The Soldier By Wilfred Owen
Participating in war often is romanticized and is seen as a heroic and honorable act. This romanticism,
of course, can only be put forth by one who has never experienced the inhumane devastation that each
battle each moment causes for the minds and in bodies of every soldier. The Soldier was written by
Rupert Brooke in 1914, just before World War One was about to begin, while Dulce et Decorum Est.
was written by Wilfred Owen in 1917, during which Word War One was being fought harshly. Due to
The Soldier being written before the War began, this poem depicts an idealized perception of war in
which the subject topically seems honored to die for his country, and content to know that the blood of
his country s men will be shed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rupert, at this point, has yet to experience the War and is able to suppress his fears with these
nationalistic viewpoints. He believes that he is ready to fight and that he is willing to die. Yet, there
seems to be something deeper in his poem when Rupert begins talking about himself as A dust whom
England bore, shaped, made aware,/ Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam (5 6). It is
evident, in these lines, that England is a metaphor for his mother who bore him and gave him her ways
to roam . It is in this transition that Rupert s unease becomes apparent. Rupert as an outsider of war at
this time, has allowed the reader to experience a romanticized sense of war, but the unease he feels has
become evident throughout this poem. He has not experienced war first hand, but he is absolutely
aware that the pain of war is not diminished when one sacrifices himself for his country. Rupert is
afraid to die. He talks of England as his mother and shows a sense of dread to leave behind dust that
his mother put so much love into. A quote from Stallworthy s biography of Rupert leaves an eerie
feeling behind. ...I wonder whether some of the unease that over the years has crept into readers
response may not be related to a lack of conviction on the part of its author as he tried to convince
himself of the existence of an afterlife in which he did not believe (193).

High Renaissance Art
Three fascinating artists known as Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo marked the stylistic period
of the Italy 1500 to 1600. These three men inspired the high Renaissance. Florence and Rome hosted
the leading artist for that century. I will like to describe a painting of Raphael that caught my attention
from reading the textbook; it is called the Marriage of the Virgin. In this painting the artists used linear
perspective to create the illusion of space in the far back. He placed the vanishing point of the one
point perspective in the doorway of the beautiful painted round house that is symmetrical on both side.
The artists created the plaster in different sizes of rectangular shapes in red and cream colors to
emphasize on the importance of linear perspective in the painting. If the painting was divided in two
parts, the viewer will see that it is symmetric on both sides. There are thirteen figures on each side of
the painting with the high priest being the middleman placed in the center of the human drama. He
also put the figures in groups that relate to the part they each play in the artwork, this is known as a
unified figure group in high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the back of the portrait he included a beautiful landscape by incorporating chiaroscuro and
atmospheric perspective. The figure itself is a triangular shape. The artist used different shades of
colors to achieve the smoky look he wanted. The emotion is maintained and well balance; this can be
seen in the way she seated quietly and the gentle smile on the figure. The figure also gazes directly at
the viewer to encage with them. In many cultures women are not allowed to look in the eyes of men
because men are perceive to be dominant and superior over females. During the renaissance people
dictated that women should not do the same, however Leonardo was able to capture the personality of
this woman through her

The Discovery Of The Indian Caribbean Museum Of Trinidad...
Introduction On Saturday 14th January 2017, I visited the Indian Caribbean Museum. The museum is
situated at #10 Swami Avenue, Don Miguel, San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. It is located nearby the
temple in the sea at Waterloo. It is also stationed directly opposite the Waterloo Hindu Temple. The
museum is a small flat building which consists of ancient artifacts. The museum s large collection has
been acquired through field trips by managers of the institution. The collection of artifacts comprises
of old items such as musical instruments, agricultural objects, cooking utensils, pieces of clothing,
ancient photographs and historical books. These different artifacts are separated by glass cases and are
properly labeled. Some artifacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dr. Kumar Mahabir, the curator, Saisbhan Jokhan, the vice curator, Ann Marie Ramhit, and twelve
other committee members are the managers of the museum. The last Saturday of each month the
committee members get together for a meeting. At this meeting the curator would report to the
committee. The committee makes decisions and decides on how to improve and develop the museum
in the best way possible. Also on the first Wednesday of each month the curator reports to the
executive of the Maha Sabha. The museums superior collections comprises of unique resources and
artifacts of immigrants who settled in Trinidad and Tobago. It includes cooking utensils, historical and
religious books, ancient photographs, musical instruments, agricultural objects, jewelry, clothing and
forms of transportation (bicycle).
Discussion of Selected Artifacts Three types of artifacts that interested me the most at the museum are
the agricultural objects, the cooking utensils and clothing. The agriculture objects such as: cutlass,
pick axe, axe grinding stone and grass knife (hassawa). The grinding stone also known as the Jata in
hindi was used by each plantation. Every

Critical Reflection On Practicing Public Health Leadership...
CRITICAL REFLECTION ON PRACTICING PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP COURSE
I have been involve in different leadership roles during my professional and personal experience but
after attending this course of practicing leadership and public health course, I have enhanced my skills
in various perspective which would be helpful for my personal and professional growth. The content
of the course provided me the opportunity to explore more about my personal and professional
strengths and weakness with the perspective of leadership. I have realized the importance of the strong
leadership in all aspects of the life when I had written my biopic for this course required by the
facilitators. It was great experience to reflect on my own achievements and accomplishment by
interlinking with new learned skills and education.
On the very first day, I was overwhelmed and excited because I was going to learn from two great
mentors. I was also excited to share my previous practicing leadership skills with other group
members although I have greatly sharpened my leadership skills according to the framework provided
by the facilitators on the first day. I had been provided different opportunities to demonstrate the
leadership skills in my professional and personal life and I fulfilled the criteria according to that
situation however, this course highlighted some gaps, which needs to be addressed in my future
implications.
According to enneagram, I fall in Type 2 leaders, who lead through motivation

Mise-en-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite Essay
Mise en Scene in Napoleon Dynamite
In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is
quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the
primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the
film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This
effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order to
bring out Napoleon s persona in ways other than simply guessing who he really is. Rather, these
techniques explicitly imply certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the ...

