Presidential Debates
Television and the purpose of it has changed in a negative way throughout the years. At the
beginning, we took advantage of being able to be a part of the presidential elections and acquire the
facts about what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we've started to look at what the screen is
showing us rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people have begun to
want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and television has helped feed this
desire for the worst. Technology has been changing progressively from the start. Everything about it
ranging from the speed, the design, the size has been replaced with a modernized and immaculate
version. Computers, phones, and televisions all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way they make this possible is to groom and primp their image. Theodore White "thought
that Kennedy benefited because his image on television was "crisp"; Nixon's–– light–colored suit,
wrong makeup, bad posture–– was "fuzzed (Source C)." He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged
the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure
that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in
comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent's character. This
technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year's
presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald Trump once said, "Unstable Hillary
Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country –– and I believe
that so strongly," he then later continued with, " She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've
seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her
know it and she's like an unbalanced person." In this claim he has completely left the topic of what
truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of
this is a battle of image over image. Louis Menand wrote, "Our national politics has become a
competition for images or between images, rather than between ideals (Source C)." This statement
just backs up the idea that we've started to focus on looks rather than

Comparing Adam Savage's Obsession With Fantasy And Science...
Adam Savage was a regular geek growing up. Adam did not have many friends and had an
obsession with movies involving fantasy and science fiction. After receiving an ice cream bucket
from Baskin Robbins and a refrigerator box from a random house in his neighborhood, he made
himself a space helmet and ship. He claims that was how he became the geek that he is today. Later
on in his life him and his father went to go see the movie Excalibur, and after seeing that he made
knight armor just from materials that he had in his home. He then asked his father if he could help
him make an actual knight armor costume for him to wear during Halloween. After several months
of gathering materials and coming up with their own designs, Adam and his father were able to
make the armor of his dreams. He never was able to get a picture of the armor because when he
wore the suit to school on Halloween, he passed out due to heat exhaustion. When he woke up in the
nurse's office, he was no longer wearing his armor and never saw it ... Show more content on

I see people that I met several years ago current day at conventions. There are also celebrities from
movies or television shows that you can pay to meet. I have met some of my favorite actors from
going to conventions. The reason that Adam was invited to Comic Con was because of his show
Myth Busters. Since he recreates many famous scenes from popular movies, the show is something
that many geeky people enjoy watching. I watched the Star Wars special where they tested if things
that happened in the movie would actually work in reality. There is a scene where Luke and Leia are
running away from Stormtroopers and they need to swing to the other side of a room using a
grappling hook. Savage and his partner on the show made a replica of the situation that was in the
movie and tried to see if they could swing from the grappling

Persuasive Speech Essay
I. Introduction:
A. Relate to self and audience: I love story. Matter of facts, I would love to get to know each of you
and listen to your personal stories. Especially, I enjoy listening to struggles–related stories. Every
day, each of us walks to class and acts "normal", though we might carry something deep inside.
Something that is too dark which we cannot let others know. From time to time, we keep carrying
that wound. It hurts us every now and then, but we say nothing.
Transition: For today, I am going to show you mine.
B. Attention Getter: I was bullied for seven years straight. During the first five years, the end of
middle school and entire high school, I was being targeted physically and emotionally. I tried to

Therefore, oxytocin is known as "cardio–protective" as it keeps the heart healthy (Hamilton, 2011).
Transition: What I'm trying to say here is that all of these complicated processes happened because
of giving and receiving kindness. It actually improves the soul of our heart, but also its physical
well–beings.
B. Main point II: Kindness reflects leadership quality because it teaches leader how to lead and take
initiatives.
– Orly Wahba, CEO of Life Vest Inside, once said that a small act of kindness shows that we have a
power to make a change like a leader (TED Talk, 2014). It also demonstrates that we push ourselves
out of our comfort zone and take actions to help others (TED Talk, 2014).
– She emphasizes that our kind actions, big or small, prove that we want to take charge and make
the world become a better place (TED Talk, 2014). And that, in her opinion (also mine), kindness is
such a simple, valuable quality which demonstrates a powerful role, a leader (TED Talk, 2014).
Transition: I want to you take these two points and understand them through my story and my
perception.
Need + Satisfaction + Visualization: Imagine this, you, in my body, wake up and ready to start your
day. However, before you get out of bed, you have to look real quick at social media. Right that
moment, you are flooded with hatred direct messages from people in your past. They call you fake.

Summary Of Susan Cain's Quiet
Susan Cain's Quiet argues for the power of introverts. In her book, introverts are the main subject of
her book. Who are introverts? What makes them different? Those where the main questions I had
while reading this book. In this book Susan Cain tells her experience being an introvert, how she
once puked before a presentation, she also tells the story of other introverts, how they maintained
being introverts in a world filled with extroverts that can do what for introverts seems impossible
without having to think twice about it. Introverts are often mistaken as shy or quiet, mostly because
they keep themselves, they see thing in a different light. Introverts and others often view their
quietness or the way they like to be alone as "a second–class personality trait, somewhere between a

