Charges Against The King Of Bohemia And Sherlock
Holmes
Charges against the King of Bohemia and Sherlock Holmes
In A Scandal in Bohemia by Arthur Conan Doyle, Irene Adler, a strong and
intelligent actress, accuses Sherlock Holmes and The King of Bohemia with
serious charges. Sherlock Holmes is a man who loathes being a part of society and
keeps to himself. He is a well known detective with intelligent skills to solve the
impossible cases. The King of Bohemia is Holmes client, and former lover of Irene
Adler. In an attempt to recover a photograph, which is crucial to The King of
Bohemia s reputation, Sherlock Holmes as well as him are both charged with stalking
and attempted robbery. In addition to this, as the London law enforcement officer, I

Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in my pay ransacked her house (16).
This proves that The King of Bohemia is guilty of conspiracy for the remuneration
of a crime. He is an associate with the perpetrators he hired in this illegal action.
In addition to this, The King of Bohemia is also culpability to stalking Irene Adler.
Stalking is defined as an act when one repeatedly follows and harasses another.
Evidently, The King of Bohemia stalks Irene Adler because he knew all of her
whereabouts, Is Briony Lodge, Serpentine Avenue, St. John s Wood (17). Yet once
again, The King of Bohemia does not directly take part in this felony. However, he
contracts men to pursue Irene Adler s every move, in order to detect the proper time
to take action. Once we diverted her luggage when she travelled. Twice she has been
waylaid, states the King of Bohemia (17). This verifies the men s attempt, associated
with The King, to extract her luggage while pursuing her on her travels in hope of
determining the photographs location. As a result of the men failing to retrieve the
photograph, he turned to Sherlock Holmes, who was one of the best detectives known.
Sherlock Holmes is a well known detective, deeply in which royalty has asked for
his assistance in retrieving a photograph from Irene Adler. He is known for the
excellence use of skills in solving crimes, of astute logical reasoning and of disguise.

Media And Non-Christian Media
At the beginning of the semester, one of the first topics discussed in this class was
Media to me is ______. Upon being asked this question, I had two answers to fill in
these blanks. One of these answers was a way for me to learn about the world and
the other was a form of entertainment. After taking this course, I have formulated
some new, more complex ideas on how to fill in these blanks.
Firstly, my approach to media has changed in that I now view media as simply
media and not the media. The media portrays unrealistic body image, people say.
This is only partially true; there are sources of media that portray body image in
ways that most would not be able to achieve (i.e. Playboy), but there are also sources
of media that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing up as a church kid, I was continually frustrated with my church s way of
dealing with media. Watch Veggie Tales, not Barney. Read The Chronicles of Narnia,
not Harry Potter. Watch Duck Dynasty, not Glee. Yada, yada, yada. The way my
church polarized media into Christian and non Christian media felt like a worldly
concept in itself. Which one of the ten commandments proclaimed, Thou shalt not
watch Glee? I felt as if keeping me away from different parts of media, media that
is a metaphor for the world God created, was a way of keeping me away from God.
I tried to watch Veggie Tales, but I could tell it was trying much too hard to force
Bible lessons down my throat. I tried to read The Chronicles of Narnia, but it simply
did not pique my interest. I did not try to watch Duck Dynasty, because, honestly,
reality TV is a waste of time, even if Neil Postman does believe junk TV should be
the epitome of TV s representation as an entertainment source. Despite my not
finding interest in these conventionally Christian sources of media, I grew closer to
God through secular media. Barney, while not specifically Christian, made me into
the polite young woman I am today, and so has allowed me to treat others with the
love that Jesus wants me to treat others with. Even though many Christians criticize
Harry Potter for supporting witchcraft, Harry Potter has taught me the importance of
friendship and familial love, along with the inevitability of death, concepts that are
covered throughout the Bible consistently. Glee is definitely a show that is
controversial throughout the Christian community, but by being one of the few
popular shows amongst teenagers to provide queer representation, it has taught me to
respect and appreciate others that are different from
Analysis Of Midaq Alley
Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood
within a literary piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order
to showcase the development of Hamida s rebellious character. The different
settings come together to deliver the important message of Hamida s literal and
metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development of her
rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings
about the idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows
that the setting plays a major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. As

The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity
(Mahfouz,1) indicating that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in
it is restricted to only the people of the alley showing how the topographical trap
also relates to the social entrapment that the alley is facing. With no reference to the
outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no one, not even Hamida, can
escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression propagated by
the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of
the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of
the glow. (Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows
the negative claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley.
The color brown is a color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and
positivity, respectively. However, the color black is more evident in the color
brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it was veiled with the
brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. The alley is
also described as having a distinctive life of its own (Mahfouz,1) proving once again
that the alley and the people within it are limited between the boundaries of the alley
and their life only consists of the people within the alley with no

Ten to fifteen percent of cases are fatal. Ten to fifteen percent of patients who recover
have permanent hearing loss, mental retardation, loss of limbs, brain damage, or
learning disability in ten to twenty percent of survivors. (WHO, 2004) The groups at
risk for this disease include the general population, infants and young children,
refugees, household contacts of case patients, military recruits, college freshmen who
live in dormitories, people exposed to firsthand and secondhand smoke, and
microbiologists who work with isolates of Neisseria Meningitidis. (CDC, 2004)
In 1887, the causative agent Neisseria Meningitidis, the meningococcus, was
identified. Because of its potential to cause epidemics, Neisseria Meningitidis is one
of the most important types. In 1805, when Meningococcal disease was first
described, an outbreak swept through Geneva, Switzerland. Twelve subtypes of
Neisseria Meningitidis have been identified. Four of them have been recognized to
cause epidemics. Those four are: A, B, C, and W135. The capabilities differ of the
pathogenicity, immunogenicity, and epidemic according to the serogroup. Thus it is
crucial to the identification of the serogroup responsible for epidemic containment.

Salem, massachusetts is a coastal city first settled by Europeans in 1626. The
village was a swift growing farming area with a flourishing trading and urban
area.As usual in history, as the population grew, so did the wants of the
townspeople. Many wanted separate churches, which prompted the idea that there
was somewhat of a divide between citizens. Granted, a separate church was
provided which caused a divide between classes in Salem and Salem Village was
created. The village was given the freedom to elect a committee for the new
church. And the divide of the one area and a second committee also spurred a
divide between families. The most significant of conflicts between households was
amid the Putnam family versus the Porter family. It all began when the Porter
family took control of the village committee from the Putnams on October 16,
1991. The Porters decision to not vote for a tax levy that would have resulted in a
pay raise of Reverend Parris, the Puritan minister of Salem, angered Thomas
Putnam as well as his followers. The minister, Samuel Parris felt that the refusal of
the tax levy was because of a conspiracy going on within the village. He believed
that the Devil had taken possession of some of the villagers. The enemies of the
Putnams were not only the Porters, but instead a long list: The Howes, Hobbs,
Townes, the Wildes, and also friends of the Porters, Daniel Andrews and Philip
English. Another enemy to the Putnams was John Proctor, a tavern keeper who

Keirsey Temperament Sorter ( Kts )
Each of us has different personalities. Beginning as an infant, all of us have no idea
who or what kind an individual we are. All of us see the world through the eyes of
our very own parents, guardians or other adults who tried to show and teach us
what really the world is. Those individuals show us their own ideas of what truly
are right and wrong, the good and bad. However, as we grow, our peers have much
influence over how we define ourselves. There could be times, an individual would
desire to fit in and belong to be like others. Likewise, in the society we belong to,
each of us has tried to learn and take in all of our experiences, and relationships with
other people. For this reason, Keirsey Temperament Sorter(KTS) is the... Show more

