women who have undergone female genital mutilation (Shell,

Plano Social Environment
In the city of Plano in Texas, hydrogen sulfide has been released by the inadequate sewer lines causing
terrible smells throughout the city. The constant release of the smell can lead to serious health
problems for the citizens. This article relates to Week 3 Lecture about Physical and Social
Environment, which describes the terrible smell, which is hydrogen sulfide has an indoor and outdoor
pollutant. As an indoor pollutant, the smell enters people s homes through their toilets. As an outdoor
pollutant, sewers lines were poorly designed leading to the release of hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen
sulfide as an indoor and outdoor pollutant is detrimental to people s health because people are exposed
to the gas by breathing in the air from all areas. The article relates to the community level of the
ecological model. In the article, the city installed carbon air filters and sealed the manhole covers as
they continue to monitor the levels of sulfide in the air. This shows that the Plano officials are
concerned about the effects of the hydrogen sulfide and the long term effects it could have on people.

Civic Engagement Papers
For my civic engagement project I interviewed a family friend, Rocio Ureno, who identifies herself as
Chicana. I asked her multiple questions connected to the text as well as how she identified herself as
Chicana. I came to realize that a lot of her life experiences connected to my families presentation
about Pachucas breaking norms in society and dealing with patriarchy as well. When I interviewed her
one of the questions I asked her was why and how she identified herself as Chicana. She responded by
saying that she was born in the U.S. but her parents and some of her siblings were born in Mexico, so
Mexican culture is incorporated in her family. She says that although she was born here, her Mexican
roots are still with her. Being Chicana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rocio has dealt with patriarchy in her family, discrimination, and trying to break out of the norms for
Mexican American woman. She says despite there being obstacles and expectations to fulfill when
being Chicana, you just have to learn to balance both cultures and live the best of both worlds. I feel
lucky to be Chicana because I live my life as a proud American with Mexican roots. Rocio grew up
listening to Madonna and Vicente Fernandez. Although she was born here, she has not forgotten to
speak spanish. She speaks spanish at home to her children. Thats something I think is very important;
being able to communicate with your grandmother or older relatives that only speak spanish. Living in
the U.S. it s easy to lose your Mexican roots, especially because a lot of families now days are very
whitewashed . Embracing both sides is very important. Many Chicanos grow up with parents who
speak only english to them, so they completely forget how to speak spanish. After interviewing Rocio,
I ve seen her views on what it is to be a Chicana. I, myself could relate to certain things she was
telling me. I ve experienced some discriminative comments similar to the ones she s gotten. And, I too
have a father who isn t very open minded. It s not to that extent of her husbands, but I do know what it
feels like living with a very machismo type of father. Talking to her made me realize how important it
is to embrace both sides. I can see why she thinks

Advantages Of Single-Sex Schools
Arvin Jason T. Cabuay
Draft of the body
Thesis Statement: Single Sex secondary institutions prepares students academically, psychologically
and socially better than Coeducational schools.
2.0 What makes single sex secondary institutions prepare students better academically?
2.1 Same sex teaching
Teachers have various approaches to their students, students react to these approaches differently.
Male teachers use a teaching style that is effective with the male learning system and female teachers
use a teaching style that is appropriate for the learning system of female students. Leading to the result
of students learning effectively when they are being taught by a teacher of the same gender. Herbert
Grossman Suzanne Grossman (1994). In single sex schools, the teacher can focus on the learning
styles of each segender and use the styles to bring out the best academic performance in each student.
Lessons and activities could be made for a specific sex in mind.
2.1.1 According to Herbert Grossman and Suzanne Grossman (1994) Male teachers teaches in a direct
manner, such an example is that they re focussed on giving more lectures that is about the subject
being taught. They are more likely to criticize the wrong answers made by his students ... Show more

discussions often to make sure that the students understands the ideas she is teaching. They tend to

students if they have given the wrong answer. Female teachers are more available to students, they
make more eye contact and keeps a lesser distance from their students. Female teachers are more
sensitive to the students needs and feelings and are less critical and harsh. In grouping their students
they usually chose the members of the group. Herbert Grossman Suzanne Grossman

