PREFACE
It is designed in such a way that student can grasp maximum knowledge and can get practical
exposure to the corporate world in minimum possible time. Business schools of today realize the
importance of practical knowledge over the theoretical base. The research report is necessary as
it provides an opportunity to the researcher in understanding the industry with special emphasis
on the development of skills in analyzing and interpreting practical problems through the
application of management theories and techniques. It is a new platform of learning through
practical experience.

Organizational structure
24
Any operating organization should have its own structure in order to operate efficiently. For an
organization, the organizational structure is a hierarchy of people and its functions.
The organizational structure of an organization tells you the character of an organization and the values it
believes in. Therefore, when you do business with an organization or getting into a new job in an
organization, it is always a great idea to get to know and understand their organizational structure.
Depending on the organizational values and the nature of the business, organizations tend to adopt one of
the following structures for management purposes.
Although the organization follows a particular structure, there can be departments and teams following
some other organizational structure in exceptional cases.
Sometimes, some organizations may follow a combination of the following organizational structures as
well.
OrganizationalStructure Types
25
Functional Structure
The organization is divided into segments based on the functions when managing. This
allows the organization to enhance the efficiencies of these functional groups. As an
example, take a software company.
Software engineers will only staff the entire software development department. This way,
management of this functional group becomes easy and effective.
Functional structures appear to be successful in large organization that produces high
volumes of products at low costs. Thelow cost can be achieved by such companies due to
the efficiencies within functional groups.
In addition to such advantages, there can be disadvantage from an organizational
perspective if the communication between the functional groups is not effective. In this
case, organization may find it difficult to achieve some organizational objectives at the
end.
DivisionalStructure
26
These types of organizations divide the functional areas of the organization to divisions.
Each division is equipped with its own resources in order to function independently. There
can be many bases to define divisions.
Divisions can be defined based on the geographical basis, products/services basis, or any
other measurement.
As an example, take a company such as General Electric’s. It can have microwave
division, turbine division, etc., and these divisions have their own marketing teams,
finance teams, etc. In that sense, each division can be considered as a micro-company with
the main organization.

Political Environment
Political environment is the outcome of a combination of various ideologies
advocated by different political parties.
Factors connected with the activities of the government are included in it, e.g., the
type of government (single-party government or multi-party government), the
attitude of the government towards different industries, progress in passing
different laws.
30
The platforms of the political parties, the tendency of the applicants for different
posts, efforts by various groups to get effective supportfor themselves, etc. Every
political party has a different attitude towards business community.
A living example of this can be seen during elections in the shape of fluctuations in
the share market. It is quite possible that the mere possibility of a particular
political party coming into power can make the prices of share rise sky high. It is
true conversely when the possibility of some other political party coming into
power may bring the price of shares really nose-diving.
It clearly shows that the attitude of the first political party towards business is
positive which gets reflected in the positive effect on the share market. On the
other hand, the negative attitude of the second political party towards business is
reflected in the nose-diving of prices of shares in the share market merely on the
possibility of its coming to power.
The following are some of the examples of the impact of the political environment
on business:
(i) In 1977, the Janata Government adopted a stringent attitude towards the
multinational companies. As a result of this attitude, the multinational companies
like the IBM and the Coca-Cola had to ignore India.
(ii) The new government encouraged the multinational companies for investment
in India. This led to the opening of the doors of the Indian market for the
multinational companies. Consequently, the Coca-Cola entered the Indian market
once again.
(iii) It was only because of the political interest that Hyderabad came to be known
as Cyber bad In other words; it came to be recognized as the centre of Information
Technology (IT). As a result, many IT companies came to be established there.
Some aspects of political environment:
 Present political system.
 Constitution of the country
 Profile of political leaders.
 Foreign policy of government
 Values and ideology of political parties
31
 Government intervention in business
Affect of Political environment on
Select company
 Various government schemes helps manufacturing units in order to
their growth and development
 MAKE IN INDIA helps many footwear companies in order to
compete the with foreign companies
 Many taxation benefits by government of India.
 Apart from other manufacturing industries the government also
provides export benefits to several of footwear companies in order to
capture international markets which act as increase in export earnings.