They always try to find a connection to things no matter what. She also compares introverted child
to orchids, orchids are need to be attended to carefully in other to grow to its full limits. When I
think about her opinion on introverts – even though she's one herself – she prescribes them as
scared, and that may not be the message she's trying to get through, but even with the introverts she
describe in the book, they are often hiding, or mimicking the people/environment surrounding them
and don't show who they are until presented with a challenge. I however disagree with this point,
many of the most successful people in our world are introverts ranging from Abraham Lincoln,
Eleanor Roosevelt to Albert Einstein, Bill Gates and Rosa Parks. These are strong spoken respected
people in our society today and while they choose to do thing differently, it doesn't mean there are
not content with who they are, and because she had a different experience with being introverted
doesn't mean the same goes for everyone

Grit Speech
In one of the most watched Ted talk videos, "The Key To Success– Grit," recorded in May 9 2013,
the speaker Angela Lee Duckworth explains how the strongest performers in their fields were
typically not the ones with the highest IQ's, but the ones with the most amount of Grit. What is that?
Angela defines Grit to be the passion and perseverance for a long–term goal and to go through with
it with no quitting. She then goes on and talks about the studies and their results relating to pure Grit
being the answer. Although her her speech is moving and brings hope to those who don't think they
can do much with a low IQ, her reasoning seems to not carry enough evidence. Starting out a school
teacher, Angela Duckworth had a fair ethos, with the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Angela developed a short questionnaire called the "Grit Test". One must answer the short questions
and the results show where you stand on the scale of Grit. She found that the Grit score of someone
predicts the level of the achievement they can have under difficult or challenging circumstances. She
tried this test at the United States Military Academy, where she had the cadets take the short test and
found that the ones who had the highest Grit were the ones who were most likely to go the through
with the stringent training program they went through called the "Beast Barracks". Not the ones with
the highest IQ's, the most talent, or even the most athletic. She tried again in the Scripp's Spelling
Bee, and saw that those who were most intelligent but had a low Grit score were most likely to not
make it as far as those who had a higher score. She declared that those who had higher Grit were
more likely to pass because they studied harder and with determination. In all of those, it seemed
that Grit was the factor that made the students stand out when it came to success, once again proving
high IQ's always being better wrong. Logos is a bit short, as many times in other articles, Grit is
simply a glossed over idea that has been thought of up before. In other places, such as a physics
teacher and his students in a school in Australia, he saw that Grit had little to do with

How to Buy Happiness? A Harvard study conducted across 100 countries found that whether rich or
poor, people who give to charity are happier. Perceived happiness increases, even more, when we
see the impact of our gift has on someone.
––According to Tony Robbins, writer at Robbins Research Organization, Inc.
Michael Norton, the TED Talk speaker, discussed "How to Buy Happiness." Norton is a professor of
business administration at Harvard Business School; he has also studied psychology. Furthermore,
Norton did research on whether spending money on oneself or on others can make a person happy.
According to him, people who spend money on others are happier than those who spend money on
themselves. He wanted to convince his audience that happiness is in sharing or giving to others.
First, he gained the attention of his public by starting his speech with humor. Similarly, he has
conducted various surveys on how two groups of people, who felt differently, spend money on
others like charity or giving gifts from different countries like Uganda and Canada. Although
Norton's attempts at stablishing credibility were somewhat ineffective, his arguments were mostly
effect because of his use of logos and pathos.
Norton's used ethos in his speech but not very effectively. He had a good appearance, he was dressed
simple but at the same time he looked formal. Besides this, he gave an enthusiastic and sincere look.
His tone of voice throughout his speech was friendly and reality–based and he chose simple
vocabulary as well, his body language was clear and bold while interacting with his audience. He
looked credible because he provided evidence, but he did not really stablish himself as an expert of
happiness; he said that he was in a business school but he does not convince his audience that he is
credible in this way.
Michael was successful in convincing his point of view through the use of pathos. His audience was
enjoying his speech because of the touch of humor in his talk. He started his speech with rejecting a
common belief, this was a bit surprising as well as funny at the same time. He explained that "we
see it in religions and self–help books: money can't buy

A Summary Of Living Beyond Limits
Amy Purdy's TED talk, "Living Beyond Limits", empowers people to push past their boundaries.
She encourages people to embrace their differences and obstacles in life that would normally set
them back. Purdy explained that after she had graduated from high school, she moved from a large
desert to somewhere that snowed, and she became a massage therapist. She finally felt in control of
her own life. Unfortunately, this was all for a very short time because one day soon after, she left her
job early because of what she thought was the flu. Realistically, Purdy had contracted bacterial
meningitis, and was soon laying in the hospital on life support. She lost both of her legs from the
knee down, hearing in her left ear, and both of her kidneys. After she healed, she tried on a new pair
prosthetic legs, and she grew frustrated and immediately felt as though her life would be restricted
and confined forever, that her new legs would impact her life in a very negative way. After a few
months of moping and feeling sorry for herself, she started to view her position in a new light. She
decided she must embrace her new legs, and learn how to work with them, instead of working
against them. She found many benefits to having prosthetic legs, and it made her realize that her
legs weren't a curse. After realizing all of the positives, Purdy was able to continue with her life, and
as time went on, she overcame even more obstacle by staying positive. Four months after Purdy's
health scare,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Tuesdays With Morrie
Tuesdays with Morrie – Rhetorical Analysis
Mitch Albom described in the book did not resemble the Mitch Albom in the movie production.
American author and sports columnist Mitch Albom in his memoir from Tuesdays with Morrie
(1997) records his weekly conferences with his old, diseased professor for his final thesis about life.
He develops his tear–jerking chronicle by first describing Morrie before Lou Gehrig's disease, then
addressing his new lifestyle with the disease, then listing their discussion topics in chapter title form,
and finally recounting how Morrie's wise words have impacted the way Mitch lives and encounters
life. Albom's purpose is to raise money and awareness of the disease in order to pay for Morrie's
medical bills. He establishes a buoyant tone for the general public. However, although this memoir
to a man's favorite professor is a success and a best–seller, no book is complete without a movie, in
Hollywood. In 1999, talk–show host Oprah Winfrey produced a film dedicated to the narrative
written by Albom. However, this film did not closely resemble the memoir for entertainment
reasons. Mitch is not completely portrayed correctly; the film would be boring if the story was
identical.
Tuesdays with Morrie as a memoir simply shines light on how Morrie Schwartz impacted a former
student's life beneficially. Mitch is a young man whose life had blossomed to be fairly average. He
is a married man and a journalist. Though he had not hit rock–bottom, he also

