Project Loon is a network of balloons that float in the stratosphere and are carried by wind currents to provide internet access to rural and remote areas. It was first tested in 2013 by launching 30 balloons over New Zealand's South Island. The balloons can be steered by rising or descending to altitudes with winds moving in the desired direction, bouncing signals between balloons and back to Earth to connect people. Advantages include easy and fast connectivity to increase internet usage and knowledge, while disadvantages are the costs of maintenance as balloons only operate for some days.