Economic environment
Economic environment consists of factors like gross domestic product, income
level at national level and per capita level, profit earning rate, productivity and
employment rate, industrial, fiscal policy of government etc.
The Economic environment factors have immediate and direct impact on the
businessman so businessman must scanthe economic environment and take
immediate actions to deal with these environments.
Economic environment may put constraints and may offer opportunities to the
businessman. The common factors that affect the Indian economic environment
are:
32
 Banking sectors reform has led to many attractive schemes of
Deposits and lending money. The banks are offering loans at very nominal
rate of interest and with minimum formalities to be completed
 Recent changes in fiscal policy of our country have encouraged NRIs and
foreign investors to invest in India.
 Lots of economic reforms are taking place in leasing and financial
institutions.
 Some aspects of economic environment:
1. Role of private and public sector
2. Rate of growth of GDP, GNP, per capita income.
3. Rate of savings and investment.
4. Balance of trade.
5. Balance of payment
6. Transportand communication system.
7. International debt.

ClientDependence
If a single client makes up more than half of your income, you are more of an
independent contractor than a business owner. Diversifying the client base is vital
to growing a business, but it can be difficult – especially when the client in
question pays well and on time. For many small businesses, having a client willing
to pay on time for a productor service is a godsend.
Unfortunately, this can result in a longer term handicap because, even if you have
employees and so on, you may be still acting as a sub-contractorfor a larger
33
business. This arrangement allows the client to avoid the risks of adding payroll in
an area where the work may dry up at any time. All of that risk is transferred from
the company to you and your employees. This can work out fine provided that your
main clients have a consistent need for your productor service. However, it is
generally better for a business to have a diversified client base to pick up the slack
when any single client quits paying.
Money Management
Having enough cash to cover the bills is a must for any business, but it is also a
must for every individual. Whether it is your business or your life, one will likely
emerge as a capital drain that puts pressure on the other. In order to head off this
problem, small businesses owners must either be heavily capitalized or be able to
pick up extra income to shore up cash reserves when needed. This is why many
small businesses start out with the founders working a job and building a business
simultaneously. While this split focus can make it difficult to grow a business,
running out of cashmakes growing a business impossible.
Money management becomes even more important when cash is flowing into the
business and to the owner. Although handling business accounting and taxes may
be within the capabilities of most business owners, professional help is usually a
good idea. The complexity of a business' books go up with each client and
employee, so getting an assist on the bookkeeping can prevent it from becoming a
reason not to expand..
Founder Dependence
If you get hit by a car, is your business still producing income the next day? A
business that can't operate without its founder is a business with a deadline. Many
businesses suffer from founder dependence, and this dependence is often caused by
the founder being unable to let go of certain decisions and responsibilities as the
business grows. Meeting this challenge is easy in theory –a business owner merely
34
has to give over more control to their employees or partners. In practice, however,
this is a big stumbling block for founders because it usually involves
compromising (at least initially) on the quality of work being done until the person
doing the work learns the ropes.
BalancingQualityand Growth
Even when a business is not founder dependent, there comes a time when the issue
from growth seems to match or even outweigh the benefits. Whether a service or a
product, at some point a business must sacrifice in order to scale – this may mean
not being able to personally manage every client relationship or not inspecting
every widget.
Socio-cultural environment
Business originates and develops in society. Therefore, the effect of various social
factors on business is but natural.
Social factors include customs, fashions, traditions, wishes, hopes, level of
education, population, standard of living of the people, religious values,
distribution of income, corruption, family set-up, consumers’ consciousness, etc.
All social factors influence business in some way or the other. Forexample, the
production of things should be according to the fashion. Similarly, religious values
also influence business. Forexample, some years ago the manufacturers of
Vanaspati Ghee used to import animal fat for manufacturing ghee.
On the basis of the strong public protests, the government cancelled the import
license of these manufacturers. Similarly, with the news that some popular cold
drinks contain pesticide elements, people protested against it and minimized the
consumption of these cold drinks.
35
Some aspects of social environment:
 Quality of life.
 Importance or place of women in workplace.
 Birth and death rates.
 Literacy rates.