A Life Well Lived In The Film Stranger Than Fiction
A life well lived is like an intricate frosted sugar cookie; a simple, yet easily mistaken recipe. A life
well lived means that you had an adventurous, fulfilling, and worthwhile life, with family and
friends that supported you through everything. A common regret most people have as they age is
that they "lost time," doing things they did not truly want to do. As a young person, I do not have
much experience, but I do know that I would much rather be traveling and enjoying time with
family and friends over struggling in school and taking three tests a week. At the end of my life, I
want to say that I had fun and that I travelled and explored places I never knew existed, and to have
a loving husband and family. I want to learn new things and ... Show more content on

In the story about Hamlet, it is shown that he over thinks and questions everything instead of just
doing. Every person should have a piece of Hamlet in them, to provide a little bit of protection.
Before doing something, hesitation and nervousness sometimes creep in, and that's okay. Everyone
needs to keep a sharp mentality that actions can affect the rest of their life, and they must realize that
actions can either harm or help their future selves. Hamlet is a great story to learn about because it
can be interpreted in different ways – either Hamlet was a fool and wasted his life overthinking
about every single thing, or Hamlet was a tragic hero because he thought about the consequences
before doing something but lived his life living with regret. We can all take a piece of Hamlet and
keep ourselves alert to what our actions can bring. Before taking the leap, take a step back and
breathe, think it all out – it will be a smarter choice and you will thank yourself for being a little
hesitant. The story of Hamlet is to prove that you cannot sit by and watch life pass you, but to also
think about the consequences and that actions speak louder than

Analysis Of Brene Brown 'The Power Of Vulnerability'
Brene Brown, a researcher in social interactions, takes an unexpected perspective in her ted talk
called "The Power of Vulnerability". She starts out her speech by telling a joke and explaining her
education and experience in social work. A quote her professor put on the board led her to research
the connection among people. However, this led to many other things such as shame, fear, and the
most prominent factor, vulnerability. She realized that for connection to occur we must be seen
completely for who we are. This led to 6 years of research, including hundreds of stories and
thousands of pieces of data. Brown wrote a book about her findings but she felt that something was
still missing. It turned out the missing component was worthiness. To delve deeper into worthiness,
she did a study on people who think they are worthy and people who don't. People who thought they
were worthy had these four things in common, courage, compassion, connection, and vulnerability.
Brown realized at this point that she needed to understand vulnerability thoroughly by facing it
herself. A therapist helped brown face vulnerability head on for a year straight, and in the end, she
potentially won her life back. Brown stated "...vulnerability is the core of shame, of fear and of
worthiness, but it is also the birthplace of joy, of creativity, of belonging, of love..." After facing her
fear, she knew that vulnerability was the core of not only fear, but also happiness. Brown goes on to
say that we

Examples Of Rapport And Empathy
Angelica Lai – Discussion #2: Empathy and Rapport Building rapport and empathy with clients is
extremely important no matter what the job is. As mentioned throughout this module, empathy and
rapport fuel the relationship between people. My previous work experience includes working at a
movie theatre and hospital security. Both jobs required rapport and empathy as these jobs required
serving the public. However, even though the jobs itself were different, both had the same
underlying task, which is working with people. Working at the movie theatre, it is directed to more
of a customer service job, where often the guests get upset over issues we as the employee do not
understand. I found once you put their issues in front of your own personal ... Show more content on

I found if I focus on the interpersonal aspect of the relationship, I can build and maintain positive
working relationships. However, this is not the only skills that are important. It is important to
showcase characteristics, or attributes like trust, respect, humour, and integrity. After reading the
content in Module 2, I have seen skills I use, but also new skills I am going to incorporate. One
suggestions I am going to incorporate is the acronym E.M.P.A.T.H.Y. from the Ted Talk by Helen
Riess (2013). The reason being that, this is an easy acronym to remember and apply when building
both rapport and empathy. I will need to practice this for a while, but as soon as I get it right, it will
be an easy guideline to help build that connection with others. Another skill, which was explained in
this module was the power of powerless communication from the Ted Talk by Adam Grant (2013).
In a security position it is often explained to talk with assertiveness, but sometimes this backfires as
the client becomes more aggressive. By applying the concepts of tentative talking, it may help build
that rapport and empathy as it shows a more humanistic side. I think it is important that we show our
humanistic side, as many individuals just see the uniform and not the person wearing it. By applying
these skills, I

What Is Tuesday's With Morrie By Mitch Albom
Why me? What did I do to deserve this? Cries of despair by self–righteous, egotistical(for that

it is that we love one another, and that if we fail to, we too will fail. "You are not a wave you
are part of the ocean", this aphorism expresses how Morrie felt in the spiritual sense, he realized that

people do have so many regrets and things they wish they would have done, they live a life their not
satisfied with because they think they have too, focusing on materialistic things, money, cars,

happiness, which comes from things such as love, knowledge etc.