Additionally, considerable portion of the significant sound in the film occurs in the music. The most
blatant effect of the music is the cheesy MIDI arrangements. These outdated compositions portray the
tackiness of Napoleon; he and the music are clearly out of style. One of the crudest examples of this is
when Napoleon buys his suit; the muzak in the background is as unbearably corny as Napoleon s taste
in clothing. Albeit music is a fundamental factor in Napoleon Dynamite, it is not the only element of
sound that is relevant.
The sound effects in the film also give clues as to what kind of person Napoleon really is. One
supporting example is when he is eating tots in the middle of class. The unnecessarily loud crunching
noise portrays his manifest lack of craftiness and style. There was one audio technique, however, that
was extremely puzzling. In every scene inside a house, there is a very subtle background of birds
chirping. This emphasizes the fact that Napoleon lives a rural community, rather than a busy suburb or
city setting. This sound is extremely understated, however, and is obviously intended to be a
subconscious feature to the viewer.
Napoleon uses some of his own characteristic sounds in the film to facilitate who he is. As a matter of
fact, the first sound he makes in the movie is long, depressed sigh when he sees the school bus
approaching. This

Compare And Contrast The Massachusetts Bay Colonies And...
Making empires was not the primary goal of the English colonies. The true goal was to build unique
and successful colonies. Those that did were rewarded. Massachusetts Bay and Chesapeake colonies
were both similar and different. The first colony to have been founded in the Chesapeake area was
Virginia, the first three ships sent out were Discovery, Godspeed, and Susan Constant. The first
attempt never quite flourished as it would with John Rolfe. Disease from water contamination caused
most of the deaths. John Winthrop founded the Massachusetts Bay colony and did not exactly make
the grand City on the Hill he had hoped to make. Both colonies had their undoubtable strengths and
weaknesses, but it is important to connect these distinct colonies for what they would later become
part of, a nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the original Puritans and Puritan Separatists escaped their home country for religious reasons.
The Puritans who came from Anglia, England to ultimately settle in Massachusetts Bay left because
they felt that the Church of England had not separated itself enough from its Catholic roots. One of the
Chesapeake colonies, ironically enough, was mainly founded on the religious persecution the people
of Massachusetts Bay had imposed upon them. Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams and
later became home to Anne Hutchinson, both showing motions of antinomianism. Maryland was
another colony in the Chesapeake region that was founded on religious purposes. The Quakers in
England were badly treated and often killed and martyred for their cause. Maryland became site of a
major Quaker population after their previous migration from England to Holland. The way all of these
colonies were founded seemed to revolve around a common need for a better religious

The Dating Of Pregnacy With Ultrasonography
DATING OF PREGNACY WITH ULTRASONOGRAPHY
FIRST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY (0 TO 13 WEEKS)
Parameters used for evaluating gestational age are:
1. Gestational sac measurement : Mean sac diameter (MSD) is measured using the sum of three
orthogonal dimensions of the fluid sac wall interface divided by three. Gestational sac is first
visualized by transabdominal sonography at 5 weeks. MSD increases at the rate of 1mm/day in early
gestation. At 5.5 weeks a yolk sac appears. At six weeks an embryo first appears adjacent to the yolk
sac.(11)
2. Crown Rump length (CRL) : Once the embryo can be visualized, the measurement of choice for
estimation of menstrual age becomes the crown rump length. Using transvaginal ultrasonography
(TVS), embryo can be visualized from fifth menstrual week onwards(12). The majority of early
studies on CRL demonstrated that the accuracy of the method in predicting menstrual age was 3 to 5
days (±2 standard deviations)(13,14).
Hadlock et al(15) concurred that accuracy decreases as the first trimester of pregnancy nears its end.
They developed measurement tables establishing menstrual age for CRL.
SECOND AND THIRD TRIMESTERS OF PREGNANCY (14 42 weeks)
Parameters used for evaluating gestational age in the second trimester are:
1. Biparietal diameter measurement (BPD) : BPD measurements are taken from trans axial sonograms
of fetal head at the level of paired thalami and cavum septum pellucidi. The BPD is measured from the
outer edge of the cranium nearest the

Skin Color In Othello
In the well written play of Othello, the author and playwright William Shakespeare, uses indirect
characterization, euphemisms and specific monologues to reinforce the idea that even though Othello
is a high ranking officer and skilled warrior he is still subject to racial prejudice from his colleagues,
and this proves that skin color can be an influence on life no matter the attributes of an individual
during this particular period in history. Shakespeare s Othello is a romantic tragedy about a two
individuals who form an interracial marriage in a society and period in time where such a thing is
considered strange, unaccounted for, and also wrong. Throughout the course of this story the couple
goes through trials that test their faith in one another and, in the end, they are not able to stand up to
the challenge and both fall or are pushed into the embrace of death. Long before the grim reaper takes
either of them it is demonstrated how Othello, the husband, is affected by his African heritage in
Desdemona s, the wife s, caucasian society.
In the first acts, scenes and lines of the play it is made apparent that Brabantio, Desdemona s father a
rich and important Venetian politician, does actually enjoy Othello s company and likes him well
enough. Her father lov d me, oft invited me; Still question d me the story of my life... (Shakespeare
1.3.128 129) Othello himself even admits to the fact that Brabantio him and loved to hear all his
stories up until this very moment.

The Science of Shopping
9/26/2011 The Science of Shopping Everyday thousands of retail stores throughout the United States
open up their stores in the morning for the sole purpose of attracting customers and selling them
merchandise. For this assignment I decided to do a store analysis of the retail giant Wal Mart. To begin
with I will evaluate the store layout and design. Next I will explain the visual merchandising
techniques used that Wal Mart uses. Finally I will discuss the problems and recommendations that I
have for Wal Mart. Wal Mart has continually been a leader in the retail industry, and it all starts with
the layout of the store. From the second that you pull into the Wal Mart parking lot you are already
faced with an important decision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing Wal Mart uses is many of their departments are cash wraps. Most of these cash wraps
tended to be things like batteries, gum, candy, and soda. With Wal Mart being such a large store, many
departments also have their own checkout counters that allow customers who are only looking for
certain items to be able to get in and out. Wal Mart also uses end caps on almost every aisle in the
store. These end caps are usually impulse buy items that are offering special promotional prices.
Another thing that Wal Mart does is that it shelves their items based on frequency. The most popular
items or the items that most consumers buy will be located in the beginning of the aisle and at eye
level, while other infrequent items are placed lower on the shelves and more towards the end of the
aisle. To accurately keep track of what items need to be restocked or what items are selling the best,
Wal Mart uses a planogram. The planogram they use utilizes SKU s and will allow for employees to
figure out exactly where everything goes and when it needs to be restocked. With Wal Mart being the
leader in retail stores, it is obvious that they must be doing something right. While I was unable to
figure out the profitability of space, I was able to find out that their grocery section is the least
profitable and that their electronics section is the most profitable.