Reflective Essay On Group Diversity
Through my work in groups, I have had to adjust my feedback and leadership styles based on the
different cultures of my group members. Every organization has its own unique spoken and unspoken
rules that define the culture. Culture is often simply stated as, the way we work around here. Cultures
are formed and change through a variety of environmental events, leadership, and experiences (Weiss,
Tilin, Morgan, 2014, p. 153). I need more here maybe?
When bringing students together from different backgrounds and cultures, it is anticipated to run into
some cultural diversity. While these differences are expected to be met with professionalism in all
settings, according to Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2014) we have a tendency to interpret the behavior of
others through the lens of our own habits of thought or personal bias (pp. 191 192). Upon acceptance
into the radiography program, I had a preformed stereotype or prejudice of my classmates. Because it
is a prestigious and competitive program, I assumed each member would strive to go above and
beyond to produce optimum results. My personal cultural bias was believing everyone would set those
high goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. I have found in my classroom groups that some
members only do the bare minimum. They are sometimes unprepared and look toward others for
results. This impacted group communications because someone had to lead the group and bring more
insight when others were not contributing. It also made members do more than their fair share of
work. Some members had to take on more to make up for the lack of effort shown by others.
My group works together very well when providing feedback. We established that we all thrive from
constructive criticism and even welcome it. Feedback is important for all groups because knowing
what was good and bad about a performance or assignment is how you learn from your experiences.
By institutionalizing feedback strategies, power sharing becomes the responsibility of leaders as well
as members who provide each other with constructive opinions and supportive advice (Weiss, et al.,
2014, p. 141). So far my experiences in providing and receiving feedback within my group have been
mostly positive.