Reflection Paper On Ted Talk
For this assignment, I chose to watch a Ted Talk that focused on the importance of understanding
differences. It is entitled Love No Matter What and is the culmination of years of research done by
Andrew Solomon. I chose this Ted Talk because I thought it would be interesting to hear about
different lived experiences that people have endured. One of the huge ideas I have learned
throughout this leadership course and all our topics and conversation is that we all have different
lived experiences. It is our lived experiences that make us special and individual. Love No Matter
What focused on this essential idea and how important differences are. The topic of this Ted Talk
completely reflects what has been said in our leadership class as well as what I think a student leader
at Western Oregon University should be. Solomon's talk is centered around the relationship of
parents and children and accepting and loving children, but the ideas expressed in his talk can be
applied to any human relationship. I believe Western is a university that deeply prides itself in its
student diversity and acceptedness of said diversity. The Western that I know, and love, understands
the true necessity of diversity and wishes to be accepting of diversity in all of its forms. To me,
listening to this Ted Talk was very emotional and personal. I have been incredible blessed with
parents in my life that love and accept me the way I am. However, I have not, or at least not much,

Review Of Edward E. Jones And Keith E
After reading Edward E. Jones and Keith E. Davis' essay: "From Acts to Dispositions: The
Attribution Process in Person Perception", and watching Dan Gilbert's Ted talks, I came across a
few ideas that I've never thought of before, and in addition to that, I acquired new insights from
them, most especially Gilbert's Ted talks. I also found relating themes between Jones and Davis'
essay and Gilbert's Ted talk: "The surprising science of happiness" (2004), "Why we make bad
decisions" (2005) and "The psychology of your future self " (2014). The themes or keynote that I
think stood out were our actions as humans, our perceptions, our decisions, and how these things
affect us.
Reflection on Dan Gilbert's Ted talks:
Before we watched Gilbert's Ted talks, my expectation was that they were going to be more focused
on scientific, or just psychological studies, or something in that range of thought. However, there
were more to the talks than I deemed it would be, because the talks had psychologic aspects to it,
but it was framed around issues, or ideas that I see to be more on the social part of things that we do,
and real question: "Why do humans or people even do this?" To simplify what I mean to say–most
of the themes in the talks, to me, seem to be challenging us socially. In other words, it makes us
think about ideas in a whole new way. For example, "The
surprising science of happiness" seems to be targeting our egos as humans. The way Gilbert does
that is by bringing up a new

Morrie Short Story Summary
The primary story arc takes place over the course of 14 weeks in the late summer and fall of 1995,
beginning when the narrator Mitch discovers that Morrie, his beloved sociology professor from
college, is dying from ALS. When Mitch's newspaper union strikes, putting him out of work for an
extended period, Mitch travels each week on Tuesday from his home in Detroit to Morrie's home
outside Boston for what he calls his final class with Morrie. His final thesis is the full, completed
book.
Morrie grew up in New York and his family was very poor. When he was nine, his mother fell ill
and died, which haunted Morrie throughout the rest of his life. His father, Charlie, was not an
affectionate man, and Morrie struggled through the next two years until his father remarried. Eva,
his stepmother, was kind and loving. She gave Morrie both the love he so desperately desired, and
instilled in him a love for education. After a failed attempt by Morrie's father to get him a job in a
fur factory, Morrie decided to become a teacher.
At the beginning of each chapter, Mitch shares the story of his relationship with Morrie during his
college days. Mitch began college in 1976 at Brandeis University, and met Morrie in his first
sociology class. Mitch was one of the youngest students, which he compensated for by acting very
tough. Morrie, however, treated him with compassion and kindness, and the two developed a very
trusting teacher/student relationship. Morrie convinced Mitch to write an

What has nature ever done for us?: Chapters 3,4,&5
Chapter 3:
Plants and animals are very important to human life. Plants and animals developed natural forms of
protection against biological attacks. Unfortunately, when we modify plants some can't fulfill their
normal duties. We need to keep our plant and animal life as pure and natural as possible.
Chapter 4:
In this chapter the author stresses the importance of creatures that pollinate such as insects, birds,
bats, and bees. Bees are the primary source of pollination for much of our plant life. Without bees
we wouldn't have plants and the dropping numbers of the bee population is negatively affecting our
food production.
Chapter 5:
This chapter starts off talking about the drop of numbers of vultures in India. Most of which became
extinct. This was due to a new anti–inflammatory drug that was given to sick animals.
Vultures eat dead carcasses which was a good thing for everyone. After the vultures fed on the
bodies of other animals that had been given this drug they died. Without vultures, the bodies of the
animals were buried or burned. Not to mention that the bodies of the dead animals sitting in the sun
was a public health hazard. When the population of vultures disappeared, the population of feral
dogs increased. This was a bad thing. This brought on multiple diseases with one of them being
rabies. Noted in the chapter ( 47,395–48,886 additional deaths from rabies). Ultimately,