Descriptive Essay About Being Alone In Space
It was a dark stormy night with the smell of fall in the air. The light shining down was tangent and I
can still remember the sound of the rain dripping down from the cold ceilings as it started dripping
down our necks. It was eerily quiet and the only noises heard were coming from up above along the
sewer drains. The scary part is, I remember it like it was yesterday, there was grit in my teeth and not
from that morning s breakfast. There was little to no visibility as if you were alone in space. The truth
is, we weren t alone, we had each other, but that just meant there were short sprung moments of grace
between us. The only way we could see each other was due to the bright orange jumpsuits that we all

After about 20 minutes of not hearing anything we started to slow down. As we regained our stamina
and talked quietly, I could hear the other guys talking about how carefree the security was back at the
prison. Meanwhile as the guys filed in line behind chatting about how lucky we were, all that came to
my mind was one simple question, who framed us? And why? And that was where it really began.
According to the warden, if we continued walking for about a quarter mile we would eventually reach
a tunnel that veered off to the left. If we followed that tunnel for around 40 feet we would run into a
barred exit. Now you may be confused as to what I said earlier when I said the warden told us how to
escape. That or the question of should we trust her? Well that was a hard one to do but the warden was
a good sincere person who knew right from wrong. She knew it wasn t us six who committed the
murder of a woman and her child. We were men who were known to be criminals but never would any
of us murder someone. In fact half of us wouldn t hurt a fly but with one look at us, you might think
much differently, but the warden knew that.
So we did what the warden told us and we followed the tunnels until we came upon a tunnel extension
that veered off to the left. When we got there we followed it about the

Alfred Rosenberg And The Life Of Alfred Rosenberg
Alfred Rosenberg was born January 12, 1893 in Reval, Estonia. His parents were Baltic Germans.
Rosenberg studied architecture at the Riga Polytechnical Institute in Moscow and received his
diploma in 1917. In his younger years, he was interested in the works of German Idealists and Kant,
Nietzsche and Houston Stewart Chamberlain. However the greatest influence in his life was Indian
philosophy. He goes on to say that he liked that his school from when he was very young was an oasis
of peace for all the young children who attended, who were of different national origins. Rosenberg
had a special place in his heart for art, philosophy. (Rosenberg, 3).
He got a travel permit to Germany after the Revolution of 1917 because he believed that his homeland
would no longer be the same. He says that he left his homeland in search of a fatherland for himself
(Rosenberg, 13). He went to Germany in 1918 and met Dietrich Eckhart who was the person whom he
worked closely with and was also the one that connected him with Adolf Hitler. Rosenberg joined the
Nazi party in 1919 and Adolf Hitler and other well known Nazis joined soon after. (Jacob,i).
Zeitgeist
The climate of that time period in Germany was influenced by the growing popularity of Nazism and
Anti Semitism. Rosenberg was influenced by all the Anti Semitic authors of his childhood and by his
first hand experience of the involvement of the Jews during the Russian Revolution in 1917. In 1919,

Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay
I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba,
but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in
mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were
shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution
was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story,
Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that
things were done their way. He speaks of the fear of being killed. Castro goes on to talk about how
these revolutionaries always seem to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that if that was the case, then the revolution would not have been worth it. We know now that
is exactly what became of Castro a powerful man that became the king figure that he so vehemently
despised. Castro praises the people of Cuba. No general can do more than the people. No army can do
more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes
or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were
important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander
or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to
the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro
trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking
statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will
resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was
surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was
in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and
executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39). It is hard for me to comprehend how Castro
could feel that these

Review of Movies, In Time and Time Will Salas
The movie In Time shows a world where people are genetically engineered with a specifically limited
amount of time to live. Digital clocks on their forearm show one chronological year, which begins
ticking down at age 25, while they physically stop aging at the same age. When your time expires, you
die instantly. In this world, time is the universal currency and everything you do requires and is
rewarded with time. There are two primary time zones, based on the wealth, or time owned, of its
population. Dayton, which is poor, and New Greenwich, the wealthiest. Will, a 28 year old factory
worker from poorer Dayton saves Henry, a time wealthy New Greenwich citizen, from an attempted
robbery and murder by a gang called the Minute Men. Once safe, Henry explains to Will the truth
behind wealth: there is enough time for everyone to live a long life, but New Greenwich citizens take
most of the time and store it so they can be immortal. To ensure their position, wealthier districts raise
the cost of living, impoverishing everyone else. Henry states: For a few to be immortal, many must
die. Henry gives sleeping Will most of his time, leaving a cryptic note: Don t waste my time. This
helps Will finally realizes what Henry meant all along, and was able to understand and comprehend
his private language and personal code philosophized as discussed by the philosopher Ludwig
Wittgenstein.

Essay The Mexican Maquiladoras
The Mexican Maquiladoras
As a major contributor to the global economy, Mexico s sweatshops have contributed to the United
States wealth and economic growth. It is the unfortunate truth that many individual workers have
suffered as a result of this prosperity. The sweatshops, known as maquiladoras, are in debate because
of the ethical and lawful reasoning behind their existence and conditions. How can we, as a First
world nation, allow such industries to exist where people are denied basic and fundamental human
rights? What, if any, laws and regulations are put into place for the maquiladoras? Are these laws and
regulations hindering, harmful, or helpful? Are they enforced emphatically? If not, how does this

However, I do not think that it is difficult for the companies that relocate to Mexico to understand
what they are doing; in essence, they relocate these transnational corporations to Mexico in order to
save money and make more profits. It is also difficult for Western women to identify themselves
outside the consumer identity; therefore, as Mies and Shiva have established the importance of finding
common ground , it is difficult for many women to obtain this. Often, Western women cannot find any
relation between themselves and the women of Third World countries. In their book Ecofeminism,
Mies and Shiva establish the difficulties associated within the search, or lack of a search, for common
ground between First World and Third World women. Some women, however, particularly urban,
middle class women, find it difficult to perceive commonality...between themselves and different
women in the world....the one always considered superior, always thriving, and progressing at the
expense of the other. (Mies and Shiva, p.5) Therefore, as Mies and Shiva have underlined, it is
difficult for many women to see their own ties and connections to recognize the producer vs.
consumer relationship, and as a result, the exploitation of other countries. A feminist s response to the
United States role in the creation of the free trade zones and the maquiladoras is as follows.

A Collective Identity Of Europe
Post war European nations were faced with the task of restructuring their states after the devastating
war. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The
Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a
stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective
identity of Europe. As nation states were trying to redefine their history and assert their independence
it became a delicate balance between maintaining their own identity and joining in the Community
that would impose new regulation but also provide the resources necessary to rebuild economically.
This struggle to maintain a national identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benefit was that nation states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit from
the advancing international markets that were more accessible.
However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is inadvertently
based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to state. In order to
formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in place. In the sense of
the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set of rules that everyone
agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit from a larger political
body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would regulate the economy,
and provide security for the vulnerable post war nations. In doing so, Europe would create a collective
identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger unified economy sounded
promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The European Community s goal
was to create a unification of the nation states but from the viewpoint of a individual state this could
be a loss of independence and identity. This communal identity made western European states
resemble each other much more than they resembled those of other places or other times. The focus

the speaker s voice emerges invincible in the end as he proudly declares in the couplet, that he has
found a way to confound time through his writing. Consequently, the youth s beauty shall transcend
time and space as the poet s praise in verse, instead of the youth s children, will be the vehicle through
which his beauty will live forever. Thus, the poet convinces both the youth and the reader that art is a

