Proud flesh is an excess growth of granulation tissue that develops over an open wound, most often in areas of excessive motion. It has a cauliflower-like appearance. Treatment involves injecting local anesthesia, cutting away the excess tissue to level it with the skin, drying and disinfecting the wound, and applying antibiotics and sodium chloride daily until it heals. Precautions like wearing gloves and not touching the wound directly are important to prevent infection.