Summary Of Robert Fischell Speech
Robert Fischell is an inventor of medical devices. His goal is to educate the audience with an
informative speech about his three inventions that he believes can have a significant positive effect
on millions of people. The first invention he describes consists of a device implanted into a patient
to detect acute myocardial infection (AMI). The second invention is a device that helps eliminate
migraine headaches. The third invention details the best way to treat epilepsy through a responsive
electrical treatment. Robert Fischell delivered the speech in acceptance of his 2005 TED award in an
official conference. His credibility cannot be doubted as he is the inventor of other well–known
medical devices such as, the rechargeable pacemaker, the insulin pump, and a pre–cursor to GPS.
The speaker's fascinating inventive capability, and determination to make the world a better place,
adds to his credibility. The TED conference consisted of approximately a thousand people from
different fields such as technology, design, business, science, entertainment, as well as the non–
profit world. The audience is not only limited to the live audience as millions of people can access
the 26:46 minute speech through the internet and mass media. The speaker used a hook effectively
to draw the audience into the speech. He starts by noting that the speech is aimed at discussing the
invention that can have an impact on ten to a hundred million people. With such a remarkable
statement, everyone would be interested to know the details of his inventions. At the same time, he
mentions his previous inventions, stents, and insulin pumps for the diabetic, which he discussed in
the prior film. This creates trust among the audience about the speaker's credibility. The speech's
opening fully establishes the intention of the presentation.
Speech Content and Structure

Tuesdays With Carrie Theme
A wise old, sick man once said, "Because if you've found meaning in your life, you don't want to go
back. You want to go forward." This man is the late Morrie Schwartz, a former college professor at
Brandeis University. In his mid– 70s, Morrie was diagnosed with the dreaded disease of ALS, better
known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Every few Tuesdays, Mitch Albom, a sportswriter and now a well–
known author, would go to his old professor's house and talk about life. The book, Tuesdays with
Morrie, is a documentary of every Tuesday spent with him. Throughout the book, many themes
were exhibited in the page. A few of those themes include love, life and death, and the rejection of
culture. With each week going by with Mitch, Morrie displays those themes. The first theme shown
repeatedly through the novel, is love. Love is a word that many of us dream to have one day. Some
are destined to find the one, and some are meant to be on their own. A few have trouble finding love
for others, and won't let it come out of them. To Mitch, Morrie said one thing about love that really
meant a lot – "The most important thing in life is to learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Morrie died in 1996, but his soul still lived in the 60s. He would go to dance clubs and play his own
type of music, and didn't believe in work or electronics. In one case, he was at a basketball game,
and everyone was chanting, "WE ARE NUMBER ONE!" Morrie decided to yell, "What's wrong
with being number two (159)?" They all looked at him like he was crazy, and in a way, he sort of
was. Another case was during the war, when he decided to give all of his students As so they would

Reflection Paper On TED Talk
TED Talk Summative Reflection The beginning of a presentation is what must grab the audience's
attention and tell them what's about to happen. I think I succeeded in informing my audience, but
definitely could have improved the interest factor of my video. My introduction is a simple title
animation going into my presentation, and my introduction is a very basic overview of what my
presentation will be covering. Looking back on the example given and at other students' videos, I
realize some music and a hook could have been very helpful. A hook is especially important because
it gets the audience excited for what's coming, and I notice now that my opening lines are pretty
tame. Of course, I find it interesting, but my audience has not seen the video, so they ... Show more

So, I used some funny images and some informative ones, and I'm not sure if that was the best
choice. Perhaps higher quality images that backed up my points, even if there were fewer of them,
would have been the better choice. I think my visual aids complimented my audio component, but
they could have been more in depth representations of my talking points as a whole. Finally, it
comes to my oral presentation skills. I would say I have average ability to communicate orally,
which I hoped to improve by splitting up my speech into different sections. I recorded each of these
separately, sometimes recording seven or eight takes, for the sake of cutting out most stumbles and
producing the best quality video I could. However, I think I still could have improved. There a few
mistakes which I left in, and could have redone if I'd had better time management skills. I was
unsure about how expressive to be, as my video was half me talking and half narration. I tried to be
reserved and easy to understand, but I think going bigger and being more animated would have
helped keep my video interesting and fun to watch. Re–watching myself speak made me realize that

Tuesdays With Morrie Thesis Statement
Mitch Albom is a an American Journalist who has written many books of the course of his career.
His first well selling book he wrote was Tuesdays with Morrie, a story about him reconnecting with
his old college professor for one final lesson, his own death by Lou Gehrig's disease, more
commonly known as ALS. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that causes deterioration of nerve
cells, and there is no known cure. They talk about Morrie's life leading up to the diagnosis, and how
his life was affected by it forever. Mr. Albom refers to ALS as a lit candle, slowly progressing
throughout the whole body of the candle. Tuesdays with Morrie shows that our culture is wrapped
up in our own selves that we rarely take the time to care for others until ... Show more content on