Canada Target Market Segmentation
Firms that utilize market segmentation, targeting, and positioning strategy have recognized that their
product can be focused on specific portions of the market. Thus enabling the most successful
marketing of their product. These firms operate under a consideration that they are not marketing their
product onto the entire market but just onto specific portions, in order to tailor their marketing and
their products. While this type of market can be successful for some brands and products it is not an
approach that all firms can rely for success as their products must fit within the requirements for that
desired market segments. The 3 firms discussed below, Southwest Airlines, NetJets and Target have
chosen to utilize this approach to market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many customers were expecting a similar experience to what they had known from the United States
but in reality the experience was very similar to the other discount retailers already operating in
Canada. Thus further driving Target out of position within the segment. In the end Targets expansion

itself within a market segment, expansion of that segment is a not a guaranteed success. Especially
when cultivated expectations do not match up with realities that they brand is able to

The Short Life Of Francis Macomber Analysis
In the short story The Short Life of Francis Macomber, Hemingway portrays many emotions and
motivating forces behind the characters intentions. Ernest Hemingway experienced many historical
events in his lifetime. Throughout these experiences, he endured humiliation and disappointment from
wanting to join the military, but unable to due to a health condition. Hemingway also underwent a
divorce four times. These experiences help influence Hemingway s writing style, especially in The
Short Life of Francis Macomber when he demonstrates the challenges the characters undergo
throughout the short story. This story is about the experience of an American married couple who go
on an adventure in Africa. This adventure focuses on the big game hunt. If Francis were to kill the lion
he would enter into his manhood. When things do go as planned for Francis he faces his wife Margot
who is extremely judgmental of him. She never lets him forget about how humiliating he was to her.
This couple argues and manipulate each other. In Hemingway s The Short Life of Francis Macomber,
the use of interchanging personalities of Margot Macomber s reveal her true intentions in her marriage
between her and Francis. First and foremost, Margot Macomber is introduced as a beautiful person but
her personality is not initially described but the reader finds out that her relationship with her husband
comes with a deeper meaning. In the beginning, Margret Macomber is described by the narrator as ,

Summary Of When Mercy Collides With The Law
Morality vs. The rule of Law The article When Mercy Collides with The Law is a very interesting
piece, on a man living in a Chicago suburb who opened his basement to the homeless on cold nights.
The city came in and stopped him, on the grounds that he violated municipal regulations . Greg
Schiller, 53, had set up a shelter for the homeless during the recent cold spells, allowing them to stay
the night when it dropped below negative 15. He provided cots and hot food and drink for them. The
city of Elgin shut him down because his basement didn t meet certain safety requirements. The side I
would choose in this dispute is the side of Schiller, although I can see the point of the city council. I
think that he has the right to provide for disadvantaged

The Art of War Analysis
The Art of War Analysis The Art of War was one of our world s first written documents that dealt with
militaristic strategies and advancements. The book was written by a Chinese military leader named
Sun Tzu, who commanded and analyzed his military over the Warring States Period of China. Sun Tzu
produced this text in an attempt to provide future military advantages for the Chinese, but The Art of
War s ideas eventually spread to neighboring civilizations and empires. The ideas and facts expressed
in Sun Tzu s writings proved effective as military groups became more powerful through the writings.
Throughout The Art of War, Sun Tzu expressed his views and tactics primarily in moral ethics,
intelligence, environmental tactics, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fighting in one s homeland will lead to better conditions for the army that originated in that area
because they know of the environment and what it takes to survive there. Sun Tzu explains his
opinions of military tactics on six types of terrain and all of them easily gave the best advantages to
the military that used them. The last topic that Sun Tzu took great pride in was military leadership.
Since Sun Tzu was a general, he knew how to run an army to its best conditions with a minimal
amount of casualties. During the text, Sun Tzu states, Now the general is the pillar of the state; if the
pillar has mastered all points of war, the state will be strong; if the pillar is defective, the state will be
week. (p. #1) Tzu is using the general s leadership as a supporting structure to the whole empire or
civilization. If the military leader is dysfunctional, then the whole state or empire will be dysfunctional
as well. The Art of War also states, The masterful leader cultivates the moral law, and strictly adheres
to proper methods and discipline; thus it is his power to control success. (p. #1) The leader must also
have great morals in order to run a great military and these morals by which the leader lives by will
serve as models for the civilization. A great military starts with a great leader, and

Difficulties And Challenges Of Learning
One of the greatest skills that we have developed as a people is our capacity and ability for language.
Creating a way for us to communicate spread ideas and further enriches our lives, language both
verbally and written, has been a great benefit to our lives. Unfortunately not everyone is as quick to
understand language in its forms, for example when a person may have difficulties in reading.
Obviously this would create a great hindrance to a person s life, and there have been a few identified
factors that have correlated with difficulties in learning to read. One of the main connections that has
been found is that a person who has difficulty in processing sounds of words, that they may also have
lessened reading abilities. In discussing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one, even though there has been shown to be a link between auditory and verbal abilities and
reading, they are only parts of what make up the entire whole process of reading (Bishop and
Snowling 2004, Cain et al. 2004). Secondly is because there are a few important distinctions to make
between the two group sets. First would be the types of skills that fall in each group. Examples of
skills that fall within the phonological side are letter sound knowledge and phoneme awareness
(Hulme et al. 2012). In discussing phonemes, they can be defined as a unit of sound to distinguish
units of meaning or put more simply, the different noises that when put together create words (Fox and
Routh 1980). Non phonological skills on the other hand would relate to semantics along with dealing
with the definitions and comprehension of words (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). The second is the
problems associated within each skill set. When dealing with problems associated with reading, on the
phonological side concerns with word decoding may arise if these skills slack (Bowyer Crane et al.
2008). With non phonological skills issues, problems with reading comprehension can occur (Bowyer
Crane et al. 2008). In discussing problems that arise within the phonological group set, along with
more in depth skill insights, a number of researchers have found vital breakthroughs. In dealing with
the learning of reading, phonological awareness has

Ambassadors Character Analysis
The next character, Ambassador Louis Sears uses two SOF imperatives in complete contrast of their
definition throughout his role as Ambassador to Sarkhan. The first imperative is understanding the
operational environment and the second imperative is recognize political implications. However, I will
tie in the National Committees mistakes in selecting Ambassadors, which contrast the imperative
consider long term effects. Ambassador Louis Sears had served as a Democratic Senator for 18 years
and expected tenure in a federal Judgeship upon his departure. That desire solidified his actions as
Ambassador. Consequently, he is careless of his roles, politically unfocused, and self driven only for

