1920’s presidents
   Himanshu Sharma
• He was the 29th president

• Republicans in Congress easily got the President's signature
    on their bills

• His Administration eliminated wartime controls and slashed
taxes, established a Federal budget system, restored the high
protective tariff, and imposed tight limitations upon
    immigration.
Return to Normalcy

• A return to the way of life before World War I.
• On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president
to make a public radio address to the American people.

• “His great task was to restore the dignity and prestige of
the Presidency when it had reached the lowest ebb in our
history ... in a time of extravagance and waste...." -Alfred E.
    Smith

• Coolidge was both the most negative and remote of
    Presidents, and the most accessible.
The Business of America is
                Business

• The meaning behind this statement is that the one thing
America needed to focus on at the time was business and
    how to expand it.
• Months into his presidency the stock market collapsed.

• He was used as a scapegoat or the depression.

• He was badly defeated in 1932.
"Hoovervilles"

• These were camp like towns built on the outskirts of large
cities. They were built by people effected by the depression.