As Morrie's date grew more tangible, Morrie began to become more wise and more open to the
world, and more self–reflecting on how he had acted over the years of his life. This usually happens
to many people, but sadly, not all people get wiser with age. Many stories have this type of plot line,
where someone wakes up to the world around them, and they get smarter. That was even the plot
line for The Matrix movie series. But in Morrie's case, he wasn't the one who was waking up, it was
the people around him waking up to Morrie dying, that Morrie wouldn't die because of old age, but
of a disease that has no cure. The people around him started to realize how fragile the human
existence is compared to the universe, because it will carry on no matter who you are. Most people
think that they are invincible, that nothing can take them out, but something simple that's not even
alive like a virus can kill you, it shows how easy it is to die. Morrie did talk about humanity's fragile
existence once in the book, talking about the Yugoslavian Civil War, "The other night, on TV, I saw
people in Bosnia running across the street, getting fired upon, killed, innocent victims ... and I just
started to cry. I could feel their anguish as if was my own." Morrie did not know any of those people
who were killed in the conflict,

Three Things I Learned From Cameron Russell's TED Talk
Looks aren't Everything. Believe Me, I am a Model
1. Three things I learned from Cameron Russell's TED Talk is that looks are deceiving, people still
judge based on someone's skin color or beauty, and how even if someone looks like the most
confident, pretty, rich, or happy person out there, that may not always the case. Additionally, from
the speaker's five main points, the first main point, "how do you become a model?" illustrates being
named a "model" is something very difficult to become because today's society is very judgmental.
However, from Cameron's second main point, "can I be a model when I grow up?" explains that
becoming a model is like winning the lottery, very rare and hard to get. From the presenter's third
main point, "do they retouch all the photos?" explains that what everyone sees on TV, magazines, or
social media are not real and that they are all retouched. The fourth main point that Russell goes
over, "do you get free stuff?" talks about how being or looking a specific way has its advantages that
others would not get away with. The fifth and last main point, she goes over is "what is it like to be a
model?" She explains that being a model is not all fun and games and it have its ... Show more

this action caused him to accomplish assignments in a poor manner. To conclude, all in all, Tim

The three that benefited the presentation the most would be the use of personification, similes, and
alliteration. The strongest literary device was personification and that was pretty much the point of
the whole speech. That animals have human like characteristics and animals were capable of
thinking and feeling. Safina gave all the animals the 'human' traits that they deserve. In this oral
essay, he proved to the audience that animals could do everything humans do and there was no
difference between the two. He stated that "they even have the same skeleton as us" (Safina, Carl.
"What are animals thinking and feeling?" Carl Safina: What are animals thinking and feeling? | TED

he frequently used was similes, Or, a comparison using like or as. One of the most powerful similes
that he used was "our brain is as big as a chimpanzee." (Safina, Carl. "What are animals thinking
and feeling?" Carl Safina: What are animals thinking and feeling? | TED Talk | TED.com. N.p., n.d.

think about and know what he was talking about. We often think of ourselves as at the top of the
animal kingdom. We are the ones in power. But this comparison made the audience rethink that as

Commentary On The Book Tuesdays With Morrie
I read Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Album. As some general background knowledge, Morrie was
Mitch's teacher in sociology at Brandeis University. Mitch planned on being a pianist but ended up
not succeeding and having to go into journalism. Several years later Morrie who has ALS ends up
being on Nightline with Ted Koppel. As Mitch is going through the channels he sees his teacher, and
goes back to watch. Conflicted with the idea that his teacher has ALS and he hasn't seen him in quite
some time Mitch decided to visit Morrie. Mitch and Morrie meet every Tuesday and call each other
"Tuesday people". Morrie sharing his thoughts and life lessons, bring Mitch back to the way he was
before. Morrie while talking with Mitch on Tuesdays reminds Mitch that having the most money, or
the biggest car isn't going to further you in life. Morrie while bringing wisdom and knowledge into
Mitch's life also shows him how having a teacher student bond like this is one not that can be
replaced. After reading this book you can conclude that Mitch has more knowledge and
understanding after talking to Morrie on Tuesdays.
Mitch was very different after he left college and before he started to meet with Morrie on Tuesdays.

slow down for us to pick and choose our own time and place for everything. We need to take things

as ignorant as you were are twenty two." "Aging isn't just decay, you know. It's growth." As you get

An Example Of Personal Listening
Listening is one of the most important processes in any sphere of life, such as business, education
and relationships. Listening is more than just hearing voices and noise, listening means
concentrating, giving attention to someone talking, be open minded, attending in the discussion
(Schilling, par.3), and understanding what the person is actually interpreting, using body expression
and words (Giang, par.1). These skills are required for success and a good life. They give the
solution of conflicts and difficulties, develop correctness, guarantee comprehension and create
reliable relationships (Schilling, par.1). Considering all this, it will be presented an example of
someone's listening skills by an observation and an analysis and the ways of improvement of my
personal listening skills.

