Name of the teacher: Priya Raj. R
Name of the school: Govt.H.S.S.Punalur
Subject: Physics
Class: IX
Unit: Wave Motion
Topic: Transverse wave
Date: 10/08/2015
Duration: 35 min
CURRICULUM STATEMENT
Through inquiry, observation, discussion and knowledge acquisition, the learner develop the concept of wave motion
and transverse wave.
FOCUS
A. CONTENT RELATED
The learner acquires knowledge and understanding about the following terms, facts and concepts.
a. scientific terms: wave motion, transverse wave
b. Facts Wave produced in rope is transverse in nature.
Ripples formed in water are transverse in nature.
Concepts Wave transmits energy from one point of a medium to the other points without the actual translator
motion of the particles. They undergo only vibrations. The transmission of energy in this manner is a wave motion.
A transverse wave is a wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate r to
the direction of
propagation of wave.
B. PROCESS RELATED
The learner becomes able to acquire the following process skills.
Observe activities in group
Asks questions related to the event.
Communicate in groups.
Defines concept from teacher’s explanation.
2. SUPPORT SYSTEM
Chalk, blackboard, laptop, tray.
SOCIAL SYSTEM
Cooperative learning in small groups.
EXPECTED EFFECTS
a. Instructional: The students develop the idea of wave motion and transverse wave.
b. Nurturant: the student develop cooperation and learning skills.
PRE-REQUISITES
a. Cognitive domain: General knowledge about wave and vibration
b. Affective domain: Interest to know more about wave motion.
c. Psychomotor domain: Skill to do activities.

AN EXPLANATION
Teacher starts the class by asking the students whether they
have seen floating boats or sea.
Teacher prepares the students for inquiry procedure.
To prepare students to ask questions giving yes/no answers
regarding the floating event.
"Hold a rope straight, which was tied at the other end and a
ribbon tied around the rope. Then the rope is moved up and
down".
The teacher prompts the children to ask questions related to
this event. The students ask the following questions.
Is it a wave motion?
Is the direction of the wave from the holding and to the tied
end?
Does the ribbon undergo only up and down motion?
Does the ribbon changes its position?
Does the wave transmit energy through the rope?
Take some shallow tray with some water in it. Place some
thermo Cole in the water. When producing vibrations in
water ripples are formed by disturbances.
From the above activity, teacher gives the following
explanation.
Disturbance produced is changed into waves on the
surface of water and it starts from the point of disturbance.
Thermo coal both move up and down when the wave travels.
A wave is produced in the rope and it moves forward,
Students share their
experiences
Students asks questions
Students observe the
experiment.

but the ribbon move up and down it does not change its
position. Here the wave transmits energy from one point of a
medium to other points. Thus the students arrive at the
following concepts.
When transmits energy from one point of a medium to
other points without the actual translator motion of the
particles, they undergo only vibrations. The transmission of
energy in this manner is a wave motion.
A transverse wave is a wave in which the particles
of the medium vibrate perpendicular to the direction of
propagation of the wave.
The students reach the concept through inquiry. The students
ask appropriate questions and through these questions teacher
make the students arrive at the formulated concepts; the
students answer the following questions.
What is a wave motion?
What is the definition of transverse wave?
Teacher asks the students to find out more examples for
transverse waves.
The students developed the idea of wave motion and
transverse wave.
Developed a sense of inquiry.
Students note down the
equations.