Keirsey s temperament theory, there are four temperament groups which describe
human behavior such as artisan, guardian, rational and idealist (Keirsey Temperament
Website, (n.d.)). These four temperaments groups can be further subdivided, often
referred to as Character Types (Keirsey Temperament Website, (n.d.)). Thus, there are
now four types of each group of artisan, guardian, rational, and idealist. Therefore, the
result of this test is a four letter abbreviation of the test taker s dominant personality
type. In which, these four letters can help an individual to view themselves and others

Guardians can also be described as a hardworking, helpful, dutiful, with a very strong

role in many tasks that are vital to human surviva,l like pollinating and effective

food supply in a variety of ways. Insect pollination is one of the primary beneficial
functions of insects on human development. Insect pollination as we all know, is the
process that enables reproduction and fertilization by the transfer of pollenperformed
by insects. Insects are some of the oldest pollinators of plants. Pollinating insects

Yet many of these diseases affect man s economy profoundly by spreading disease
not only among man, but also among his livestock. There are also the groups of
diseases known as arthropod borne zoonosis, which are primarily diseases of
animals transmitted to man by arthropods. For understanding the role of insects in
spreading disease, knowledge of the biology of the insects, as well as the biology of
the pathogens they transmit, is essential. Along with causing plagues throughout the
world, insects have played a major role in wars. Diseases transmitted to soldiers
from insects have had enormous effects on warfare in our history. For instance,
during the Vietnam War there were a larger number of casualties due to insect
transmitted diseases than deaths due to the fighting of war. In cases where such
losses of men and resources are one sided, the actions of insects have determined the
outcome of entire wars and thus have altered the course of history. Studying insects
has played an important role in the development and understanding of biology. Insect
s genetics, ecology, and mainly their life cycles have contributed a lot to biology. A

Summary Of 1984 By George Orwell s 1984
Throughout history, various countries have been under intense government ruling
where the citizens are given little freedom and lack privacy. During the Soviet Era,
Russian citizens experienced an oppressing lifestyle where their paranoid leader,
Joseph Stalin, enforced various laws which limited the liberties of the people. For
the people of Oceania in the novel 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother is their
manipulating leader who controls every aspect of their lives. This novel, written in
1949, was based on the futuristic idea that one day, people of this world would have
little to no freedom because the government would possess too much power.
Unfortunately, this strategy of regime has become a reality in some countries around
the world. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, there are clear connections between
the Ministry of Truth and the modern day government in countries including North
and South Korea.
The Ministry of Truth is one branch of the government that deals with propaganda in
1984. The other branches of the government are the Ministry of Love, the Ministry
of Peace, and the Ministry of Plenty. The purpose of the Ministry of Truth is for
employers to alter past news articles, books, etc. that have information which
contradicts current claims that the government makes. In 1984, the only three
countries are Oceania (where Winston lives), Eastasia, and Eurasia. As literary
analytic Graves explains, [i]f Oceania is at war with one of these, it has always been at

corporate scandals and cases of bad moral decisions, which has not only shaken the

This only happens because of their leaders who make such decisions which leads
towards increasing the profit margin and creating social mutually benefit (Godwin,
2006; Godwin, 2008; CBS, 2002; PBS, 2002).
Some business leaders are taking good moral decisions and the reason behind that
idea is that the core part of their business strategy is to create mutual benefit for
both wider society and business as well. The growing desire of top management is
to find out ways to create mutual benefit for both the organizations and the stake
holders but the public still believes that companies are greedy entities which make
decisions only in their self interest, even at the cost of greater public welfare. It is
the utmost obligation of the companies to discern the social issues while making the
decisions (Yashiro, Yoshida and Suzuki, no date; Godwin, 2006; Schwab, 1996;
Godwin, 2008; Werhane, 1998; Werhane, 2002; Heath, 2008; Mehalik and Gorman,

Morality is basically the individual s perception of what is good or right. The
human behaviors are determined by the environment. What so ever human is

2008).Moral Imagination is the mental ability to create or use ideas, images, discern
moral aspects implanted within a situation and develop a range of possible solutions
of the situation from a moral point of view (Godwin, 2008; Werhane, 1998; Werhane,

Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are self governing sensors that are widely
distributed in the respective environment. They are also referred as wireless sensor
and actuator networks (WSAN). They are used to observe physical or environmental
conditions, for example, temperature, sound, natural activities etc. They collect data
from each active node and pass it to the network to the centralized location. There are
many flaws occurred in wireless sensor network like user authentication as well as
data travel in the network is not so much secure. We are developing a technique in
which firstly we are allowing the user to pass the hard security authentication scheme
and then the user can join the network. Further we are also providing a secure file
transmission in network via public and private key concept. In this way we maintain
the secure and authenticated transmission of data in predescribed environment.

Essay About Jose San Martin
About Jose San Martin Jose San Martin was one of the Latin American liberators.
He was the leader of Argentina, Chile, and Peru as they revolted against the Spanish
rule in the area. San Martin was a military ruler. He was born in 1778 and died in
1850. Chile attained its independence in 1818, Argentina, 1812 and Peru, 1821
(Fernandez 14). Most of his tactics involved boldness and patience along with
military tactics. He lived at a time when most of the people in America who were
well educated were Creoles. In fact, some of them had gone to Europe to further
their studies. Despite being quite significant to the liberation of the Latin Americans,
he was not always known historically. In fact, some people today call him the quiet
Liberator because he did not always make himself known (Mayochi 2012)
Specifically, San Martin was a leader in Argentina. Argentina was the first country to
gain independence out of the three countries he led (Verley, 2009). The Spanish rule
was still in modern day Peru and Chile. San Martin and Bolivar met and agreed to
liberate the country. How they come to the agreement is not clear. What is well
known is that San Martin gave Bolivar his army for him to rule. Bolivar, with the
help of San Martin s army then brought independence to these countries. Out of these

of the admiration and respect can be seen from his burial and the monuments erected
in his honor. These memorials show his importance to the Argentinean people

have uplifted millions of their citizens every year from poverty. What is the impact
on the region, given the ascendance of China and India? There are at least two
possible outcomes: the rise of the two great Asian powers may challenge the US and
instill fear among the smaller countries in Asia, or, China and India will act as new
economic dynamos that will benefit the region even if US economic presence in the
region is to decline in the future.
This article explores the opportunities and obstacles to a

The Theme Of Power In King Lear
King Lear , a play by Shakespeare tells us how kingship and power or the loss of
power are expressed. Lear, king of Britain decides to retire and shares his kingdom
between his daughters; he later discovers what it is like to lose the power and
authority that came with responsibilities. In the play, power is related to flattery,
appearance and anger.
In act 1, scene 1, Lear says that Meantime [he] shall express [his] darker purpose
(1,1,36). The expression darker purpose tells us that there is a secret and a tragedy
that is about to be revealed. The power that Lear gives to Gonerill and Regan makes
them deceitful. He offers his kingdom to them but in return they must tell him how
much they love him which of you shall we say doth love us most, that we our
largest bounty may extend . (1, 1,56 57). Lear gives an opportunity for his daughters
to take advantage of him. Gonerill loves [him] ... Show more content on

Here, Lear goes mad and tells Gloucester that even a dog gets obeyed by people
who have to obey him and that appearance, authority and power all lead to
corruption. He compares himself to the poor when he says that only the poor
without power gets into justice and that the society always obeys power even if it is
not justified. Even though Lear loses his senses, Edgar still finds out that he has got a
point which seems to be reasonable.
To conclude, King Lear portrays power as the ability to manipulate and control
whatever one desires; power corrupts Gonerill, Regan and Edmund. When one has
all the power he desires, deceit is usually the path he takes. Lear appears as an actor
with no role to play and realizes this in scene 4, when he cries why, this is not Lear
and later says who is it that can tell me who I am? . Here, Lear seems to be stranded
in his role as King , unable to act in any other manner and powerless which finally
causes the downfall of his

Throughout Celtic culture and history music is an extremely important aspect of life.

