Initial Proposal
 Arron Halton
My Idea
my idea for my for my website is to create a very
unique way to showcase some of my work. I
want it to be different to most stereotypical
portfolio websites, not only to fit with the
brief given but to attract people to my
website and my work that is on there.
one reason my website would be different is
that I have a very unique style of design and I
would have to have a website to match the
style of work. I often use heavily manipulated
photographs as a design base and use bold
  minimalistic designs on other work.
Here is an example of my work.
My intentions
most design portfolios are quite basic and their only intention is
to display work of designers / photographers etc. Usually this
works really well as it is clear and has simple intentions that
  are met easily.

On mine I hope to make it much more creative and
interactive not only to conform with the brief I have been
given but to make visiting my website a better experience
this would ideally attract more unique visitors and could lead
onto other things such as jobs and sales.
How can I do this?
at the moment I have a few ideas of how I could achieve a
unique portfolio based website. After extensive research
about what consumers would want in this type of website,
these are the ideas I have gathered.
Tutorials or walkthroughs of how I achieve these effects.
Before / after images to see the differences.
Comments so people can get help with their work.
Ideas
As part of my research I used questionnaires and targeted
potential customers and clients such as national diploma,
  IT and graphic design students

“This website would be quite a good idea I think step by
step tutorials or ‘pause and play’ type video tutorials
would be a good to see. It would be good for website
visitors to see and also good for potential employers to see
  your working style”
  - (first year graphic design student ND)
I also asked a few friends from my previous
college course as they had similar interests
and skills to me the feedback I got from them
was again along the lines of tutorials.
This is one designer I
have liked and
followed the work of
for a long time. His
website and other
websites he has had
are all just to
showcase his work.
this is another designers website who has made just a normal
blog but has links to his photography pages where you can
buy his work, which is a cleaver why of doing it as he isn’t
trying to sell anything, just will if people ask.
This is a Photoshop tutorial website that I used to use, I often
used to do random tutorials to generally upgrade my skills and
found websites like this helpful.
I have shown some varied examples of a few
design portfolios and Photoshop tutorials, I
would like to combine the two, a lot of the
work I wont show how I have done but I will
show odd examples and possible have people
ask for certain tutorials, maybe even have
   downloadable guides and Photoshop layers
etc. These are things that have been brought
up whilst discussing ideas for this website
   project.
Target Audience
The target audience for my website could be a
huge range of people. It is basically anyone
interested in digital design. I think the main
majority would be college students between
16 and 20 as they would be learning basic
Photoshop skills and would be looking at
  other peoples work as examples
Design
I have been thinking about the design of my
website, as I mentioned before a lot of
websites are just one page full of block images
   displaying their work.
I don’t want mine this simple but I like using
minimalistic designs, so I want to combine the
two so it has enough information yet still looks
   minimal
I am going to use really cool dark colours with
maybe the odd highlight to have a really nice
professional and attractive looking website, as
it is one of my personal hate if a website is
unclear and a mash of colours, usually this
makes me leave the web page straight away.
And I want to attract people to my page not
   repel them away
This is the type of design I really like and would want my
website to look like, it has a really clean and easy to read
layout and easy to navigate content. I use this website a lot
and would use it over others by the way it looks without
content been a factor.
Thank you.