 Consumption habits.
 Population
 Customs and habits of people.
Affect of social environment on
Select company
 Consumption of more sandals productthan the shoes.
 Consumption of sports footwear than the formal one.
 High in demand for kids footwear products.
 Customer emphasis more on looks of the productthan the durability of the
product.
 Increase in consumption of footwear products per person.
Technological Environment
Technological environment includes the discovery of new methods and
implements for the productionof goods and services. Technological changes make
36
available better methods of production and that makes the optimum use of the raw
material possible.
The technological changes offer both the possibilities and threats for business. In
case a company understands these things well in time it can achieve its objective,
otherwise the very existence of the company is threatened.
For example, it becomes a technological change for the automobile industry to
producevehicles which consume less petrol in view of the ever increasing prices of
petrol.
Only that company will be able to survive which can move with the changes taking
place in the environment. Therefore, the companies should constantly watch the
technological changes so that they are able to exploit the business opportunities.
The following are the examples of impact of technological environment on
business:
(i) With the advent of television in the market, the cinema and the radio industry
were adversely affected.
(ii) With the arrival of the Photostatmachines in the market, the carbonpaper
industry suffered a setback.
(iii) With the entry of synthetic thread in the market, the cotton cloth industry was
badly affected.
(iv) The digital watches have almost eliminated the market of the traditional
watches
37
The recent technological changes of Indian market are:
 Digital watches have killed the business of traditional watches
 Color T.V. has closed the business of black and white T.V.
 Artificial fabric has taken the market of traditional cottonand fabrics
 Shift in demand from vacuum tubes to transistors
 From typewriter to world processors
 Photo copier machines closed the carbonpaper business
 From steam locomotives its diesel and electric engines
Some aspects of Technological Environment:
1. Various innovations and inventions
2. Scientific improvements
3. Developments in IT sector
4. Import and export of technology
5. Technological advances in computers
38
Affect of Technological environment on
Select company
 Use of machine made fabrication of shoes and sandals rather than the
handmade
 Use of printing machines in order to print on REXINES and PU as earlier
printing was donewith the hands
 Use of new type machineries for sole making of footwear products
 Mixed type of production is adaptive than the labour technique of production
 Use of new techno in order to compete in market
Legal Environment
Legal environment constitutes the laws and various legislations passed in the
parliament. The businessman cannot overlook the legislation because he has to
perform all his business transactions within the framework of these legislations or
legal environment
Many Acts are passed from time to time in order to control and regulate business
activities.
39
The sum total of all these Acts creates legal regulatory environment. Acts are
mossypassed to regulate such business activities as sale-purchase, industrial
disputes, labour, regulating partnership business, regulating company business,
foreign exchange, etc.
In India, the following Acts have been passed in connection with the above
business activities:
(i) Sale of Goods Act(ii) Industrial Disputes Act (iii) Minimum Wages Act (iv)
Indian Partnership Act (v) Companies Act (vi) Trademark Act (vii) Essential
Commodities Act (viii) Consumer Protection Act (ix) Standards of Weights and
Measures Act. All these Acts influence business decisions.
The following are the examples of the impact of the legal regulatory environment
on business:
(i) By removing control on the capital market, a huge amount of capital was
collected by issuing various new issues in the primary market.
(ii) With introduction of relaxation in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Foreign
Exchange, many multinational companies entered the Indian market.
Consequently, there has been a tremendous increase in the foreign exchange
reserves in the country
Some aspects of legal environment are:
 Various laws and legislative acts.
 Legal policies related to licensing
 Legal policies related to foreign trade
 Statutory warnings essential to be printed on label
 Laws to keep a check on advertisements
 Foreign exchange regulation and management act

Chapter 2: Research Methodology
A STATEMENTOF THE PROBLEM is a claim of one or two sentences in
length that outlines the problem addressed by the study. The statement of the
problem should briefly address the question: What is the problem that the research
will address?[1]
When bringing together a team to achieve a particular purpose, provide them with
a problem statement. A good problem statement should answer these questions:
1. What is the problem? This should explain why the team is needed.
2. Who has the problem or who is the client/customer? This should explain
who needs the solution and who will decide the problem has been solved.