One special holiday that is celebrated by the Scottish is called The Turn of the
Celtic Year and is the changing of fall to winter and is celebrated by the Scottish. In

to everyone s surprise the Scottish festival Samhuinn, which marks the turn of the
Celtic year and the beginning of winter. (Burnside, 2016). This shows that even
though the world may not know of certain holidays the Celts enjoyed celebrating at
almost any given moment. Saint Patrick s Day is a holiday that most of the world
knows and enjoys as well even though its origins come from Ireland. In an article
written by Patrick Hicks known as Shamrocks on a Prairie, it states, Whenever I

Southern Gothic Literature Analysis
Southern gothic literature is a genre that is set in the American south. Oxford
Dictionaries defines southern gothic literature as, Characterized by plots involving
violence or hidden trauma, eccentric and often psychologically troubled characters,
and an atmosphere of repression and decay. The genre is one of dark, complex
stories that are full of grotesque themes, unpredictable twists, and often include
characters that are somewhat delusional. It is often packed with mystery and
intrigue, and like many of the characters in these stories, it is not always what
meets the eye. Throughout this paper, we ll be exploring some stories of this
genre such as A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People , both by
Flannery O Connor, as well as William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily . Each one of
these stories share similar elements when it comes to their settings, themes, tones, and
characters, but they are also each different in their own respects. These stories each
include a female character who is first thought to represent the image of a proper,
southern woman, but later is shown to be much more than that. Miss Emily, the
Grandmother, and Joy Hulga each challenge the common stereotypes of the lives of
southern women and the values and beliefs of the South as a whole. Southern gothic
literature is an extremely interesting genre to study, and there is certainly nothing
about these stories that is dull.
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a great example of a true
Bojack Horseman
Bojack Horseman is an adult cartoon comedy that follows the life of the once been
sitcom star and titular character Bojack Horseman. The show opens up on a scene
from his old sitcom called Horsin Around before cutting to reality where Bojack is
at an interview while drunk. This entire bit sets up a main theme of the show, the
segregation of Hollywood glamor and reality. The interview only furthers this with
Bojack attributing the shows wide success to, People coming home after a long day
of life kicking them in the urethra to watch a show about good, likable, people who
love each other, where no matter what happens after thirty minutes everything is
going to turn out okay . In contrast to this when asked about his life he can not
answer the question. This scene tells us a lot about Bojack, but the show just piles on.

how he tries to ignore his world and reality by putting something protective between
him and the pool. However it could also be implied that he finds a way to rise above

Sexual Assault In Australia
This essay investigates whether sexual assault is an increasing problem for the young
people of Australia and whether sexual assault is being taught in schools around
Australia. This essay will also be explaining how the definition of sexual assault has
changed.
Sexual assault is any type of sexual contact or behaviour that occurs without the
explicit consent of the recipient. Falling under the definition of sexual assault are
sexual activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation,
incest, fondling, and attempted rape. (Unknown, 2016)

At a young age, such as ages 3 5, children are being taught about their feelings and
how to control them, exploring the concepts of safe and unsafe feelings and finding
early warning signs of abusive behaviour. They are briefly taught about their identity,
what a fair and unfair relationships is and how trust works. In the abuse segment,
they are taught privacy and the privacy of their body parts, where it s okay to be
touched and recognising abuse. By the time these children are in primary school they
are being taught about the concept of safely, they are reviewing early warning signs,
unsafe situations and understanding rights and responsibilities. One of the main
topics being taught is about the internet, mobile phones and media safety as that is
turning into a large problem for the young people of Australia. According to the Child
Protection Curriculum high schools are meant to be teaching students about
psychological pressure and manipulation, a matter of rights and responsibilities in
relationships and the power of relationships. They are also supposed to be teaching
them about identifying abuse and neglect, family violence, electronic media abuse
and protecting yourself and others. Which Victor Harbor High School, is yet to do,

Summary Of A Sick Day For Amos Mcgee

ENGL 3401 002

A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead A Sick Day for Amos McGee is
about a friendly zookeeper, who always goes to the zoo, on the number five bus
every day to make time for his friends, which are the elephant, the tortoise, the
penguin, the rhinoceros, and the owl. He plays chess with the elephant, runs races
with the tortoise, sits with the penguin, always gives his handkerchief to the
rhinoceros, and reads to the owl. Then, one day the zookeeper gets sick and he is
not able to go to the zoo to his friends. So, his friends left the zoo on the number
five bus and visited his best friend at home to make him feel better. A Sick day for
Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011 for the illustrations that were done
by Erin E. Stead, who is the wife of the author, Philip C. Stead. She made a speech
on her winning, saying A picture bookallows a child ownership of art even if it s just
for the two weeks they check it out of the library. That book is theirs. I m not sure
any other art for replicates that feeling. She is right, every picture book that a person
picks up, buys, or checks out is a piece of art because all picture book illustrations are
different and unique.
Illustrations in pictures are meant to make the use of the book for entertainment. The
illustrations that Erin C. Stead uses in her all of her books are woodblock or also
known as woodcut printing and then she draws on the top of the prints in pencil to
finish the illustration. This type of illustration was used in A Sick Day for Amos
McGee. Woodblock printing is a technique that is used to print text, images or
patterns. In an interview talking about the illustrations in her and her husband s
book, with MacMillan Children s on YouTube, the colors that are in the book are
stamped onto the page by a piece of wood. She carves each piece of wood into each
of the animals that are in the book. After she does that, she rolls the paint onto the
piece of wood and presses it to the paper. The colors that the illustrator s use was
blue, yellow, green, gray/black, orange, red, brown, and white. Red, yellow, and
oranges, are colors used to make the book suggest it has warmth, cheerfulness,

possible be put down. Another thing is people like to save animals for a living. In
the ASPCA commercial, featuring Sarah McLachlan she uses fear to appeal to
people s emotions to make them feel bad about the poor and upsetting puppies in
the ASPCA. Another thing they do in the commercial is make people feel bad or
make them upset by playing sad music in the background. Also they show how
injured the dogs/puppies are also how they are scared of things and how the dogs
/puppies just want to be loved by people. Although this may be true but some people

Dental 101: Tooth Types And Anatomy
Did you know that no other substance in your body is harder than your teeth? Teeth
are as mighty as they are tiny and much more complex than you think. While the
appearance of your smile typically steals the spotlight, in order to efficiently carry out
essential processes such as chewing and speech, careful attention must be paid to
other aspects of your teeth. From form to function, find out about key tooth features
that play a critical role in your oral health.
Tooth Anatomy
Starting from well below the gumline and up, every tooth is made up of these basic
parts:
Root
Serving as the anchor , it is buried deep into the sockets of the jawbone in order to
keep the tooth securely in place. Even though it is not visible to the naked eye, the