Homer quickly displayed his understanding for the operational environment. For instance, he
immerses into the country and culture after he s given an assignment from Ambassador McWhite to
develop a water pump for the Sarkhanese people. He persevered through design challenges and was
able to identified critical components found within Sarkhan. This allowed him to invent and develop a
self sufficient pump that the Sarkhanese could build and run themselves. In a like manor, I compare
Homers intentions to a Confucius quote, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to
fish and feed him for a life time. Homer was dedicated to providing the solution but understood it to
be a temporary fix if he did all the work. He knew that teaching the Sarkhanese how to construct the
pump on their own, would empower them to self sustain. He also understood that the Asian culture
wasn t the type to accept handouts. Homer displays this awareness by operating through and with
village headmen civil society leader and their chosen mechanic Jeepo, to introduce and construct the
water pump. Those simple courtesies provide solid evidence that Homer was aware of his operational
environment, which assisted him in working with and through others. Furthermore, Homer displayed
this while fostering his relationship between the village elders and Jeepo by maintaining confidents in
Jeepo s ability to solve the water pump efficiency issue. As a result, Homers actions rehabilitated the
American image and assisted in the water pumps acceptance. In the end, Homer empowered Jeepo and
the villagers to build water pumps for their

The Hobbit Character Analysis
The Hobbit is a fantasy novel, by J.R.R. Tolkien that tells the story of an unexpected story. Rather than
being about a main character who is brave and noble, this story is about Bilbo Baggins, a predictable,
mild mannered hobbit. He lives in his cozy home and avoids anything out of the ordinary until he is
presented with the opportunity of an adventure with Gandalf the wizard along with 13 dwarves. The
goal is to take back the homeland of the dwarves from the dragon, Smaug, who has attacked and taken
over. The journey entails mountains, forests, and creatures such as trolls, goblins, elves, and more.
And even though no one sees much potential in the seemingly weak hobbit, Gandalf sees traits of a
hero within Bilbo. This journey results in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point in the novel, the narrator describes, On they went, Gollum flip flapping ahead, hissing
and cursing; Bilbo behind going as softly as a hobbit can (85). Once Gollum gets angry, Bilbo slips on
the ring and becomes aware of its power invisibility. He takes advantage of this and follows Gollum
until navigates his way back to the dwarves. This demonstrates Bilbo s cleverness because it shows his
ability to quickly read a situation. He has to think on his feet and independently if he is to return to the
others. Bilbo has never been put in a situation where he has to quickly think on his own quite like this,
so clearly, he has exhibited cleverness which has commenced his transformation. Through his
experience in Mirkwood, Bilbo exhibits selflessness, which continues his transformation. In this
episode, Bilbo and the dwarves enter the dark forest of Mirkwood and encounter giant spiders they
have to fight off. The spiders entrap the dwarves in their silk, leaving Bilbo (with the ring) to find a
way to save everyone. Bilbo shows his selflessness at this point when the novel says, Bilbo saw that
the moment had come when he must do something. (159) and then later continues to say, In this way,
[Bilbo and Fili, who he had just rescued] rescued Kili, Bifur, Bofur, Dori, and Nori (162). This shows
Bilbo s selflessness because he s so determined to rescue the other dwarves and he once again has to

Why Is Donald Trump Controversial
The election of Donald Trump has been very controversial. People have very different views on
Trump being president. Some American s think positively of him and some people think negatively of
him. Despite what you think about Donald Trump, his presidency is going to impact your life in some
way. Donald Trump s policies are going to impact my life because of his immigration stance, his tax
proposals, and his view on gun laws.
Donald Trump s immigration stance is going to negatively impact the lives of my friends. Trump plans
to build a border wall and deport all illegal aliens. This will impact some of my friends because
members of their family could get deported. It was stated that, the Republican has stood by his call to
build an impenetrable wall along the 2,000 plus mile US Mexico border (bbc.com.) Donald Trump
plans to deport 11 million illegal aliens from the United States. Critics call his plan, unaffordable and
unrealistic (bbc.com), but he refuses to drop his stance.
Donald Trump s tax proposals are going to positively impact the lives of my family. Trump plans to
reduce the number of tax brackets for working, middle class American citizens. Donald Trump s plans

Cisco s An Information Age Company
Cisco Case Write Up
1. Compare and contrast the use of IT in an information Age company versus that in an industrial Age
company? Is Cisco an Information Age company? Why? The Industrial Age company is a traditional
company, which believes in uniformity, stability, permanence, security, and competition; however, the
Information Age company is totally contrasted. The Information Age company focuses on diversity,
cooperation, flexibility, motivation for cooperating, and communication by using information over e
commerce. The impact of control of information and how it is creating super valuable companies like
Apple, Google and Facebook can be seen during these days. Each company controls massive amounts
of data on consumers, creates products that leverage that information, and delivers services that are
therefore irresistible.
Cisco is clearly the one of Information Age companies. Cisco gives the priority on the Information
Technology. In the case study, Cisco adopted strategy of systematic acquisitions and strategic partners,
which proof that Cisco focuses on cooperated information. Cisco also concerned about
standardization, flexibility, extensibility, and scalability. The decisions that Solvik and his team made
during this case trends to emphasize how more Cisco becomes closer to the definition of Information
Age company. They applied internet and intranet which is not so popular at that year for employee self
service, communication and distance learning, customer

Speach Therapy Treatment Plan Essay
Treatment plan Articulation: Goal: In 6 weeks, with a treatment frequency of 5 hours a week, mrs. K.
speaks words with velar sounds (/ng/ /g/ /k/) in a 1 to 1 conversation with an acquaintance in an
intelligible way. Methods: First we will check which velar sounds mrs. K. can produce better than the
others. After that, we will do articulation exercises. We will train syllables in a CV order and words in
CVC order, but soon we will train syllables and words with clusters to make it more difficult. Mrs. K.
has a moderate flaccid dysarthria, so we think that she can manage it to train in the beginning with
complex words. That way, she will also have a higher chance of transfer to CVC words (Maas et al.,
2008, p. 2). The words we will use in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Methods: We will use mime therapy. According to Beurskens Heymans (2006, p. 1) mime therapy
improves facial symmetry and reduces the severity of paresis in people with facial nerve paresis. The
aim of mime therapy is to promote symmetry of the face at rest and during movement (Beurskens et
al., 2004, p. 208). In therapy, a mirror is used as feedback instrument, as it is necessary to see how
exercises are performed. We choose to do the mime therapy in our therapy planning because mrs. K.
revealed that she wants to smile arbitrary in a symmetric way again. We conclude from the case
example that this is a very important goal for her. We expect mrs. K. to do homework every day. She
has to massage her face and neck (daily 10 15 minutes) to relax the facial musculature and improve
circulation and she has to do relaxation exercises. Evaluation: According Beurskens et al. (2004, p.
XX), the House Brackmann scale is used to evaluate positive changes in the facial symmetry. We
expect an improvement for 1 grade (Beurskens et al., 2004, pag 210). Prosody: Later on, we want to
work on the prosody, because she has a low and monotone voice. That could be a problem when she
wants to read to her grandchildren. We expect it also to be a problem for her intelligibility when she is
conversing with other people. We think that the articulation problems have priority at this moment, so
we start with that. After