3. What form can the resolution be? What is the scopeand limitations (in time,
money, resources, and technologies) that can be used to solve the problem?
Does the client want a white paper? A web-tool? A new feature for a
product?A brainstorming on a topic?
The primary purposeof a problem statement is to focus the attention of the
problem solving team. However, if the focus of the problem is too narrow or the
scopeofthe solution too limited, the creativity and innovativeness of the solution
can be stifled.
In project management, the problem statement is part of the project charter. It lists
what's essential about the project and enables the project manager to identify the
project scopeas well as the project stakeholders.[2]
A research-worthyproblem statement is the description of an active challenge
(i.e. problem) faced by researchers and/or practitioners that does not have adequate
solutions available. The adequate solutions include the simplified theoretical
foundation and argumentation for a viable solution based on respected peer-
reviewed sources. The research-worthyproblem statement should address all six
questions: what, how, where, when, why, and who.
A problem statement is a statement that briefly sums up the problem for the event
42
Statement of the Problem
Intense segmentrivalry
The rivalry among existing competitors in the footware industry is quit high. Large
firms such as nike and adidas have grown immensely over the last two decades
their global reach has expanded all countries this is attributed to the emergences of
the internet and e-commerce. Online selling has enlarged the reach for these firms
allowing them to increase sales while minimizing operating costs. Mostindividual
in north america have access to high speed internet and online purchasing has
become the new trends for the twenty first century.
Threat of new entrants
Due to large sacale of both nike and adidas, these firm are able to control their costs
to retain performance advantages over emerging competitors in the industry. The
capial requirement for setting up an online shop is comparatively lower than
setting up a traditional bricks and mortar establishment. Therefore the online
footwear industry is highly abundant with hundreads of online merchants
Threar of substitute products
Consumer substitutes for athletic footwear products are low because there are little
alternatives to switch some sustitiutes for athlete footwear could be
boosts, therefore, there are no real substitutes for athletic footwear.
43
Objectives & Scope of Study
The research study tends to follow and achieve specific objectives.
The objectives of this particular study are:-
 To know the personal views of the people regarding various branded shoes.
 To study which branded shoes is mostly preferred by people as per thier
choices.
 comparison between various branded shoes.
 Find out factors influecing the people at the time of purchasing shoes such as
quality, durability, variety, price, and use in sport’s.
The study helped in managing the finances for profit society. The findings can be
generalized from regional level. The product offerings of different companies to
create awareness and to increase market share were studied. The awareness of
endowment policies in particular was also studied. This provided scope for
understanding the consumer preferences and retaining present customers while
adding new ones. The study helped to understand the customer expectations, the
potential customers’ requirement and customers’ problems and has helped to keep
customers highly satisfied.
44
Managerial usefulness of study
The study gives the information regarding the market competition, innovative
products offered by competitors, present demand of the products in the market etc.
The main usefulness of the study on the manageriallevelis:
 Market survey will help to know the prevailing market condition and also
help in framing the policies accordingly.
 The study will help the management to understand the customer mindset and
also estimating the present and future market demand for the products.
 It will help to estimate the level of awareness established in the market and
in deciding the extent of promotion required.
 It will help in finding out the customers’ expectations about the product and
also help to know the customer physiology.
45
Type of Researchand researchDesign
A research design is the “blue print” of the study. The design of a study defines the
study type (descriptive, co relational, semi-experimental experimental, review,
meta-analytic) and sub-type (e.g., descriptive-longitudinal case study), research
question, hypotheses, independent and dependent variables, experimental design,
and, if applicable, data collection methods and a statistical analysis plan. Research
design is the framework that has been created to seek answer to research questions.
Research design is the first and foremost step in methodology adopted and
undertaking research study. It is overall plan for the collection and analysis of data
in the research project. Thus it is an organized, systematic approachto be the
formulation, implementation and control of research project. In this project we
used descriptive research with the instrument of questionnaire. Descriptive
research is used to find out the perception of customer. There are various elements
used in descriptive research. Which are following as under:-
 Quality and price
 Demand and supply
 Purchasing power
 Branding
 Advertising
 Satisfaction level
 After sales service
46
Data CollectionMethods
Data collection is the process ofgathering and measuring information on variable
of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated
research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. The data collection
components of research is common to all field of study including physical and
social sciences, humanities, business, etc.