Similar to the root, it is centrally located, and it can cause individuals pain if
exposed due to a cavity, crack or fracture.
Dentin
Dentin is the porous layer that covers the pulp and sits below the outer tooth enamel.
Because it secretes a mineralized substance, and is soft and flexible, it provides tooth
enamel an added layer of support and helps prevent it from fracturing. If the enamel is
compromised and the dentin is exposed, however, it can cause tooth sensitivity.
Enamel
Enamel is the hard, white exterior covering of the tooth. Comprised of calcium
phosphate, its hardness serves to protect the sensitive inner parts of the tooth, but it is
still vulnerable to wear and tear, injury and tooth decay.
Although diet and hygiene play important roles in keeping your teeth in good shape,
crowding, bite and/or alignment issues due to genetics can also have a big impact on
the condition of your teeth.
Types Of Teeth
Adults normally have a set of 32 teeth that are built to serve different purposes. In
general, teeth are classified into one of four functional

Internal Assessment Question: How can a popular brand, such as PUMA, increase
sales?
Introduction
PUMA is a German Sportswear company that produces and sells sporting and
casual apparel to athletes and the average person all over the globe. PUMA is
technically a later version of the German sports footwear store, Dassler Brothers

helps build their market, audience, and gain sponsors for their brand. It also helps
build on strengths like branding and strengthening their management side. Once
PUMA gets ahead and uses things like technology, things will increase. Just the
internet alone is a powerful source. Technology can also improve the quality of their

Explain Two Ways To Cut The Cost Of A Dental Crown
Finding out that you need a dental crown can often be a rather deflating and
discouraging experience because of the cost that is often associated with that
procedure. Here are two ways to cut the cost of your dental crown.
Use A Discount Plan Membership Whenever Possible
An effective way to cut the cost of your dental crown is to use a discount plan
membership whenever possible. In most cases, a discount plan membership that
applies to dental work is typically quite inexpensive with you being able to get one
for a rather low annual fee. Once you have the discount plan membership, you can
get discounts that are substantial for most types of dental work, which is quite useful
if you are one of the many people who does not actually have dental

The Thing around your Neck
Essay: Analysis and acknowledgement
The main theme in the text The Thing around your Neck must be that outstanding
culture clash a lot of hope full immigrants in America are exposed to. Just from the
very beginning we experience that the main character Akunna from Nigeria has very
high thoughts of going to America. Her family is also very convinced that it is going
to be a huge thing for her, they are expecting her to send them presents and they tell
her; In a month, you will have a big car. Soon, a big house. But don t buy a gun like

Or some who guessed that you were African asked if you knew so and so from
Kenya or so and so from Zimbabwe because they thought Africa was a country where
everyone knew everyone else (p. 60 l. 16 21). So, when she finally meets a guy
who actually is aware of her background and roots, she is impressed. They become
a couple and Akunna loves him, but still there are a lot of things she can not get
used to and which confuse her. Her relationship to this guy really shows the
difference between living in Africa and America. She does simply not understand
how he just can take a year of his education to travel, because an education is a very
huge and necessary privilege in Africa, that you just can not take a year of from.
Akunna is also very loyal to her parents (frequently she sends them money, even
though she does not earn much), so the fact that her boyfriend has a very strange
relationship to his parents also confuses her. They also have very different ideas of
money, which finds expression in Akunna s negative reaction of getting presents.
Through the text we hear, with frequent intervals, about a stifling feeling Akunna gets
a tight think around her neck. But as the story passes this thing looses its grip. When
it almost is gone, Akunna gets a letter from her mother, in which it says that her
father has died. That situation makes Akunna make the decision to leave her
boyfriend and go home. That thing around her neck could symbolize

It has often been asserted that differences in the two candidates television personae
accounted in part for Kennedy s election victory. Some, however, dispute the
significance of the televised 1960 debates, suggesting that while visual cues
undoubtedly have the potential to influence voter perceptions, the nature and extent
of the influence remain a matter of speculation (Pendell and Vancil P.54 1988).
Furthermore; Keyton (1989) points out that Debates involving candidates for the
1988 presidential nomination carry a similar message. Results of a study of
college students revealed the finding that the winner of the 1988 debate was
predicted by perceptions of the candidate who projected the strongest personal
image, the greatest credibility, the most logical arguments, and the strongest
emotional appeals. Furthermore, voter preferences expressed after a first debate
were strong predictors of eventual candidate choice. In some political campaigns,
even the lack of debates can have significance. George Bush s successful 1988
presidential campaign employed debate avoidance, a reliance upon emotional
appeals and ridicule, and a de emphasis of issues. Both of the major U.S. political
parties have used such strategies, considered to be departures from ethical behavior
(Kelly 1990). Men and women react differently to the media analysis that generally
follows political debates. A study conducted at the University of Florida during the

In an era when harsh actuality of everyday life propels one to the realm of insanity,

Men and Women in British Literature Essay
The portrayal of men and women has varied in different stories throughout history.
Many portray women as beautiful, deceptive, manipulative, and smart, while men
are portrayed as being strong, masculine, and easily tricked. In many of the works
covered in the course Major British Writers to 1800, men are advised to refrain from
acting lustful, believed that it would harm their overall ability to succeed in whatever
the characters aimed to do. An example of this is seen in Sir Gawain and the Green
Knightwhen Gawain is deceived by Lady Bertilak in an effort to prove that Sir
Gawain is imperfect. The depictions of men and women are very similar in
Fantomina by Eliza Haywood, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and Phyllis and
Aristotle. .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Sir Gawain was nearly beheaded as was Aristotle in their stories, the result of
the deception by Fantomina was an unplanned pregnancy. I feel that Haywood
shows morality in this result because, unlike other works, the man is not punished
for being deceived, with the only real trouble of Beauplaisir being that he knows of
the existence of his child, which is an internal punishment for his actions. Beauplaisir
being unpunished and having his name remain untarnished while Fantomina was
sent to a monastery with her child is an example of how Haywood remained
consistent with the portrayal of other works in regards to male and female portrayal
while also distinguishing herself and her work from other works. The portrayal of
women in Milton s Paradise Lost is very different from the other works. While
women are often seen as being deceitful, devious, and smart, the depiction of Eve
is different as she is seen as being dumber and more inferior to Adam in all areas
besides beauty. This portrayal of Eve assisted in the progression of Paradise Lost
as Eve ate the forbidden apple after being persuaded by Satan to eat the apple. While
the incident caused Adam to also disobey God, it created a bond between Adam and
Eve that was greater than before the incident when they were considered pure. The
bond between Adam and Eve that is improved through the learning of new emotions,
trying new things, and the
Determining Individual Identity
Discovering and claiming our unique identity is a process of growth, change,
renewal, and regeneration throughout our lifetime. (51) Determining whom we are
as a person sounds like an easy thing to do, doesn t it? But it s easier said than
done. There are multiple factors that play a role on who we are as a person. Some
if these factors include the way we were raised, sex, our roots, the people we
surround us with, where we were born, etc. Although we can somewhat control what
factors molds us into we are, something that is uncontrollable is the perception others
have of us. The authors talk about the micro level. This is the level were, Individuals

