stackconf 2021 | Reference Architecture for a Cloud Native Digital EnterpriseNETWAYS
In an era of digital transformation, (digital) enterprises are looking for fast innovation through effective collaboration to deliver more value to their customers with dramatically less effort. Digital enterprises enable companies of every sector to integrate, expose, and monetize their business capabilities by digitizing entire value chains. As a result, APIs have become the norm to expose integrated business functionalities to deliver an enhanced digital experience. Enterprises can start their digital transformation in greenfield or brownfield; in both cases, having a well-defined API-led integration architecture is important. Apart from integration and API platforms, these architectures should be able to provide agility, flexibility, and scalability. This session discusses a vendor/technology-neutral reference architecture for a cloud native digital enterprise to increase productivity by having agility, flexibility, and scalability through automation and services. The architecture discussed in this session can be mapped into different cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes and service mesh), different cloud providers (Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Google GCP), and infrastructure services to perform the implementation.
47Lining - Cloud Computing State of the Union 2014Mick Bass
2014 brings more maturity and alternatives than ever when it comes to providers of Cloud Computing services and software. With this increasing maturity, the variety of viable usage scenarios for cloud computing is exploding as well. However, all this variety can make it harder to choose the right direction, given your use case.
Mick Bass will provide an Overview of the “State of the Union” of Cloud Computing service and software providers, as well as common business and technology scenarios that drive adoption of Cloud Computing. We’ll cover public, private, hybrid, infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, automation, security, and key economic differences that come into play when deciding on the right alternative for you - and we’ll be sure to leave ample time for a fun and vibrant Q&A and discussion. Mick is CEO of 47Lining, a Boulder–based consultancy that provides Cloud Advisory and Development Services to enterprise customers, focused on the creation of cloud-native data platforms.

Commerce as a Service with Cloud Foundry (Cloud Foundry Summit 2014)VMware Tanzu
Keynote delivered by Rene Welches, Product Owner – PaaS Cloud Foundry at hybris.
[y]aaS is a multi tenant cloud platform which allows everyone to easily develop, extend and sell commerce services and apps. [y]aaS is based on a steadily growing micro service architecture running on Cloud Foundry as foundation. All services within [y]aaS are exposed through a consistent RESTful API. Besides the API, [y]aas also includes a Marketplace for hybris services as well as 3rd party services, an On Demand Store Front and a Back office application, all running on Cloud Foundry.
In this talk we will share our experience developing such an architecture and how Cloud Foundry helped us to streamline and speed up our development.

Nobl9 is a Service Level Objective Platform for measuring and monitoring reliability. We will look under the hood of an SLO platform using InfluxDB as part of the core architecture. We’ll talk about the project, the decisions we took, the challenges we faced, the mistakes we made, and the lessons learned.
Python is today the main language for data analysis, but one step remains slow and not optimized: going from the notebook to visualization in BI applications for business users. In almost all cases, you need to rewrite the code in the language of the BI application, it's slow and badly suited to an agile approach with successive iterations.
At ActiveViam, we wanted to accelerate this process and design a system to skip this step entirely. The goal of the project is to put the visualization directly inside the notebook, not only static graphs but something truly dynamic.
The result I'm presenting is a Python library with a community edition to visualize data continuously as we load them and work on the model in our Python notebook. It's useful to make you own analysis but mostly when you need to build dashboards that will be used by other services in the company. The back-and-forths with the business are much faster and once the content and layout of the dashboard is validated by the end users, going to production is also quick since it can be done in a few clicks. With this system, you don't just build a preview or a mock-up with Python but really the final analytic application.

In this presentation I do a review of the architecture of an AI application for IoT environments.
Since specific modeling and training aspects also have an impact on the final implementation of an enterprise ready solution, such solutions become very complex pretty soon.
The complexity of AI system for IoT is a big challenge – thus, I want to break this complexity down into particular views, which emphasize the individual but still interconnected aspects more clearly.

Timothy from StreamNative take you on a hands-on deep-dive on using Pulsar, Apache NiFi + Edge Flow Manager + MiniFi Agents with Apache MXNet, OpenVino, TensorFlow Lite, and other Deep Learning Libraries on the actual edge devices including Raspberry Pi with Movidius 2, Google Coral TPU and NVidia Jetson Nano. The team run deep learning models on the edge devices and send images, and capture real-time GPS and sensor data. Their low-coding IoT applications provide easy edge routing, transformation, data acquisition and alerting before they decide what data to stream real-time to their data space. These edge applications classify images and sensor readings real-time at the edge and then send Deep Learning results to Flink SQL and Apache NiFi for transformation, parsing, enrichment, querying, filtering and merging data to InfluxDB.

Why up-selling in travel is key to long-term revenue growth and loyaltyKevin May
Is the best time to present ancillary offers to guest really at the time of booking? Or should suppliers work harder to anticipate buying decisions to make real-time, personalized offers when consumers make a purchase?
Big Data is transforming into decision analytics that enables travel suppliers to increase revenue and drive lasting loyalty by making up-sell and cross-sell offers to customers throughout the trip life-cycle, from booking through the trip’s completion.
What must travel suppliers do to ready their organizations to generate, in real-time, the right offer at the right time to the right person?
Tnooz and Nor1 presented a FREE webinar to look at the evolution of up-selling, the impact of mobile and who will win the battle for the consumer’s loyalty and travel dollars.
The webinar will address these and other audience questions:
How can a hotel company enhance its initiatives to drive incremental revenue by being data-driven?
What is the key to knowing what a traveler would be willing to pay for on top of an existing booking?
What should be avoided in order to ensure a traveler doesn’t feel his privacy is in question?

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