Actually data is of two kinds which are following-
a) Primary data: primary data are those, which are a fresh and for the first
time and this happen to be original character.
b) Secondary data: secondarydata are those data which have already been
collected by someone else and which have already been used as per requied.
There are basically two sources to collect secondarydata
a) internally: provided by company/organization
b) Externally: various publication of central, state and local government.
 Books, magazines, newspapers
 internet
After only keeping in mind one can think about what type of data has to be
collected during research as our research is concerned i have to gether primary
data for customer preference.
47
Limitations of Study
While surveying i encounter with some problems like-
 In some of the retail showroom it is not allowed to get the questionnaire
filled.
 Many of the respondents were not willing to fill the questionaire.
 Some people were not willing to respond and few of them who responded
were in hurry hence the active participation was lacking. Due to which i
faced difficulties in collecting information’s regarding our questionnaire.
 Another problem which i face was that people were hesitating to give information about
thier views freely.

CHAPTER-3
CONCEPTUAL DISCUSSION
Ques No.1 What is shoes?
Answer. An external covering for the human foot, usu. of leather and consisting of
a more or less stiff or heavy sole and a lighter upper part ending a short distance
above, at, or below the ankle. 2. A horseshoe or a similar plate for the hoof of some
other animal.
Ques No 2.why we should was branded shoes?
Answer. It is possible to spend few rupees to get a shoes but we will not be

circle. Supportive and cushioned shoes encourage the wearer to land on the heel of
the foot when walking or running, as the shoeabsorbs the impact. This alters the
natural step and posture (watch babies who have just learned how to walk to see
the difference!) and creates a different walking pattern.

few people buy it from local manufacturers also. so it is possible to buy for
everyone and every one can afford it .few people also don’tlike these brand like
Nike shoes puma shoes arc .so they buy it from outside the country because it suit
their status. Few people buy it for status and few people buy it for comfortable
also. They think it is more comfortable than any other.

  • 24. 24 Any operating organization should have its own structure in order to operate efficiently. For an organization, the organizational structure is a hierarchy of people and its functions. The organizational structure of an organization tells you the character of an organization and the values it believes in. Therefore, when you do business with an organization or getting into a new job in an organization, it is always a great idea to get to know and understand their organizational structure. Depending on the organizational values and the nature of the business, organizations tend to adopt one of the following structures for management purposes. Although the organization follows a particular structure, there can be departments and teams following some other organizational structure in exceptional cases. Sometimes, some organizations may follow a combination of the following organizational structures as well. OrganizationalStructure Types
  • 25. 25 Functional Structure The organization is divided into segments based on the functions when managing. This allows the organization to enhance the efficiencies of these functional groups. As an example, take a software company. Software engineers will only staff the entire software development department. This way, management of this functional group becomes easy and effective. Functional structures appear to be successful in large organization that produces high volumes of products at low costs. Thelow cost can be achieved by such companies due to the efficiencies within functional groups. In addition to such advantages, there can be disadvantage from an organizational perspective if the communication between the functional groups is not effective. In this case, organization may find it difficult to achieve some organizational objectives at the end. DivisionalStructure
  • 26. 26 These types of organizations divide the functional areas of the organization to divisions. Each division is equipped with its own resources in order to function independently. There can be many bases to define divisions. Divisions can be defined based on the geographical basis, products/services basis, or any other measurement. As an example, take a company such as General Electric’s. It can have microwave division, turbine division, etc., and these divisions have their own marketing teams, finance teams, etc. In that sense, each division can be considered as a micro-company with the main organization.