Out of the silent planet
Out of the silent planet by C.S Lewis is a novel that denotes the difference between the social system
on planet earth and the planet Malacandra. In Malacandra, groups live in harmony with one another
and complement each other. On earth, the social system is brutal and evil. The novel is a science
fiction that covers Dr. Ransoms (major character) adventures and encounters on a planet that is
entirely different from earth. Ransoms lands into this planet by accident after being kidnapped by two
evil men (Devine and Weston) and transported to the planet Malacandra (Mars) by spacecraft. In

This is different to what happens on earth where groups are in constant dominance wars, often
breaking into factions that regard each other as inherently inferior. The kidnappers, Devine and
Weston represent this dominance character of Earthly beings.
On earth, people are self centered and do not care for each other. In contrast, On Malacandra, various
species live and work together (Gibbons 88). There three intelligent species in Malacandra and their
differences of knowledge is their strength. The pfifltriggi excavate and makes things out of their
excavation, the Seroni are the master of knowledge and the hrossa were poets (Lewis, 68). Even with
these different talents, there is no group that wants to dominate the other. They know that they have
differences but have accepted them since they can talk to each other, they can cooperate, and they
have the same ethics (Lewis 156).
The leadership system on earth is also different from the other planets. Unlike the earth, all the other
planets have a structured leadership; they have a ruler (Oyarsa). The earth is unruly because people
have no common Oyarsa and this makes people bent. Everyone on earth wants to be a little Oyarsa
himself (Lewis 102). The Oyarsa of Malacandra, in reference to the actions of Devine and Weston of
kidnapping, is surprised how any creature could be so