It is important that we know how our identity is formed by these different levels
because it is what shapes us as human beings and predicts what kind of person we will
be. Structural system of inequality refers to, the objectification and dehumanization
of subordinated peoples. (55) All of this happens by doing the fallowing things; using
the values, characteristics, features of the dominant group as the supposedly neutral
standard against which all others should be evaluated, using term that distinguish the
subordinate from the dominant group, stereotyping, and exoticizing and
romanticizing. The point where all the features embodied in a person overlap. (59)
This is the definition for social location and it is important we understand why it s
important because as it says in page fifty nine, its where all the aspects of one s
identity meet, out experiences of our own complex identities is sometimes

discovery that may serve as a marker of an event is microspherules. A variety of
microsherules have been discovered in the PTB layers of the Meishan section (Xu

Mircospherules are similar to cosmic dust. Since a large amount of microspherules

Another potential big barrier for the economy is the moving in of large foreign
companies such as the clothing retailer H M, and the warehouse style membership

the labor force has gone through some big changes. The labor force has risen to a
high of 196,500 people in 2016 and participation in the job market has risen to 83%,
both of which could be attributed to the recently booming tourism industry (Iceland
Chamber of Commerce, 2017). A large portion of Iceland s domestic economy
comes from things like tourism, IT and communication, and other things that do not
really require packaging and handling, however, the fishing sector is very dependent
on effective packaging and handling. Valka is a company in Iceland that develops
and provides technology and equipment for the fishing industry. Their equipment can
cover the whole process of grading and batching, trimming, cutting and portioning,
and packaging the fish as well as use software to manage the entire order and
production process (Valka, 2017). Most of the country and its population is near
water, so sophisticated trucks and other transportation modes aren t really as
important for the domestic side of packaging and handling, but the farther away the
fish is shipped the more advanced and complex the solutions need to be. The
domestic channels are fairly simple due to the relatively small country and the even

Earth s climate and weather. One million Earth s can fit inside the sun. The sun
contains 99.86% of the mass in the solar system. Light from the sun takes 8 minutes
to reach the earth. Without the sun, life would not be possible. Here are some facts

The African American Struggle for Civil Rights in the 1960 s
In what ways, and for what reasons, did the African American struggle for civil rights
in the United States change between the early and late 1960s?
The civil rights movement was an influential movement that has been taking place in
America for many years. Victories during this time helped to raise hope for African
Americans during this influential movement. In the beginning of the movement there
was a focus on nonviolence, and the non violent techniques began to pay off in the
early 1960s. As the time progressed the struggle for African Americans during the
civil rights in the United States. Towards the ending of the period hope was lost
when major civil rights activists were assassinated. In the early 1960s non violent
techniques began to pay off with sit ins, marches and other forms of protest. For
example, on May 4th, 1961, 13 young activists traveled through the south known as
the freedom rides. This was nonviolent, and this was effective. Also, four African
American students in North Carolina started a Sit In in a segregated Woolworth s
lunch counter. The students were not served and workers refused to serves them.
The students stayed at the counter because they were allowed to stay there, but were
refused service. Many others in the south protested in similar ways, and 6 months
later they were finally served in the diner. These non violent sit in were effective
during this period. Nonviolence became less effective and groups like the Black
Panther Party came
Louis Riel s Last Words Before His Execution
I have nothing but my heart, I have given it long ago to my country. These are
Louis Riel s last words before his execution. Two themes that have been debated is
whether Louis Riel is a traitor or hero to the MГ©tis. There have been many
controversial figures throughout Canada s history, but Louis Riel is one of the
most controversial figure. His perspective on how he dealt with manner is still
debated today. A key aspect discussed today is why Riel is a hero to his people; the
MГ©tis. Louis Rielhad once recognized the turmoil the MГ©tis had to face, through
this Riel proved that one must take actions in order to achieve a person s right.
Firstly, Louis Riel is a savior due to his actions to defend the Roman Catholic faith
and French and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the government s insufficiency caused Riel to act accordingly. Earlier, it
was mentioned that the Canadian government was not authorized to take legal action
until December of 1869. Though this was clearly recognized by the government, they
sent surveyors in June of 1869 for settlers to live there. The government broke their
own laws, hence it proves that Riel, due to the government s flawed intentions, had to
enforce his rule, by stepping on the chains. Unit Two: The Development of Western
Canada, on page 36 highlights that in 1882, surveyors came to the MГ©tis peoples
North West Settlements to examine the land once more. The MГ©tis acted quickly
and sent 15 petitions to the Canadian government for the rights of their land, none of
which were answered. Once again, the government was incapable. The government
could have prevented all the troubles, but due to their insufficiency and flawed
system, they let the surveyors come onto the land. In addition to this, the government
had signed many treaties with the MГ©tis. But, the government, yet again, didn t
keep their word and didn t follow the laws of giving them what the treaties had
promised. To conclude, Riel was compelled to take arms. The lack of control, caused
the government to spend millions and ended in destruction. Flashback Canada on
page 196 stated, Some new evidence suggests that the Chief Justice in Manitoba at the
time of Riel s
Aspects Of Organized Crime
Organized crime (attributes)
Organized crime is criminal activity conduct by a group. These organizations have 8
attributes to help them achieve their goals. The first attribute is the absences of a
political goal. Secondly the group has a hierarchical from there is a boss, captain,
lieutenant, and members. Next these organizations have limited or exclusive
membership and only let in individuals known to the organization. Another attribute
of the organized crime is that it constitutes a unique subculture of crime. A different
attribute is that it perpetuates itself. Furthermore, organized crime is monopolistic
they control whatever crime they decided and if someone else competes against
them on their turf they will take care of the individual. In addition organizations
involved in organized crime will usually exhibit a willingness to use violence. The
final attribute is that organized crime organizations are governed by their own set of
rules and regulations. These attributes are what allow organized crime groups to be
self sustaining.
Prohibition
Prohibition was passed through the 18th amendment in 1919 and was designed to
improve and protect the lives of all Americans in the 20th century. The start of
prohibition came about when a group of Protestants and catholic women started to
complain about the evils of alcohol and how it can have a negative effect on
individuals. Its goal was to prohibit the manufacturing, consumption, and distribution
of intoxicating substances.