  • 28. 28 ‘S’ (strength) of ‘select’ Some are the strength of the SELECT shoe company:  Having good brand image among the customers of northern India  Having large market share on the sandals based footwear market  Having good market on kids and ladies footwear products  Use of new technology advancement  Great emphasis on R&D DEPARTMENT  Having a good channel of distribution  Use of mixed way of production than the labour intensive technique of production “W” weakness of ‘select’ Some are the weaknesses of the SELECT shoe company are:  Having less market share on shoe products  Having no market share on sports footwear products  Having less customers on age group of adults customers  Target only small market of the footwear industries  Financing problems  Outsourcing of their work leads to reduction in quality of products  Limited number of distributers  Their policies are highly rigid
  • 29. 29 “O” Opportunities ‘select’  Can make new type of footwear products based on transfer printing as it is a new concept  Try to hit schoolfootwear products as less footwear companies are engage in it.  Can use Rubber-based soles as they high in demand in current markets  Try to hit market of teenage customers “T” Threats of select Some are threats which may affect the company:  Local companies like Lancer shoe , today shoes etc. can affect the market of select  Need to diversify their range of products  Need to focus on teenage age group market Environmental Scanning Political Environment Political environment is the outcome of a combination of various ideologies advocated by different political parties. Factors connected with the activities of the government are included in it, e.g., the type of government (single-party government or multi-party government), the attitude of the government towards different industries, progress in passing different laws.
  • 30. 30 The platforms of the political parties, the tendency of the applicants for different posts, efforts by various groups to get effective supportfor themselves, etc. Every political party has a different attitude towards business community. A living example of this can be seen during elections in the shape of fluctuations in the share market. It is quite possible that the mere possibility of a particular political party coming into power can make the prices of share rise sky high. It is true conversely when the possibility of some other political party coming into power may bring the price of shares really nose-diving. It clearly shows that the attitude of the first political party towards business is positive which gets reflected in the positive effect on the share market. On the other hand, the negative attitude of the second political party towards business is reflected in the nose-diving of prices of shares in the share market merely on the possibility of its coming to power. The following are some of the examples of the impact of the political environment on business: (i) In 1977, the Janata Government adopted a stringent attitude towards the multinational companies. As a result of this attitude, the multinational companies like the IBM and the Coca-Cola had to ignore India. (ii) The new government encouraged the multinational companies for investment in India. This led to the opening of the doors of the Indian market for the multinational companies. Consequently, the Coca-Cola entered the Indian market once again. (iii) It was only because of the political interest that Hyderabad came to be known as Cyber bad In other words; it came to be recognized as the centre of Information Technology (IT). As a result, many IT companies came to be established there. Some aspects of political environment:  Present political system.  Constitution of the country  Profile of political leaders.  Foreign policy of government  Values and ideology of political parties
  • 31. 31  Government intervention in business Affect of Political environment on Select company  Various government schemes helps manufacturing units in order to their growth and development  MAKE IN INDIA helps many footwear companies in order to compete the with foreign companies  Many taxation benefits by government of India.  Apart from other manufacturing industries the government also provides export benefits to several of footwear companies in order to capture international markets which act as increase in export earnings. Economic environment Economic environment consists of factors like gross domestic product, income level at national level and per capita level, profit earning rate, productivity and employment rate, industrial, fiscal policy of government etc. The Economic environment factors have immediate and direct impact on the businessman so businessman must scanthe economic environment and take immediate actions to deal with these environments. Economic environment may put constraints and may offer opportunities to the businessman. The common factors that affect the Indian economic environment are:
  • 32. 32  Banking sectors reform has led to many attractive schemes of Deposits and lending money. The banks are offering loans at very nominal rate of interest and with minimum formalities to be completed  Recent changes in fiscal policy of our country have encouraged NRIs and foreign investors to invest in India.  Lots of economic reforms are taking place in leasing and financial institutions.  Some aspects of economic environment: 1. Role of private and public sector 2. Rate of growth of GDP, GNP, per capita income. 3. Rate of savings and investment. 4. Balance of trade. 5. Balance of payment 6. Transportand communication system. 7. International debt. Affect of economic environment on Select company ClientDependence If a single client makes up more than half of your income, you are more of an independent contractor than a business owner. Diversifying the client base is vital to growing a business, but it can be difficult – especially when the client in question pays well and on time. For many small businesses, having a client willing to pay on time for a productor service is a godsend. Unfortunately, this can result in a longer term handicap because, even if you have employees and so on, you may be still acting as a sub-contractorfor a larger