  • 2. Child Labor During The Second Industrial Revolution During the Second Industrial Revolution many people were getting jobs because of the growing industrialization. By the mid 1800 s child labor started to be a major issue. Child labor became a bigger issue once machines in factories replaced hand labor. Starting in Britain and spreading throughout Europe and North American many new business and factories started to open. When the factories started to open they needed more workers for cheap labor. During the Industrial Revolution child labor increased because of the need for cheap labor, the new inventions and technologies, and the lack of workers. During the Second American Revolution there was a major increase in the use of child labor. One of the main reasons child labor increased was because of cheap labor. On a typical day the children were forced to work from sunrise to sunset. They worked eleven to twelve hours per day, six days a week. Throughout the day they would get less than one hour for a break. On average they earned about a dollar every week. However; the use of these two methods plateaued as many people were concerned with the health of the infants and the mothers. The ultimate goal of delivery is the safety and protection of both the mother and the child. For a time, and still to this day, women turned to hospitals to ensure that safety. However, as a new wave of feminism has empowered mothers to take control of the natural birthing process, more and more women are reverting back to the home birth method. Though homebirth goes smoothly for most mothers, there is always the potential for complications that many mothers are not prepared to handle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the best choice should be the one that achieves the ultimate goal of the safe delivery. The statistics hold the records and can be paramount for a mother who wants to make the decision. The figures indicate that birth at home is risky when compared to birth in the hospital mostly where there are a delivery complications, and emergency services are needed. According to the Federal birth registers, out of a thousand babies born at home, 3.9 would likely to have birth defects mostly associated with delivery emergency and complications. On the other hand, the same statistics claim that for the hospital based deliveries, only 1.8 of one thousand babies faced birth related defects (Mathews, Curtin through Friday, 2015). The statists also point out that there is a high risk of deficiency when the baby is born at home than when born in the hospital environment. The defects as result of childbirth related complication are high in midwives attended birth than those delivery process carried out in hospital when there is an emergency. Statisticians document 7 defects per one thousand deliveries that have associated birth complications with deliveries attended by midwives. According to the statistics done in the years 2016 by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the home delivery has gained favors than hospital delivery in the recent time. This implies that as more birth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The convenience and accessibility of technology nowadays is very easy to access, therefore it is much easier for students to cheat. But, the outcome and long term of cheating will cause more harm and frustration than learning. Life of Brian built its story on a satirical parallel of the life of Jesus Christ; he is born the same day as the messiah and therefore gets mistaken for being him. While both of these films have religious meanings behind them, they in no way aim to be disrespectful, make fun or take away from the biblical stories. In Life of Brian his life was parallel to the life of Jesus. Many perceived this as an attack on religion but what the movie tried to convey and what the members of Monty Python tried to make clear was that Brian was in no means Jesus. While Life of Brian is more of a comedy, this film is more serious. It does not mock the Virgin Mary, but instead it makes us the viewers see this story in a different light. Growing up in a household that I would consider to be very religious, I never truly thought about the Virgin Mary. It was just a given that she gave birth to Jesus and joseph and her raised him. What Godard did with this film was to make us see that it is not as black and white as we always thought it to be. I liked that this film shows it in modern times because we are able to connect with it more and analyze in different ways. We never ever think about what Mary may have gone through and how she may have received the information that she was chosen to conceive Jesus. We don t think about Joseph and what could possible be going through his mind and being accepting of such situation. Godard in away makes us see this very well known story in a different light. The film contains nudity, which can be perceived as disrespectful, but he does in such a way that it adds to the movie not in a sexual way. Marie s nude body in a scene of the film tossing and turning painfully in bed, is less fetishized than aestheticized as the earthly representation of an aching soul s trajectory toward enlightenment. ... • 9. Absence Of His Father In Booker T Washington The name Booker T. Washington is often closely associated with prestige and great success as a leader. However, before he was the man we know of today he came from a life of struggle and constant strife. Before he became an image of freedom and intelligence he had to endure not only conflicts externally for the color of his skin, but internally as well as he struggled to live his life accordingly without the proper guidance of a father. The autobiography Up from Slavery gives us a new perspective as the narrative tells the story of his life from slavery to becoming one of the founders of Tuskegee Institute. Yet, a man with his reputation it would be virtually impossible to reach his stature without having some sort of guidance from mentors. Of course, throughout the narrative Washington acknowledges many people in his life who he considered to be a father figure , but due to the fact he was the son of a slave cook and a white man he never knew, there was never a true biological father son relationship in his life. This begs the question if the lack and absence of his own father shaped his own self perception, his relationship with others, as well as his leadership style? By analyzing excerpts and quotes within the literature piece one could conclude that the absence of his father is something Booker T. Washington has come to terms with thus not placing heavy burden on his life style and choices. For example, a specific quote in the text shows how Washington does not put ... The Ass, The Witch, And The Roman Empire The Ass, the Witch, and the Roman Empire: Roman Society in The Golden Ass Apuleius The Golden Ass is the oldest Latin novel from around the era of the Roman Empire to survive in its entirety. Because of this fact, it means that this novel is a source of great insight into a first hand account, albeit with fictional prose, of Roman society through the eyes of a well endowed male, Lucius, the narrator of the novel. Through his travels and his various encounters along the way, both as a man and an ass (not mutually exclusive) we get to experience the many aspects of Roman society and culture. Through the novel, we get to experience their societal attitudes concerning gender, sexuality, and violence. Although, The Golden Ass is written as a fictional prose, for example there s no historical evidence of bestial transformations in the Roman Empire, the base of the storytelling in which Apuleius writes from can be seen as a semi realistic representation and accounts of Roman society at its peak and give us insight into their views on sexuality and gender. In Roman society males dominated and had almost complete control over the entirety of their families. Everyone s life was on a string and the patriarch of the household held the scissors that could easily cut