  • 2. The Soldier By Wilfred Owen Participating in war often is romanticized and is seen as a heroic and honorable act. This romanticism, of course, can only be put forth by one who has never experienced the inhumane devastation that each battle each moment causes for the minds and in bodies of every soldier. The Soldier was written by Rupert Brooke in 1914, just before World War One was about to begin, while Dulce et Decorum Est. was written by Wilfred Owen in 1917, during which Word War One was being fought harshly. Due to The Soldier being written before the War began, this poem depicts an idealized perception of war in which the subject topically seems honored to die for his country, and content to know that the blood of his country s men will be shed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rupert, at this point, has yet to experience the War and is able to suppress his fears with these nationalistic viewpoints. He believes that he is ready to fight and that he is willing to die. Yet, there seems to be something deeper in his poem when Rupert begins talking about himself as A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,/ Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam (5 6). It is evident, in these lines, that England is a metaphor for his mother who bore him and gave him her ways to roam . It is in this transition that Rupert s unease becomes apparent. Rupert as an outsider of war at this time, has allowed the reader to experience a romanticized sense of war, but the unease he feels has become evident throughout this poem. He has not experienced war first hand, but he is absolutely aware that the pain of war is not diminished when one sacrifices himself for his country. Rupert is afraid to die. He talks of England as his mother and shows a sense of dread to leave behind dust that his mother put so much love into. A quote from Stallworthy s biography of Rupert leaves an eerie feeling behind. ...I wonder whether some of the unease that over the years has crept into readers response may not be related to a lack of conviction on the part of its author as he tried to convince himself of the existence of an afterlife in which he did not believe (193). ... • 3. High Renaissance Art Three fascinating artists known as Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo marked the stylistic period of the Italy 1500 to 1600. These three men inspired the high Renaissance. Florence and Rome hosted the leading artist for that century. I will like to describe a painting of Raphael that caught my attention from reading the textbook; it is called the Marriage of the Virgin. In this painting the artists used linear perspective to create the illusion of space in the far back. He placed the vanishing point of the one point perspective in the doorway of the beautiful painted round house that is symmetrical on both side. The artists created the plaster in different sizes of rectangular shapes in red and cream colors to emphasize on the importance of linear perspective in the painting. If the painting was divided in two parts, the viewer will see that it is symmetric on both sides. There are thirteen figures on each side of the painting with the high priest being the middleman placed in the center of the human drama. He also put the figures in groups that relate to the part they each play in the artwork, this is known as a unified figure group in high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the back of the portrait he included a beautiful landscape by incorporating chiaroscuro and atmospheric perspective. The figure itself is a triangular shape. The artist used different shades of colors to achieve the smoky look he wanted. The emotion is maintained and well balance; this can be seen in the way she seated quietly and the gentle smile on the figure. The figure also gazes directly at the viewer to encage with them. In many cultures women are not allowed to look in the eyes of men because men are perceive to be dominant and superior over females. During the renaissance people dictated that women should not do the same, however Leonardo was able to capture the personality of this woman through her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Discovery Of The Indian Caribbean Museum Of Trinidad... Introduction On Saturday 14th January 2017, I visited the Indian Caribbean Museum. The museum is situated at #10 Swami Avenue, Don Miguel, San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. It is located nearby the temple in the sea at Waterloo. It is also stationed directly opposite the Waterloo Hindu Temple. The museum is a small flat building which consists of ancient artifacts. The museum s large collection has been acquired through field trips by managers of the institution. The collection of artifacts comprises of old items such as musical instruments, agricultural objects, cooking utensils, pieces of clothing, ancient photographs and historical books. These different artifacts are separated by glass cases and are properly labeled. Some artifacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The museum is managed and owned by the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha and other committee members. The director, Mr. Satnarayan Maharaj, Mr. Ramjit Maharaj, the chairman, the vice chairman Dr. Kumar Mahabir, the curator, Saisbhan Jokhan, the vice curator, Ann Marie Ramhit, and twelve other committee members are the managers of the museum. The last Saturday of each month the committee members get together for a meeting. At this meeting the curator would report to the committee. The committee makes decisions and decides on how to improve and develop the museum in the best way possible. Also on the first Wednesday of each month the curator reports to the executive of the Maha Sabha. The museums superior collections comprises of unique resources and artifacts of immigrants who settled in Trinidad and Tobago. It includes cooking utensils, historical and religious books, ancient photographs, musical instruments, agricultural objects, jewelry, clothing and forms of transportation (bicycle). Discussion of Selected Artifacts Three types of artifacts that interested me the most at the museum are the agricultural objects, the cooking utensils and clothing. The agriculture objects such as: cutlass, pick axe, axe grinding stone and grass knife (hassawa). The grinding stone also known as the Jata in hindi was used by each plantation. Every ... CRITICAL REFLECTION ON PRACTICING PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP COURSE I have been involve in different leadership roles during my professional and personal experience but after attending this course of practicing leadership and public health course, I have enhanced my skills in various perspective which would be helpful for my personal and professional growth. The content of the course provided me the opportunity to explore more about my personal and professional strengths and weakness with the perspective of leadership. I have realized the importance of the strong leadership in all aspects of the life when I had written my biopic for this course required by the facilitators. It was great experience to reflect on my own achievements and accomplishment by interlinking with new learned skills and education. On the very first day, I was overwhelmed and excited because I was going to learn from two great mentors. I was also excited to share my previous practicing leadership skills with other group members although I have greatly sharpened my leadership skills according to the framework provided by the facilitators on the first day. I had been provided different opportunities to demonstrate the leadership skills in my professional and personal life and I fulfilled the criteria according to that situation however, this course highlighted some gaps, which needs to be addressed in my future implications. • 6. Mise-en-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite Essay Mise en Scene in Napoleon Dynamite In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order to bring out Napoleon s persona in ways other than simply guessing who he really is. Rather, these techniques explicitly imply certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, considerable portion of the significant sound in the film occurs in the music. The most blatant effect of the music is the cheesy MIDI arrangements. These outdated compositions portray the tackiness of Napoleon; he and the music are clearly out of style. One of the crudest examples of this is when Napoleon buys his suit; the muzak in the background is as unbearably corny as Napoleon s taste in clothing. Albeit music is a fundamental factor in Napoleon Dynamite, it is not the only element of sound that is relevant. The sound effects in the film also give clues as to what kind of person Napoleon really is. One supporting example is when he is eating tots in the middle of class. The unnecessarily loud crunching noise portrays his manifest lack of craftiness and style. There was one audio technique, however, that was extremely puzzling. In every scene inside a house, there is a very subtle background of birds chirping. This emphasizes the fact that Napoleon lives a rural community, rather than a busy suburb or city setting. This sound is extremely understated, however, and is obviously intended to be a subconscious feature to the viewer. Napoleon uses some of his own characteristic sounds in the film to facilitate who he is. As a matter of fact, the first sound he makes in the movie is long, depressed sigh when he sees the school bus approaching. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare And Contrast The Massachusetts Bay Colonies And... Making empires was not the primary goal of the English colonies. The true goal was to build unique and successful colonies. Those that did were rewarded. Massachusetts Bay and Chesapeake colonies were both similar and different. The first colony to have been founded in the Chesapeake area was Virginia, the first three ships sent out were Discovery, Godspeed, and Susan Constant. The first attempt never quite flourished as it would with John Rolfe. Disease from water contamination caused most of the deaths. John Winthrop founded the Massachusetts Bay colony and did not exactly make the grand City on the Hill he had hoped to make. Both colonies had their undoubtable strengths and weaknesses, but it is important to connect these distinct colonies for what they would later become part of, a nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both the original Puritans and Puritan Separatists escaped their home country for religious reasons. The Puritans who came from Anglia, England to ultimately settle in Massachusetts Bay left because they felt that the Church of England had not separated itself enough from its Catholic roots. One of the Chesapeake colonies, ironically enough, was mainly founded on the religious persecution the people of Massachusetts Bay had imposed upon them. Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams and later became home to Anne Hutchinson, both showing motions of antinomianism. Maryland was another colony in the Chesapeake region that was founded on religious purposes. The Quakers in England were badly treated and often killed and martyred for their cause. Maryland became site of a major Quaker population after their previous migration from England to Holland. The way all of these colonies were founded seemed to revolve around a common need for a better religious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Dating Of Pregnacy With Ultrasonography DATING OF PREGNACY WITH ULTRASONOGRAPHY FIRST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY (0 TO 13 WEEKS) Parameters used for evaluating gestational age are: 1. Gestational sac measurement : Mean sac diameter (MSD) is measured using the sum of three orthogonal dimensions of the fluid sac wall interface divided by three. Gestational sac is first visualized by transabdominal sonography at 5 weeks. MSD increases at the rate of 1mm/day in early gestation. At 5.5 weeks a yolk sac appears. At six weeks an embryo first appears adjacent to the yolk sac.