Culture Shock among International Students in the United States
Every year, thousands of international students attend colleges and universities in the
United States which requires them to adapt to a new environment. This often results
in a huge culture shock experience. Culture shock is defined as the outcome of stress
and tension resulting from contact with a new culture and the feelings of loss,
confusion and impotence, which is often due to loss of accustomed cultural cues and
social rules. This research focuses on the impact of culture and language, religion, and
personality on the adaptation of international students to the U.S. culture. It also
examines the adaptation process and culture shock experience of international
students in the United States by looking at similarities and differences among
international students with different cultural backgrounds and determines how stress,
social support, English proficiency, region/country of origin and length of residence
in the United States can affect the process of adaptation to a new culture.
According to Henya Kagan, most of the research on international students has
considered the affective behavioural and cognitive consequences of cross cultural
transition and has attempted to establish which individual, interpersonal, social,
structural and economic factors reliably predict adjustment. During the culture shock
experiences and adaptation
The Dad In Those Winter Sundays
Thesis: Parents are not chosen but given and the memories they leave behind never
leave. The Dad in Those Winter Sundays rises early in the cold morning to heat up
the house, while the father in My Papa s Waltz comes in smelling of whiskey, raging
with fury.
In Those Winter Sundays the Dad is a loving character who wakes up on the day he
can sleep in to warm the house for his family.
The father in My Papa s Waltz returns smelling of whiskey and takes out his anger
upon his family.
One comes bringing warmth and comfort, the other ushers in chaos and mayhem.
The Dad comes forth out of love, yet the father comes forth out of rage and vexation.
When either of the male parents appears the surrounding area changes to represent
their character.
Should Pit Bulls Be Band
Should pit bulls be band or should they stay. I think that they should be band
because a lot of time they will fight the other dog or even kill them. ya a lot of
times people will think that the pit bull is always the one that they are the ones
fighting on tv but a lot of times they are not but most of the time they are. I also think
that they are always attacking people in the article it said that a young.
Girl was attack by a pit bull and was really injured by the pit bull I wonder why
every one doesn t like. And I also think that the pit bull isn t the best pet to have
because if you have a young one and they go out side a lot and your pit bull might
attack them and in gear them or even kill them. A lot of people have them because
The Spiral Dynamics Model Of Ken Wilber
To write about my journey in consciousness makes me think very deeply. I am not
the type of person who sits and spend a few minutes to write a diary. Although I
believe that it will be the right thing to do for a student in the holistic program.
However, I believe this is the beauty of life that every moment I learn a new way to
make improvements in my personal life. These improvements will carry a direct
effect in my development in consciousness. Now how I can know if I had moved
from different stages in my life so far? To answer my question, I will use the Spiral
DynamicsModel of Ken Wilber.
The Spiral Dynamics Model is a system represented in levels and color code. Each
level presents the modes of thinking of the individuals in each level which it is
called memes. The memes development begins from the lowest level to the highest
level. Moreover, the color code of the Spiral Dynamic Model is drawn from an
Eastern system called the chakras. (Spiral Dynamics and Evolutionary
Consciousness, 2015)
I want to start writing about my journey finding any similarities beginning with the
first level of the spiral model and continue consequently with the next levels. The
level one has beige as a color code. It is called the archaic instinctual. The
characteristics of this level are food, water, warmth, sex, and safety has priority.
(Spiral Dynamics and Evolutionary Consciousness, 2015) Moreover, newborn
infants are at this level. So, this is my first stage in my journey. I do not
Neighbourhood Watch and Stolen

Through the non linear structure, this allows the audience the opportunity to see how
the characters present lives are intrinsically joined to their past. It also allows the
characters to be suspended in time so their lives seem linked even though none of the
characters were actually in the children s home at the same time. In Neighbourhood
Watch a non naturalistic performance style is used to allow the audience to make
sense and develop their understanding of the present characteristics of the characters.
Flashbacks of the main character are portrayed in non naturalistic form as we see
Anna s friend Catherine playing out the role of young Ana . This is evident in Act 1
Scene 10 and Act 1 Scene 16. All three scenes require the Catherine to transform into
a new character called Young Ana as we flashback into the past scenes of Ana s
imagination; this is evident in the texts stage directions ARTUR speaks to
CATHERINE now, as though she is the young ANA. The real ANA steps slightly
away to show the transformation of ANA into CATHERINE. However the scenes are
set within the setting of the present time, for instance, the text stating Ana s home
transforms into Hungary shows the non naturalistic setting of the scenes. Both
performance techniques are elements of the Non naturalistic performance style and
highly reflect the non naturalistic nature of the performance. Identify and discuss

The Twelve Tables Of The Roman Empire

Twelve Tables
April 26, 2017
The Twelve Tables Though the Twelve Tables are not widely known, they played a
large role in establishing the early Roman government. Not only were they the first
set of written laws in the Roman empire, the Twelve tables bound the Plebeian and
Patrician empires to the the same set of regulations. The Twelve Tables inspired other
nations at the time to form an organized system and regions around the world still use
the basic fundamentals of the laws.
The Twelve Tables were first introduced to the Roman empirein 455 BC. The
Plebeian and Patrician empires appointed a council of ten men to form a set of rules
that bound their people. The council was called the Decemviri. Together, the... Show

The fifth table says that any woman, whether or not maintained majority, should be
in the custody of a man at all times. If the father and husband are deceased she will
be in custody of her brother until remarried.
The sixth table only contains one law which states when a property owner sells his
land, the sell is binding and the land cannot be taken back by the original seller,
unless repurchased a year after the buyer removes his previous crops. On the same
tablet, table seven is found. Table seven states that if a tree from another land falls
on your land, you are able to take legal action and cut it down, or harvest the fruit
from the side of the tree that is on your property. If the fruit is not on your property,
however, the owner of the tree is able to put you in debt until the fruit is returned or
paid back for. Table seven also says that the roads should be paved by managers of
the city and any unpaved roads are legal to drive on without regulation.
Table eight gives rules on injury. If a man hits another free man and brakes his
bone, he owes the man 300 coins. If the bone of a slave is broken, he owes them 50
coins. If the injury affects the man for the rest of his life, the price doubles. It also
stated that if a man is killed at night while robbing a house, the man who killed him
will not be prosecuted. The third law of the table states that any man who purposely
destroys the food

Stalking is defined as an act when one repeatedly follows and harasses another. Evidently, The King of Bohemia stalks Irene Adler because he knew all of her whereabouts, Is Briony Lodge, Serpentine Avenue, St. John s Wood (17). Yet once again, The King of Bohemia does not directly take part in this felony. However, he contracts men to pursue Irene Adler s every move, in order to detect the proper time to take action. • 3. Media And Non-Christian Media At the beginning of the semester, one of the first topics discussed in this class was Media to me is ______. Upon being asked this question, I had two answers to fill in these blanks. One of these answers was a way for me to learn about the world and the other was a form of entertainment. After taking this course, I have formulated some new, more complex ideas on how to fill in these blanks. Firstly, my approach to media has changed in that I now view media as simply media and not the media. The media portrays unrealistic body image, people say. This is only partially true; there are sources of media that portray body image in ways that most would not be able to achieve (i.e. Playboy), but there are also sources of media that ... Read The Chronicles of Narnia, not Harry Potter. Watch Duck Dynasty, not Glee. Yada, yada, yada. The way my church polarized media into Christian and non Christian media felt like a worldly concept in itself. Which one of the ten commandments proclaimed, Thou shalt not watch Glee? I felt as if keeping me away from different parts of media, media that is a metaphor for the world God created, was a way of keeping me away from God. I tried to watch Veggie Tales, but I could tell it was trying much too hard to force Bible lessons down my throat. I tried to read The Chronicles of Narnia, but it simply did not pique my interest. I did not try to watch Duck Dynasty, because, honestly, reality TV is a waste of time, even if Neil Postman does believe junk TV should be the epitome of TV s representation as an entertainment source. Despite my not finding interest in these conventionally Christian sources of media, I grew closer to God through secular media. Barney, while not specifically Christian, made me into the polite young woman I am today, and so has allowed me to treat others with the love that Jesus wants me to treat others with. Even though many Christians criticize Harry Potter for supporting witchcraft, Harry Potter has taught me the importance of friendship and familial love, along with the inevitability of death, concepts that are covered throughout the Bible consistently. Glee is definitely a show that is controversial throughout the Christian community, but by being one of the few popular shows amongst teenagers to provide queer representation, it has taught me to respect and appreciate others that are different from
  • 4. Analysis Of Midaq Alley Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development of Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important message of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development of her rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity (Mahfouz,1) indicating that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in it is restricted to only the people of the alley showing how the topographical trap also relates to the social entrapment that the alley is facing. With no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no one, not even Hamida, can escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression propagated by the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow. (Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows the negative claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley. The color brown is a color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and positivity, respectively. However, the color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. The alley is also described as having a distinctive life of its own (Mahfouz,1) proving once again that the alley and the people within it are limited between the boundaries of the alley and their life only consists of the people within the alley with no