I observed the negotiation from an outside angle for about half an hour at my uncle's office. During
the discussion, I absorbed if the customer was a good listener. I tried to figure out his bad and good
habits in his listening skills regarding the information I learned in class and the material I read.
During my observation, I noticed a few things which I considered as important for a successful
business and working time, such as their suitable clothes and professional standing. In the
beginning, the customer appeared as a good listener. As Dianne Schilling said, facing the person
talking, having eye contact with him and keeping an open mind are important habits for an effective
listening (par.2, 4). Most of the time, the customer faced my uncle and had eye contact with him
showing the good habits of a listener. Indeed as Vivian Giang said, knowing and following what the
other person is saying considering the verbal and nonverbal indications has a huge impact in
effective listening (par.1, 14, 15). The customer did follow my uncle while talking, but there were a
few cases he felt lost in the discussion. The reason, he felt lost, was that

describes how hiding your true self can be a way of gaining acceptance and fitting in either in your
social circle or at work. She states hiding is a continuous habit that becomes harder to break and will
make it terrifying to step forward and reveal your true self. For her, coming from a conservative
town in Kansas made it difficult to reveal her true self of being a lesbian and fear of not being
accepted. She states she did not want to be defined as a "lesbian" but wanted to just be known as

Mr. Anchor points out how tests are measured to conform to the average person. He states that if you
go above the norm your brain function changes and it will increase its goalpost. For example, he
points out that if you get good grades you will strive to get better grades and if you get a good job
you will then want to get a better job and so on. He states that at that point the level of happiness is
pushed to the opposite side of success and they won't ever meet. As a society we've trained
ourselves to think that success will determine our happiness. We need to develop our brains to be
positive in the present and it will increase our intelligence, creativity and energy levels. It will help
employees perform better and be more productive. When brains are feeling negative a person's
performance is less and they feel stressed or neutral. He states we need to retrain our brains to be
positive now. He conducted a study in a company he worked for in which he had the employees
write down three new things they were thankful for everyday for 21 days. He states that at the end of
that study, the employees had rewired their brains to look at the world and find the positive first
before pointing out the negative. He found that random acts of kindness will improve the positive

What I Know Now From My Studies And Research Of Eq
By comparing what I know now from my studies and research of EQ, I acknowledge several areas
of opportunity for EQ improvement including:
Self–Awareness: I was not as self–aware as I could have been. I didn't recognize or acknowledge my
emotions and how they may have impacted my thoughts and actions. Several factors related to both
work and home contributed to my diminished self–confidence. I was also self–absorbed and showed
low self–esteem by taking on total blame for the outcome. It may be true that I might have been
more influential with my boss if I had been more self–assured. I thought at the time I presented my
case with authority, but perhaps my thoughts and body language didn't portray that confidence.
Regardless, I know that my role in these situations is to make recommendations; his role is to make
the final decision. I do believe, however, that in general I will have more influence the more
confident I am. Following the end of the 681 Traverse City class, I watched Amy Cuddy's Ted Talk
on "presence". She states that if you project self–assurance, even if you're not feeling it, you will be
more credible and influential with others. The old saying, "fake it until you make it" is true. They
will buy your act.
Self–assessment: I also didn't make an accurate self–assessment of my limits. I was burned out at
work and home, and didn't take needed time away to refresh and refill my reservoir. Ironically, I
often recognize when our managers and staff are exhibiting

Reflection Paper On Perseverance
Research Reflection
Before I began researching I was really passionate about the ability to persevere and I knew I
wanted to talk about perseverance and explain why it was such an essential characteristic to have. I
especially wanted to find examples of many others that had to persevere to get through their own
tough times. But when I originally started researching my topic I did not exactly have anything in
mind about what I was exactly looking for. This was mainly due to that I had the ideas in my head
but did not know how to put those in a way that I could deliver it for the whole class to understand.
So as I began researching I focused on just using perseverance in school, like not giving up after not
getting a concept the first time. But after looking through a few articles I found many examples of
when perseverance was used in other ways, such as building things for society or ways in which one
can be successful. This then broadened my perspective on perseverance and showed me the benefits
of it.
The "Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance." Ted Talk video was extremely helpful for my
research since it gave me numerous amounts of examples of how the main thing that distinguishes
kids for who they are is perseverance. I found out that one's intelligence quality is not determined by
their test scores, but rather it is determined by how they improve on making those test scores the
best they can be. Most of the things in the Ted Talk I had heard about before or

Self Esteem Leads To Success
How Self–Esteem Leads to Success
"The strongest factor for success is self–esteem: Believing you can do it, believing you deserve it,
believing you can get it." by anonymous. Self–esteem is the key to success because without
confidence you lose faith in yourself. Too much confidence can affect your way to success also.
Success is being comfortable with who you are.
According to Meaghan Ramsey in her TED talk "Why thinking you're ugly is bad for you" she states
that "About six out of ten girls are now choosing not to (do the activities that they like) because they
don't think they look good enough". If girls are choosing to give up on what they are good at
because of their appearance, they might think their whole life they are not good enough for any of
their favorite activities, or even what they always dreamed being in the future when they were
younger. She next claims that "Thirty–one percent, nearly one in three teenagers are withdrawing
from classroom debate. They're failing to engage in classroom debate because they don't want to
draw attention to the way they look." Teens are now being afraid of participating in class because of
what they think that other people judge them. Students shouldn't be failing a class because of how
they look, or what other people think about them. Students should be proud to know the answer to a
question and be able to raise their hand without being afraid. This shows how self–esteem affects
your way to success.