(11) 2. Crown Rump length (CRL) : Once the embryo can be visualized, the measurement of choice for estimation of menstrual age becomes the crown rump length. Using transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS), embryo can be visualized from fifth menstrual week onwards(12). The majority of early studies on CRL demonstrated that the accuracy of the method in predicting menstrual age was 3 to 5 days (±2 standard deviations)(13,14). Hadlock et al(15) concurred that accuracy decreases as the first trimester of pregnancy nears its end. They developed measurement tables establishing menstrual age for CRL. SECOND AND THIRD TRIMESTERS OF PREGNANCY (14 42 weeks) Parameters used for evaluating gestational age in the second trimester are: 1. Biparietal diameter measurement (BPD) : BPD measurements are taken from trans axial sonograms of fetal head at the level of paired thalami and cavum septum pellucidi. The BPD is measured from the outer edge of the cranium nearest the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Skin Color In Othello In the well written play of Othello, the author and playwright William Shakespeare, uses indirect characterization, euphemisms and specific monologues to reinforce the idea that even though Othello is a high ranking officer and skilled warrior he is still subject to racial prejudice from his colleagues, and this proves that skin color can be an influence on life no matter the attributes of an individual during this particular period in history. Shakespeare s Othello is a romantic tragedy about a two individuals who form an interracial marriage in a society and period in time where such a thing is considered strange, unaccounted for, and also wrong. Throughout the course of this story the couple goes through trials that test their faith in one another and, in the end, they are not able to stand up to the challenge and both fall or are pushed into the embrace of death. Long before the grim reaper takes either of them it is demonstrated how Othello, the husband, is affected by his African heritage in Desdemona s, the wife s, caucasian society. In the first acts, scenes and lines of the play it is made apparent that Brabantio, Desdemona s father a rich and important Venetian politician, does actually enjoy Othello s company and likes him well enough. Her father lov d me, oft invited me; Still question d me the story of my life... (Shakespeare 1.3.128 129) Othello himself even admits to the fact that Brabantio him and loved to hear all his stories up until this very moment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Science of Shopping 9/26/2011 The Science of Shopping Everyday thousands of retail stores throughout the United States open up their stores in the morning for the sole purpose of attracting customers and selling them merchandise. For this assignment I decided to do a store analysis of the retail giant Wal Mart. To begin with I will evaluate the store layout and design. Next I will explain the visual merchandising techniques used that Wal Mart uses. Finally I will discuss the problems and recommendations that I have for Wal Mart. Wal Mart has continually been a leader in the retail industry, and it all starts with the layout of the store. From the second that you pull into the Wal Mart parking lot you are already faced with an important decision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing Wal Mart uses is many of their departments are cash wraps. Most of these cash wraps tended to be things like batteries, gum, candy, and soda. With Wal Mart being such a large store, many departments also have their own checkout counters that allow customers who are only looking for certain items to be able to get in and out. Wal Mart also uses end caps on almost every aisle in the store. These end caps are usually impulse buy items that are offering special promotional prices. Another thing that Wal Mart does is that it shelves their items based on frequency. The most popular items or the items that most consumers buy will be located in the beginning of the aisle and at eye level, while other infrequent items are placed lower on the shelves and more towards the end of the aisle. To accurately keep track of what items need to be restocked or what items are selling the best, Wal Mart uses a planogram. The planogram they use utilizes SKU s and will allow for employees to figure out exactly where everything goes and when it needs to be restocked. With Wal Mart being the leader in retail stores, it is obvious that they must be doing something right. While I was unable to figure out the profitability of space, I was able to find out that their grocery section is the least profitable and that their electronics section is the most profitable. ... The light shining down was tangent and I can still remember the sound of the rain dripping down from the cold ceilings as it started dripping down our necks. It was eerily quiet and the only noises heard were coming from up above along the sewer drains. The scary part is, I remember it like it was yesterday, there was grit in my teeth and not from that morning s breakfast. There was little to no visibility as if you were alone in space. The truth is, we weren t alone, we had each other, but that just meant there were short sprung moments of grace between us. After about 20 minutes of not hearing anything we started to slow down. As we regained our stamina and talked quietly, I could hear the other guys talking about how carefree the security was back at the prison. Meanwhile as the guys filed in line behind chatting about how lucky we were, all that came to my mind was one simple question, who framed us? And why? And that was where it really began. According to the warden, if we continued walking for about a quarter mile we would eventually reach a tunnel that veered off to the left. If we followed that tunnel for around 40 feet we would run into a barred exit. Now you may be confused as to what I said earlier when I said the warden told us how to escape. That or the question of should we trust her? Well that was a hard one to do but the warden was a good sincere person who knew right from wrong. She knew it wasn t us six who committed the murder of a woman and her child. We were men who were known to be criminals but never would any of us murder someone. In fact half of us wouldn t hurt a fly but with one look at us, you might think much differently, but the warden knew that. Rosenberg studied architecture at the Riga Polytechnical Institute in Moscow and received his diploma in 1917. In his younger years, he was interested in the works of German Idealists and Kant, Nietzsche and Houston Stewart Chamberlain. However the greatest influence in his life was Indian philosophy. He goes on to say that he liked that his school from when he was very young was an oasis of peace for all the young children who attended, who were of different national origins. Rosenberg had a special place in his heart for art, philosophy. (Rosenberg, 3). He got a travel permit to Germany after the Revolution of 1917 because he believed that his homeland would no longer be the same. He says that he left his homeland in search of a fatherland for himself (Rosenberg, 13). He went to Germany in 1918 and met Dietrich Eckhart who was the person whom he worked closely with and was also the one that connected him with Adolf Hitler. Rosenberg joined the Nazi party in 1919 and Adolf Hitler and other well known Nazis joined soon after. (Jacob,i). Reaction to Castro Announces the Revolution Essay I do not feel that I know enough about Fidel Castro to be an expert on his life or how he ruled Cuba, but the little that I do currently know, I would not consider him a kind and caring man. With that in mind, some of the comments made by Fidel Castro in Castro Announces the Revolution, were shocking to me, since he tries to make the point that he cares for the people of Cuba and the revolution was set into motion for the benefit of the people, not an egotistical leader. At the start of this story, Fidel Castro recalls images from his youth of revolutionaries carrying weapons and demanding that things were done their way. He speaks of the fear of being killed. No army can do more than the people. (342) He comments that the people won the war. Without an army, tanks, planes or heavy guns, the people were ...able to win the battle for liberty. (342) He states that the people were important. The revolution does not serve my interests as a person, nor those of any other commander or captain. The interests the revolution serves are those of the people. (342) The remarks again refer to the revolution being about the people as a whole and not of an egotistical leader. Who was Castro trying to convince of this? Was he trying to convince the people or himself? One of most shocking statements that Fidel makes is, And I want to tell the people and the mothers of Cuba that I will resolve all problems without shedding a drop of blood. (342) Up until this point in time, Castro was surrounded by blood shed. There was plenty of blood shed during the revolution and after Castro was in control of Cuba, his brother, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara oversaw the rounding up and executions of roughly 160 Batista officers (Sweig 39). Digital clocks on their forearm show one chronological year, which begins ticking down at age 25, while they physically stop aging at the same age. When your time expires, you die instantly. In this world, time is the universal currency and everything you do requires and is rewarded with time. There are two primary time zones, based on the wealth, or time owned, of its population. Dayton, which is poor, and New Greenwich, the wealthiest. Will, a 28 year old factory worker from poorer Dayton saves Henry, a time wealthy New Greenwich citizen, from an attempted robbery and murder by a gang called the Minute Men. Once safe, Henry explains to Will the truth behind wealth: there is enough time for everyone to live a long life, but New Greenwich citizens take most of the time and store it so they can be immortal. To ensure their position, wealthier districts raise the cost of living, impoverishing everyone else. Henry states: For a few to be immortal, many must die. Henry gives sleeping Will most of his time, leaving a cryptic note: Don t waste my time. This helps Will finally realizes what Henry meant all along, and was able to understand and comprehend his private language and personal code philosophized as discussed by the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. It is the unfortunate truth that many individual workers have suffered as a result of this prosperity. A collective agreement was made for a political body to help stabilize much of Europe. The Community provided external political structure that would provide the means necessary to create a stable economy and develop technologies, but in order to do so there would need to be a collective identity of Europe. The benefit was that nation states could now have their own domestic economy and still benefit from the advancing international markets that were more accessible. However, economics cannot be viewed as an independent unit. How the market works is inadvertently based on a cultural set of ideals and markets can function differently from state to state. In order to formalize an institution to control the economy new regulations must be set in place. In the sense of the European Community all nations states had to join together to create a set of rules that everyone agreed upon. By abiding by new rules nations in return could expect to benefit from a larger political body. This all sounded very promising, a new and stronger institution would regulate the economy, and provide security for the vulnerable post war nations. In doing so, Europe would create a collective identity, a sense of nationality. Although after the war the idea of a stronger unified economy sounded promising it could also be viewed as a hindrance in the long term. The European Community s goal was to create a unification of the nation states but from the viewpoint of a individual state this could be a loss of independence and identity. Secondly is because there are a few important distinctions to make between the two group sets. First would be the types of skills that fall in each group. Examples of skills that fall within the phonological side are letter sound knowledge and phoneme awareness (Hulme et al. 2012). In discussing phonemes, they can be defined as a unit of sound to distinguish units of meaning or put more simply, the different noises that when put together create words (Fox and Routh 1980). Non phonological skills on the other hand would relate to semantics along with dealing with the definitions and comprehension of words (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). The second is the problems associated within each skill set. When dealing with problems associated with reading, on the phonological side concerns with word decoding may arise if these skills slack (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008). With non phonological skills issues, problems with reading comprehension can occur (Bowyer Crane et al. 2008).