The village was a swift growing farming area with a flourishing trading and urban area.As usual in history, as the population grew, so did the wants of the townspeople. Many wanted separate churches, which prompted the idea that there was somewhat of a divide between citizens. Granted, a separate church was provided which caused a divide between classes in Salem and Salem Village was created. The village was given the freedom to elect a committee for the new church. And the divide of the one area and a second committee also spurred a divide between families. The most significant of conflicts between households was amid the Putnam family versus the Porter family. It all began when the Porter family took control of the village committee from the Putnams on October 16, 1991. The Porters decision to not vote for a tax levy that would have resulted in a pay raise of Reverend Parris, the Puritan minister of Salem, angered Thomas Putnam as well as his followers. The minister, Samuel Parris felt that the refusal of the tax levy was because of a conspiracy going on within the village. He believed that the Devil had taken possession of some of the villagers. The enemies of the Putnams were not only the Porters, but instead a long list: The Howes, Hobbs, Townes, the Wildes, and also friends of the Porters, Daniel Andrews and Philip English. Another enemy to the Putnams was John Proctor, a tavern keeper who

All of us see the world through the eyes of our very own parents, guardians or other adults who tried to show and teach us what really the world is. Those individuals show us their own ideas of what truly are right and wrong, the good and bad. However, as we grow, our peers have much influence over how we define ourselves. There could be times, an individual would desire to fit in and belong to be like others. Likewise, in the society we belong to, each of us has tried to learn and take in all of our experiences, and relationships with other people. • 10. Summary Of 1984 By George Orwell s 1984 Throughout history, various countries have been under intense government ruling where the citizens are given little freedom and lack privacy. During the Soviet Era, Russian citizens experienced an oppressing lifestyle where their paranoid leader, Joseph Stalin, enforced various laws which limited the liberties of the people. For the people of Oceania in the novel 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother is their manipulating leader who controls every aspect of their lives. This novel, written in 1949, was based on the futuristic idea that one day, people of this world would have little to no freedom because the government would possess too much power. Unfortunately, this strategy of regime has become a reality in some countries around the world. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, there are clear connections between the Ministry of Truth and the modern day government in countries including North and South Korea. The Ministry of Truth is one branch of the government that deals with propaganda in 1984. The other branches of the government are the Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Peace, and the Ministry of Plenty. The purpose of the Ministry of Truth is for employers to alter past news articles, books, etc. that have information which contradicts current claims that the government makes. In 1984, the only three countries are Oceania (where Winston lives), Eastasia, and Eurasia. As literary analytic Graves explains, [i]f Oceania is at war with one of these, it has always been at

This only happens because of their leaders who make such decisions which leads towards increasing the profit margin and creating social mutually benefit (Godwin, 2006; Godwin, 2008; CBS, 2002; PBS, 2002). Some business leaders are taking good moral decisions and the reason behind that idea is that the core part of their business strategy is to create mutual benefit for both wider society and business as well. The growing desire of top management is to find out ways to create mutual benefit for both the organizations and the stake holders but the public still believes that companies are greedy entities which make decisions only in their self interest, even at the cost of greater public welfare. It is the utmost obligation of the companies to discern the social issues while making the decisions (Yashiro, Yoshida and Suzuki, no date; Godwin, 2006; Schwab, 1996; Godwin, 2008; Werhane, 1998; Werhane, 2002; Heath, 2008; Mehalik and Gorman, 2006). They are used to observe physical or environmental conditions, for example, temperature, sound, natural activities etc. They collect data from each active node and pass it to the network to the centralized location. There are many flaws occurred in wireless sensor network like user authentication as well as data travel in the network is not so much secure. We are developing a technique in which firstly we are allowing the user to pass the hard security authentication scheme and then the user can join the network. He was the leader of Argentina, Chile, and Peru as they revolted against the Spanish rule in the area. San Martin was a military ruler. He was born in 1778 and died in 1850. Chile attained its independence in 1818, Argentina, 1812 and Peru, 1821 (Fernandez 14). Most of his tactics involved boldness and patience along with military tactics. He lived at a time when most of the people in America who were well educated were Creoles. In fact, some of them had gone to Europe to further their studies. Despite being quite significant to the liberation of the Latin Americans, he was not always known historically. In fact, some people today call him the quiet Liberator because he did not always make himself known (Mayochi 2012) Specifically, San Martin was a leader in Argentina. Argentina was the first country to gain independence out of the three countries he led (Verley, 2009). The Spanish rule was still in modern day Peru and Chile. San Martin and Bolivar met and agreed to liberate the country. How they come to the agreement is not clear. What is well known is that San Martin gave Bolivar his army for him to rule. Lear, king of Britain decides to retire and shares his kingdom between his daughters; he later discovers what it is like to lose the power and authority that came with responsibilities. In the play, power is related to flattery, appearance and anger. In act 1, scene 1, Lear says that Meantime [he] shall express [his] darker purpose (1,1,36). The expression darker purpose tells us that there is a secret and a tragedy that is about to be revealed. The power that Lear gives to Gonerill and Regan makes them deceitful. He offers his kingdom to them but in return they must tell him how much they love him which of you shall we say doth love us most, that we our largest bounty may extend . (1, 1,56 57). When one has all the power he desires, deceit is usually the path he takes. Lear appears as an actor with no role to play and realizes this in scene 4, when he cries why, this is not Lear and later says who is it that can tell me who I am? . Oxford Dictionaries defines southern gothic literature as, Characterized by plots involving violence or hidden trauma, eccentric and often psychologically troubled characters, and an atmosphere of repression and decay. The genre is one of dark, complex stories that are full of grotesque themes, unpredictable twists, and often include characters that are somewhat delusional. It is often packed with mystery and intrigue, and like many of the characters in these stories, it is not always what meets the eye. Throughout this paper, we ll be exploring some stories of this genre such as A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People , both by Flannery O Connor, as well as William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily . Each one of these stories share similar elements when it comes to their settings, themes, tones, and characters, but they are also each different in their own respects. These stories each include a female character who is first thought to represent the image of a proper, southern woman, but later is shown to be much more than that. Miss Emily, the Grandmother, and Joy Hulga each challenge the common stereotypes of the lives of southern women and the values and beliefs of the South as a whole. Southern gothic literature is an extremely interesting genre to study, and there is certainly nothing about these stories that is dull. William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a great example of a true

