home every day even though they live just
behind the school. In the canteen, three
other students were also waiting. Very
soon, all the students left with their
parents. Lilian was alone. She became
worried. Why was my Mommy so late?
What if Mommy didn’t come?
Lilian then walked towards the gate. She looked
around and waited. A young woman at the bus stop
opposite the school saw her and came up to her. She
spoke gently and was very friendly.
“Are you waiting for someone to pick you up? Don’t
be scared. I’ll wait with you,” the woman told Lilian
kindly.
A few minutes passed and Lilian still did not see her
mother.
“What a pretty necklace you have. Can I take a look
at it?” the woman asked Lilian.
Before Lilian could say anything, the woman
snatched the gold necklace from her neck and ran
away quickly. Lilian began to cry. They she saw her
mother. She told her mother about the woman and
the necklace. Her mother reported the matter at
the nearby police station. The policeman advised
Lilian’s mother not to let Lilian wear jewelry to
school.
Lilian’s mother was glad that Lilian was not hurt.
She was sorry and promised Lilian she would be
punctual next time.
Questions:
1. Where does Lilian live?
2. How did Lilian feel when all the three other students left
with their parents?
3. Where did she go to continue waiting for her mother?

6. What did the policeman tell Lilian’s mother?
7. How did you think Lilian felt after the woman ran away
with her necklace?