that string. Much to my dismay the story has no money in it and no one learns any lessons. In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery a small town holds a lottery to see who will be stoned to death by the whole town showing the reader how twisted the author is but also slightly showing the reality that in some places in the world such things to do happen and it is crazy to think it is considered normal by some. For instance, if this story were to be read to those select individuals in the world that still sacrifice people for good crops and such things then they would probably think of this story as dull and uninteresting because nothing is out of the ordinary to them. • 35. Anne Bradstreet In Reference To Her Children Essay In 1678, many of Anne Bradstreet s poems were published for public view. Throughout her poems Bradstreet tends to use symbolism to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. One of these poems is In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659. Three of the most significant symbols in this poem are the representation of her family as a flock of birds, the dangers in the world, and the expression of her feelings toward her children. Anne Bradstreet s representation of her family as a flock of birds symbolizes two different things. First, it symbolizes her connection to God and her desire to please Him. She represents herself and her family as birds because they were also creations of God; however, they are not human, therefore they do not sin. The bird family also symbolizes freedom. As her young grow up and spread their wings, they leave the nest to fly on their own. This represents one of the facts of life; children grow up and leave their parents homes to find their own way to make it in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a human world a fowler s snare might be fallings into the hands of trickery, robbery, or any other type of crime. Caught by net or birdlime might represent being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a hawk inflicted injury might symbolize being wounded or killed by an Indian or criminal. While certain aspects put some moral codes into question, genetic engineering is beneficial to humanity because will lead to a more understanding and capable society, can be used as a route to incredible possibilities, and it provides people with better opportunities. Many who attempt to take a stance on genetic engineering are unaware of what it actually is, and therefore are unable to make a proper argument. There have been several instances in which a debate has taken place over the topic, yet half of those who participated did not have a proper understanding of it. In a study taken place to measure the general biomedical and genetic literacy in the U.S and Europe, results showed that the US came in at the middle rank of 28th among the 34 countries studied (Source F). (Saintaquinas.com: 1) If mortal sin is a grave matter, what does the bible constitute as being a grave matter? One idea to look upon is breaking any one of the Ten Commandments, although some are not considered as grave as others. St. Paul offers us a list of such offences, which if committed will not allow the sinner to enter the Kingdom of God: The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians, 1995, 5:19 20: 824) It would be fair to assume that almost everyone is guilty of at least one of the above sins at some point in life; however, a being such as Lestat is on a different level of sin. Of course in between these levels of sin there are sins, which are considered to be of a graver nature, it is obviously a graver sin to murder than to be a drunk. From this it would be simpler to know that the latter would be considered a venial sin and not within the same gravity of a mortal sin and therefore the sinner can be saved. Music essentially became his life for awhile people who become good at anything, at some point dedicated every waking moment to it. All the previous steps in his life led up to this point. Chong Suk s early influence to work towards discipline allowed him the ability to stick through all those long hours at school. Weng could not have made it through that schooling without his father drilling it into him at an early age. His step with Ping gave him insight on how to play with others and deal with others. Not much is mention on the school other than that passage but, it seems reasonable to conclude that he would have to teach others in the school and learn other things from that teaching. All this allowed him to achieve a great deal in the music community. This is apparent by how even ping living in America had heard about him: I ve kept in touch with the Singapore music scene as part of my professional interest, and the name of the orchestra s principal flautist and dizi player, well known in Asian music circles, has not escaped my notice. It is these two pieces that I will be writing about. Returning to Doyle s quote, it is obvious while looking for differences. It s what makes each version stand out. The Pros And Cons Of Universal Health Care The notion of universal health care leads to a diminished flourishing society is one of the many unsubstantiated reasons why the United States cannot offer universal health care. Universal health care is a government funded national health care delivery system, which has succeeded in high income industrialized nations like the United Kingdom. While the United Kingdom ranked 9th in overall health care systems and the United States 17th, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) reported United States health care expenditures are exceedingly more than that of other high income countries (Bentley et al., 2017). This suggests that affordability is not the sole issue preventing the United States government from adopting a universal health care model. Despite their exceedingly high health care expenditures, the United States population suffers greater morbidity and mortality of preventable conditions than the United Kingdom population(Bentley et al., 2017).The UNITED STATES health care infrastructure is very unique compared to the United Kingdom, regardless of their similarities in health care delivery. When bringing students together from different backgrounds and cultures, it is anticipated to run into some cultural diversity. While these differences are expected to be met with professionalism in all settings, according to Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2014) we have a tendency to interpret the behavior of others through the lens of our own habits of thought or personal bias (pp. 191 192). Upon acceptance into the radiography program, I had a preformed stereotype or prejudice of my classmates. Because it is a prestigious and competitive program, I assumed each member would strive to go above and beyond to produce optimum results. My personal cultural bias was believing everyone would set those high goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. I have found in my classroom groups that some members only do the bare minimum. They are sometimes unprepared and look toward others for results. This impacted group communications because someone had to lead the group and bring more insight when others were not contributing. It also made members do more than their fair share of work. Some members had to take on more to make up for the lack of effort shown by others. My group works together very well when providing feedback. We established that we all thrive from constructive criticism and even welcome it. Feedback is important for all groups because knowing what was good and bad about a performance or assignment is how you learn from your experiences. By institutionalizing feedback strategies, power sharing becomes the responsibility of leaders as well as members who provide each other with constructive opinions and supportive advice (Weiss, et al., 2014, p. 141). So far my experiences in providing and receiving feedback within my group have been mostly positive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