  • 32. Men and Women in British Literature Essay The portrayal of men and women has varied in different stories throughout history. Many portray women as beautiful, deceptive, manipulative, and smart, while men are portrayed as being strong, masculine, and easily tricked. In many of the works covered in the course Major British Writers to 1800, men are advised to refrain from acting lustful, believed that it would harm their overall ability to succeed in whatever the characters aimed to do. An example of this is seen in Sir Gawain and the Green Knightwhen Gawain is deceived by Lady Bertilak in an effort to prove that Sir Gawain is imperfect. The depictions of men and women are very similar in Fantomina by Eliza Haywood, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and Phyllis and Aristotle. .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Sir Gawain was nearly beheaded as was Aristotle in their stories, the result of the deception by Fantomina was an unplanned pregnancy. I feel that Haywood shows morality in this result because, unlike other works, the man is not punished for being deceived, with the only real trouble of Beauplaisir being that he knows of the existence of his child, which is an internal punishment for his actions. Beauplaisir being unpunished and having his name remain untarnished while Fantomina was sent to a monastery with her child is an example of how Haywood remained consistent with the portrayal of other works in regards to male and female portrayal while also distinguishing herself and her work from other works. The portrayal of women in Milton s Paradise Lost is very different from the other works. While women are often seen as being deceitful, devious, and smart, the depiction of Eve is different as she is seen as being dumber and more inferior to Adam in all areas besides beauty. This portrayal of Eve assisted in the progression of Paradise Lost as Eve ate the forbidden apple after being persuaded by Satan to eat the apple. Two themes that have been debated is whether Louis Riel is a traitor or hero to the MГ©tis. There have been many controversial figures throughout Canada s history, but Louis Riel is one of the most controversial figure. His perspective on how he dealt with manner is still debated today. A key aspect discussed today is why Riel is a hero to his people; the MГ©tis. Louis Rielhad once recognized the turmoil the MГ©tis had to face, through this Riel proved that one must take actions in order to achieve a person s right. Firstly, Louis Riel is a savior due to his actions to defend the Roman Catholic faith and French and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the government s insufficiency caused Riel to act accordingly. Earlier, it was mentioned that the Canadian government was not authorized to take legal action until December of 1869. Though this was clearly recognized by the government, they sent surveyors in June of 1869 for settlers to live there. The government broke their own laws, hence it proves that Riel, due to the government s flawed intentions, had to enforce his rule, by stepping on the chains. Unit Two: The Development of Western Canada, on page 36 highlights that in 1882, surveyors came to the MГ©tis peoples North West Settlements to examine the land once more. The MГ©tis acted quickly and sent 15 petitions to the Canadian government for the rights of their land, none of which were answered. Once again, the government was incapable. The government could have prevented all the troubles, but due to their insufficiency and flawed system, they let the surveyors come onto the land. In addition to this, the government had signed many treaties with the MГ©tis. But, the government, yet again, didn t keep their word and didn t follow the laws of giving them what the treaties had promised. To conclude, Riel was compelled to take arms. The lack of control, caused the government to spend millions and ended in destruction. Flashback Canada on page 196 stated, Some new evidence suggests that the Chief Justice in Manitoba at the time of Riel s

Next these organizations have limited or exclusive membership and only let in individuals known to the organization. Another attribute of the organized crime is that it constitutes a unique subculture of crime. A different attribute is that it perpetuates itself. Furthermore, organized crime is monopolistic they control whatever crime they decided and if someone else competes against them on their turf they will take care of the individual. In addition organizations involved in organized crime will usually exhibit a willingness to use violence. The final attribute is that organized crime organizations are governed by their own set of rules and regulations. These attributes are what allow organized crime groups to be self sustaining. Culture Shock Among International Students In The United... 1 Sina Khodaei Instructor: Mr. Jacob Wilson English 102 21th October 2017 Culture Shock among International Students in the United States Every year, thousands of international students attend colleges and universities in the United States which requires them to adapt to a new environment. This often results in a huge culture shock experience. Culture shock is defined as the outcome of stress and tension resulting from contact with a new culture and the feelings of loss, confusion and impotence, which is often due to loss of accustomed cultural cues and social rules. This research focuses on the impact of culture and language, religion, and personality on the adaptation of international students to the U.S. culture. It also examines the adaptation process and culture shock experience of international students in the United States by looking at similarities and differences among international students with different cultural backgrounds and determines how stress, social support, English proficiency, region/country of origin and length of residence in the United States can affect the process of adaptation to a new culture. According to Henya Kagan, most of the research on international students has considered the affective behavioural and cognitive consequences of cross cultural transition and has attempted to establish which individual, interpersonal, social, structural and economic factors reliably predict adjustment. During the culture shock experiences and adaptation

Although I believe that it will be the right thing to do for a student in the holistic program. However, I believe this is the beauty of life that every moment I learn a new way to make improvements in my personal life. These improvements will carry a direct effect in my development in consciousness. Now how I can know if I had moved from different stages in my life so far? To answer my question, I will use the Spiral DynamicsModel of Ken Wilber. The Spiral Dynamics Model is a system represented in levels and color code. Each level presents the modes of thinking of the individuals in each level which it is called memes. The memes development begins from the lowest level to the highest level. Moreover, the color code of the Spiral Dynamic Model is drawn from an Eastern system called the chakras. (Spiral Dynamics and Evolutionary Consciousness, 2015) I want to start writing about my journey finding any similarities beginning with the first level of the spiral model and continue consequently with the next levels. The level one has beige as a color code. It is called the archaic instinctual. The characteristics of this level are food, water, warmth, sex, and safety has priority. Through the non linear structure, this allows the audience the opportunity to see how the characters present lives are intrinsically joined to their past. It also allows the characters to be suspended in time so their lives seem linked even though none of the characters were actually in the children s home at the same time. In Neighbourhood Watch a non naturalistic performance style is used to allow the audience to make sense and develop their understanding of the present characteristics of the characters. Flashbacks of the main character are portrayed in non naturalistic form as we see Anna s friend Catherine playing out the role of young Ana . This is evident in Act 1 Scene 10 and Act 1 Scene 16. All three scenes require the Catherine to transform into a new character called Young Ana as we flashback into the past scenes of Ana s imagination; this is evident in the texts stage directions ARTUR speaks to CATHERINE now, as though she is the young ANA. The real ANA steps slightly away to show the transformation of ANA into CATHERINE. However the scenes are set within the setting of the present time, for instance, the text stating Ana s home transforms into Hungary shows the non naturalistic setting of the scenes. Both performance techniques are elements of the Non naturalistic performance style and highly reflect the non naturalistic nature of the performance. Identify and discuss THREE dramatic techniques used to convey the range of experiences

The Twelve Tables Of The Roman Empire Ruby Driscoll Hickey Twelve Tables April 26, 2017 The Twelve Tables Though the Twelve Tables are not widely known, they played a large role in establishing the early Roman government. Not only were they the first set of written laws in the Roman empire, the Twelve tables bound the Plebeian and Patrician empires to the the same set of regulations. The fifth table says that any woman, whether or not maintained majority, should be in the custody of a man at all times. If the father and husband are deceased she will be in custody of her brother until remarried. The sixth table only contains one law which states when a property owner sells his land, the sell is binding and the land cannot be taken back by the original seller, unless repurchased a year after the buyer removes his previous crops. On the same tablet, table seven is found. Table seven states that if a tree from another land falls on your land, you are able to take legal action and cut it down, or harvest the fruit from the side of the tree that is on your property. If the fruit is not on your property, however, the owner of the tree is able to put you in debt until the fruit is returned or paid back for. Table seven also says that the roads should be paved by managers of the city and any unpaved roads are legal to drive on without regulation. Table eight gives rules on injury. If a man hits another free man and brakes his bone, he owes the man 300 coins. If the bone of a slave is broken, he owes them 50 coins. If the injury affects the man for the rest of his life, the price doubles. It also stated that if a man is killed at night while robbing a house, the man who killed him will not be prosecuted. The third law of the table states that any man who purposely destroys the food
