It’s all about Teamwork
▪When you ride behind someone else, it gets 20 – 30 % easier
▪When you run a project, having the right people working on it makes
all the difference
Keep your team excited, interested, motivated and autonomous
An Incremental Approach
▪On a new route, you can’t rely on checking the map only once at the
start. You need to constantly check to make sure you’re heading in
the right direction.
▪When delivering a project, take a staged approach in your
implementation. Constantly:
▪ get end-user feedback
▪ check against the ultimate goal to make sure you’re always aiming towards it
All the gear, no idea
▪ No fancy kit or expensive bikes - Does it make it easier? Yes. - Did we go
around Iceland without it? Yes.
▪ FROM spreadsheets and code stored in folders on the network drives TO
Jira and Continuous Deployment using Octopus & Team City
Worth it? - Absolutely. Could we do it without them? - Absolutely.
A job well done always comes first, before the perfect tools

▪ Build your solution on a solid flexible framework, which allows for change

▪ Usage Analytics – understand your users – who, what, why?
Work Smarter
▪ The objective is to become smarter, learn about your own body and to make
better decisions about your training
▪ Build the product in a way that allows you to learn about your users and what
they want, and make sure you feed that into the product development

  • 3. It’s all about Teamwork ▪When you ride behind someone else, it gets 20 – 30 % easier ▪When you run a project, having the right people working on it makes all the difference Keep your team excited, interested, motivated and autonomous
  • 4. An Incremental Approach ▪On a new route, you can’t rely on checking the map only once at the start. You need to constantly check to make sure you’re heading in the right direction. ▪When delivering a project, take a staged approach in your implementation. Constantly: ▪ get end-user feedback ▪ check against the ultimate goal to make sure you’re always aiming towards it
  • 5. All the gear, no idea ▪ No fancy kit or expensive bikes - Does it make it easier? Yes. - Did we go around Iceland without it? Yes. ▪ FROM spreadsheets and code stored in folders on the network drives TO Jira and Continuous Deployment using Octopus & Team City Worth it? - Absolutely. Could we do it without them? - Absolutely. A job well done always comes first, before the perfect tools
  • 6. The ‘False Peak’ Effect Q: When will this hill finish?! A: We’re almost there, only a little left to go. Estimate the inestimable: ▪Break it down ▪Know the risks ▪Be agile and flexible ▪Don’t estimate Don’t fool yourself! Sometimes you only really know once you’re at the top of the hill.

Changing Gears ▪ Professional cyclists change gears all the time to be as efficient as possible ▪ If you know one thing at the start of a project, you know that the initial specifications will change ▪ Adapt to change – Agile approach ▪ Change your gears in preparation ▪ Build your solution on a solid flexible framework, which allows for change
  • 8. Smart Analytics Analytics ▪ Powermeter – measures power output, pedal torque, cadence, aerodynamic drag ▪ Usage Analytics – understand your users – who, what, why? Work Smarter ▪ The objective is to become smarter, learn about your own body and to make better decisions about your training ▪ Build the product in a way that allows you to learn about your users and what they want, and make sure you feed that into the product development
