This document summarizes the key findings of a study on automation readiness in the North American public refrigerated warehouse industry. The study found that the industry is dominated by a small number of large players and faces challenges from regulations and customer demands for efficiency. While automation attitudes are generally positive, cost justification is a major barrier. Automation has the highest potential to provide benefits, and thus be adopted, for new "greenfield" commodity storage and distribution facilities where it can improve storage density, reduce labor costs, and lower energy usage.