  • 33. 33 business. This arrangement allows the client to avoid the risks of adding payroll in an area where the work may dry up at any time. All of that risk is transferred from the company to you and your employees. This can work out fine provided that your main clients have a consistent need for your productor service. However, it is generally better for a business to have a diversified client base to pick up the slack when any single client quits paying. Money Management Having enough cash to cover the bills is a must for any business, but it is also a must for every individual. Whether it is your business or your life, one will likely emerge as a capital drain that puts pressure on the other. In order to head off this problem, small businesses owners must either be heavily capitalized or be able to pick up extra income to shore up cash reserves when needed. This is why many small businesses start out with the founders working a job and building a business simultaneously. While this split focus can make it difficult to grow a business, running out of cashmakes growing a business impossible. Money management becomes even more important when cash is flowing into the business and to the owner. Although handling business accounting and taxes may be within the capabilities of most business owners, professional help is usually a good idea. The complexity of a business' books go up with each client and employee, so getting an assist on the bookkeeping can prevent it from becoming a reason not to expand.. Founder Dependence If you get hit by a car, is your business still producing income the next day? A business that can't operate without its founder is a business with a deadline. Many businesses suffer from founder dependence, and this dependence is often caused by the founder being unable to let go of certain decisions and responsibilities as the business grows. Meeting this challenge is easy in theory –a business owner merely
  • 34. 34 has to give over more control to their employees or partners. In practice, however, this is a big stumbling block for founders because it usually involves compromising (at least initially) on the quality of work being done until the person doing the work learns the ropes. BalancingQualityand Growth Even when a business is not founder dependent, there comes a time when the issue from growth seems to match or even outweigh the benefits. Whether a service or a product, at some point a business must sacrifice in order to scale – this may mean not being able to personally manage every client relationship or not inspecting every widget. Socio-cultural environment Business originates and develops in society. Therefore, the effect of various social factors on business is but natural. Social factors include customs, fashions, traditions, wishes, hopes, level of education, population, standard of living of the people, religious values, distribution of income, corruption, family set-up, consumers’ consciousness, etc. All social factors influence business in some way or the other. Forexample, the production of things should be according to the fashion. Similarly, religious values also influence business. Forexample, some years ago the manufacturers of Vanaspati Ghee used to import animal fat for manufacturing ghee. On the basis of the strong public protests, the government cancelled the import license of these manufacturers. Similarly, with the news that some popular cold drinks contain pesticide elements, people protested against it and minimized the consumption of these cold drinks.
  • 35. 35 Some aspects of social environment:  Quality of life.  Importance or place of women in workplace.  Birth and death rates.  Literacy rates.  Consumption habits.  Population  Customs and habits of people. Affect of social environment on Select company  Consumption of more sandals productthan the shoes.  Consumption of sports footwear than the formal one.  High in demand for kids footwear products.  Customer emphasis more on looks of the productthan the durability of the product.  Increase in consumption of footwear products per person. Technological Environment Technological environment includes the discovery of new methods and implements for the productionof goods and services. Technological changes make
  • 36. 36 available better methods of production and that makes the optimum use of the raw material possible. The technological changes offer both the possibilities and threats for business. In case a company understands these things well in time it can achieve its objective, otherwise the very existence of the company is threatened. For example, it becomes a technological change for the automobile industry to producevehicles which consume less petrol in view of the ever increasing prices of petrol. Only that company will be able to survive which can move with the changes taking place in the environment. Therefore, the companies should constantly watch the technological changes so that they are able to exploit the business opportunities. The following are the examples of impact of technological environment on business: (i) With the advent of television in the market, the cinema and the radio industry were adversely affected. (ii) With the arrival of the Photostatmachines in the market, the carbonpaper industry suffered a setback. (iii) With the entry of synthetic thread in the market, the cotton cloth industry was badly affected. (iv) The digital watches have almost eliminated the market of the traditional watches
  • 37. 37 The recent technological changes of Indian market are:  Digital watches have killed the business of traditional watches  Color T.V. has closed the business of black and white T.V.  Artificial fabric has taken the market of traditional cottonand fabrics  Shift in demand from vacuum tubes to transistors  From typewriter to world processors  Photo copier machines closed the carbonpaper business  From steam locomotives its diesel and electric engines Some aspects of Technological Environment: 1. Various innovations and inventions 2. Scientific improvements 3. Developments in IT sector 4. Import and export of technology 5. Technological advances in computers
  • 38. 38 Affect of Technological environment on Select company  Use of machine made fabrication of shoes and sandals rather than the handmade  Use of printing machines in order to print on REXINES and PU as earlier printing was donewith the hands  Use of new type machineries for sole making of footwear products  Mixed type of production is adaptive than the labour technique of production  Use of new techno in order to compete in market Legal Environment Legal environment constitutes the laws and various legislations passed in the parliament. The businessman cannot overlook the legislation because he has to perform all his business transactions within the framework of these legislations or legal environment Many Acts are passed from time to time in order to control and regulate business activities.
