Aesthetic Sense in
Mathematics

Introduction:
The term “Aesthetics” is derived from Greek word:
Aesthetikos which means pertaining to sense of perception
Aesthetic sense as it is an emotional (joyful/painful) and insightful
experience from an interaction with anything.
Aims of Aesthetic Sense in Mathematics:
Developing the aesthetic sense for the proportion & order and
beauty
Developing aesthetic perception towards the thinking related
with mathematics
Developing an aesthetic relationship towards nature and
observe the beauty and symmetry in each and every
relationship
To develop abilities to observe, experience, evaluate and
create that which is beautiful.
The Impact of Aesthetic sense in Mathematics:
Aesthetic sense act as motivator
It provides a rewards for learners
It provides a meaningful learning
Aesthetic sense develops creativity
It makes the learner to interact with his world
It creates a joyful learning environment
It enhance the positive attitude towards learning mathematics
Aesthetic sense also support the child centered approaches
Steps to develop aesthetic sense in Mathematics:
1. The ability to perceive aesthetic qualities: The teacher should be
able to create good perception among the children, to appreciate
nature, wonders and beauty of the universal.
2. The ability to experience aesthetic qualities: Teacher should
make the students to understand the aesthetic qualities with
themselves and with the outer world.
3. Creative capabilities: it is essential to allow children to participate
in activities that will develop his/her creative abilities.
4. Aesthetic judgment /Evaluating aesthetic qualities: teacher
should evaluate the qualities of aesthetic sense among the students
and appreciate them.

Aesthetic Sense of Mathematics

  • 1. Aesthetic Sense in Mathematics Dr.G.Jaganmohana Rao Faculty of Education MITE, Kohima
  • 2. Introduction: The term “Aesthetics” is derived from Greek word: Aesthetikos which means pertaining to sense of perception Aesthetic sense as it is an emotional (joyful/painful) and insightful experience from an interaction with anything.
  • 3. Aims of Aesthetic Sense in Mathematics: Developing the aesthetic sense for the proportion & order and beauty Developing aesthetic perception towards the thinking related with mathematics Developing an aesthetic relationship towards nature and observe the beauty and symmetry in each and every relationship To develop abilities to observe, experience, evaluate and create that which is beautiful.

The Impact of Aesthetic sense in Mathematics: Aesthetic sense act as motivator It provides a rewards for learners It provides a meaningful learning Aesthetic sense develops creativity It makes the learner to interact with his world It creates a joyful learning environment It enhance the positive attitude towards learning mathematics Aesthetic sense also support the child centered approaches
  • 5. Steps to develop aesthetic sense in Mathematics: 1. The ability to perceive aesthetic qualities: The teacher should be able to create good perception among the children, to appreciate nature, wonders and beauty of the universal. 2. The ability to experience aesthetic qualities: Teacher should make the students to understand the aesthetic qualities with themselves and with the outer world. 3. Creative capabilities: it is essential to allow children to participate in activities that will develop his/her creative abilities. 4. Aesthetic judgment /Evaluating aesthetic qualities: teacher should evaluate the qualities of aesthetic sense among the students and appreciate them.