  • 39. 39 The sum total of all these Acts creates legal regulatory environment. Acts are mossypassed to regulate such business activities as sale-purchase, industrial disputes, labour, regulating partnership business, regulating company business, foreign exchange, etc. In India, the following Acts have been passed in connection with the above business activities: (i) Sale of Goods Act(ii) Industrial Disputes Act (iii) Minimum Wages Act (iv) Indian Partnership Act (v) Companies Act (vi) Trademark Act (vii) Essential Commodities Act (viii) Consumer Protection Act (ix) Standards of Weights and Measures Act. All these Acts influence business decisions. The following are the examples of the impact of the legal regulatory environment on business: (i) By removing control on the capital market, a huge amount of capital was collected by issuing various new issues in the primary market. (ii) With introduction of relaxation in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Foreign Exchange, many multinational companies entered the Indian market. Consequently, there has been a tremendous increase in the foreign exchange reserves in the country Some aspects of legal environment are:  Various laws and legislative acts.  Legal policies related to licensing  Legal policies related to foreign trade  Statutory warnings essential to be printed on label  Laws to keep a check on advertisements  Foreign exchange regulation and management act

  • 41. 41 Chapter 2: Research Methodology A STATEMENTOF THE PROBLEM is a claim of one or two sentences in length that outlines the problem addressed by the study. The statement of the problem should briefly address the question: What is the problem that the research will address?[1] When bringing together a team to achieve a particular purpose, provide them with a problem statement. A good problem statement should answer these questions: 1. What is the problem? This should explain why the team is needed. 2. Who has the problem or who is the client/customer? This should explain who needs the solution and who will decide the problem has been solved. 3. What form can the resolution be? What is the scopeand limitations (in time, money, resources, and technologies) that can be used to solve the problem? Does the client want a white paper? A web-tool? A new feature for a product?A brainstorming on a topic? The primary purposeof a problem statement is to focus the attention of the problem solving team. However, if the focus of the problem is too narrow or the scopeofthe solution too limited, the creativity and innovativeness of the solution can be stifled. In project management, the problem statement is part of the project charter. It lists what's essential about the project and enables the project manager to identify the project scopeas well as the project stakeholders.[2] A research-worthyproblem statement is the description of an active challenge (i.e. problem) faced by researchers and/or practitioners that does not have adequate solutions available. The adequate solutions include the simplified theoretical foundation and argumentation for a viable solution based on respected peer- reviewed sources. The research-worthyproblem statement should address all six questions: what, how, where, when, why, and who. A problem statement is a statement that briefly sums up the problem for the event
  • 42. 42 Statement of the Problem Intense segmentrivalry The rivalry among existing competitors in the footware industry is quit high. Large firms such as nike and adidas have grown immensely over the last two decades their global reach has expanded all countries this is attributed to the emergences of the internet and e-commerce. The capial requirement for setting up an online shop is comparatively lower than setting up a traditional bricks and mortar establishment. Therefore the online footwear industry is highly abundant with hundreads of online merchants Threar of substitute products Consumer substitutes for athletic footwear products are low because there are little alternatives to switch some sustitiutes for athlete footwear could be boosts, therefore, there are no real substitutes for athletic footwear.