Social Media And Its Impact On Writing And Receiving...
Part A: Email /Text Problems
The current technological age that uses the social media has led various problems in writing and
receiving emails/texts. The biggest problem is not getting any part of a message from the text or
email; understanding of the message is the greatest problem. This can be attributed to the receiving
of incomprehensible and poorly arranged words and messages. The problem of using slang in

Examples of components made using this process include gears and bearings (Kaushish, 2008).
The steps involved in powder metallurgy include production of powders, powder mixing,
compaction, sintering and finally secondary operations. Powder production is the first step, and it
involves the application of different methods (such as grinding or atomization) to obtain powders
from metals or non–metals. The powder's chemical composition, size and shape are analyzed
(Kaushish, 2008). Powders are usually potential hazards, such as being flammable, and thus they
should be handled with safety precaution.
Mixing of powders usually involves the addition of alloying elements, pressing lubricant, binders,
and other substances. The uniform distribution of the particles is emphasized in order to obtain a
processed part with uniform density. Compaction involves forming the mixed powder into a
compact of desirable shape and size. Whereby, the powder is pressed in a rigid enclosure which

to a temperature below the melting point of the major constituent. The secondary operations are
finally used to obtain a good finish.
Conclusively, powder metallurgy is a crucial manufacturing process that enables the production of

The 's Secret Model By Cameron Russell
Victoria 's Secret Model, Cameron Russell, delivered one of the most profound TED Talks delivered
on the Mid Atlantic stage, according to TED writer Cameron Gallo. The model explains that though
the modeling industry considered her a perfect, she does not believe her appearance defines her.
Thus she came up with the title for her speech, "Looks Aren 't Everything... Believe Me, I 'm a
Model.". She specifically addresses that children need to understand that modeling does not
constitute a glamorous career. The industry drowns out personal values, views, and appearances to
warp these characteristics into a general image accepted by the masses, according to Russell. She
describes her view on modeling, and how it essentially made her feel like a hard shell of a person
with no inner value. She ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward
appearance and inner beauty.
"Looks Aren 't Everything.... Believe Me, I 'm a Model" is categorized as TED talk. These "talks"
are powered by nonprofit organizations dedicated to spreading ideas, in the form of speeches,
demonstrations, and videos. Richard Saul Wormac, describes the talks as "observations and
recognition of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design"

College Pressures In College Students
Youth experience college differently due to their foundations. Through many forms of
communication, we have become conscious of the difficulties college students encounter because of
pressures that intervene amidst their equanimity and education. The Ted talk "Bring on the learning
revolution!" presented by Sir Ken Robinson, a well–received speaker of TED and the essay "College
Pressures" by William Zinsser, a journalist, portray the crisis students are undoubtedly undergoing.
While they executed their main points through the means of distinct genres, their ideas complement
each other when discussing the real–life experiences students have in college. Whether it be
economic, parental, peer, and or self–induced pressures demonstrated to affect students (in the
author's works), they don't seem overwhelming until one confronts them. Both texts contained the
emphasis that pressures, among causing temporary frustrations can also lead to adverse life–
changing effects. Being in college, I have witnessed the dismayed faces of students run into the wall
of confusion, dissatisfaction, and demotivation with the way their education is unfolding. I have run
into the same wall too, myself, and then only understood the degree of uneasiness that situates other
scholars in the state of mental devastation. The propositions presented by the writers have potential
to inform and help outreach their audience (mostly students) to pursue a career that they're
passionate about.

Americans have many choices, and it is such a part of our daily lives that we don't even realize it.
Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar's TED talks bring up interesting ideas about choice, how people
deal with them and their affects. They both state that although choice is good, it can also have
negative effects. Schwartz explains what most people believe and experience with choice, while
Iyengar shows cultural differences in choice making. Both Schwartz and Iyengar ... Show more

The second is the more choices the more likely that the best choice can be made, and the third
assumption is that you should never say no to choice. Iyengard evaluates these three assumptions
with various studies where one group is American and the other is another culture. Her studies help
understand why and how Americans make choices in comparison to the rest of the world. Without
doubt, Iyengard's studies and analysis on choice is interesting but Schwartz's was clearer because it
easily communicated the message that was more applicable to the public. Choices are an important
part of everyone's lives and the choices we make can reflex who we are as individuals. Choice and
the ability to choose are excellent and can represent a sense of freedom. Schwartz's and Iyengard's
analysis on choice focused on the effects of choice in people and how people react and deal with it.
Schwartz's Official Dogma and explanation of how Americans act in response to choice making is
the most relatable to individuals and clearly chows the consequences of too much choice. His
analysis can assist to people realize that maybe because we have more choice doesn't necessarily
mean we will make us happier or the best decision will be made. Understanding the consequences of
too much choice can possibly make individuals improve the negative effects it can have and make
us happier with our

The Definition Of The Art And Science Of Nursing
The Art and Science of Nursing Nursing is art and science, carried out by nurses of all ages and
backgrounds who all bring their own personal and professional experience and beliefs. The nursing
profession was built on a foundation of art and science and both must be embraced. I will be
explaining my definition of the concepts of the art and the science of nursing and the aspect that
drew me into the profession personally. Two TED talks will also be discussed about what I feel are
their common themes and how those themes relate to nursing.
The Art of Nursing The art of nursing is the compassion and care nurses put into their care daily
with the major focus being the patient. It is therapeutic communication that conveys the message
with respect, empathy, and understanding. It is being a strong advocate, compassionate care giver
and a great listener. The art of nursing also means to be aware. Knowing when your patient needs
something without them having to verbally express those needs, including both physical and
emotional needs. In my daily practice, I exhibit the use of the art of nursing by genuinely caring for
my patients, not only administering medications, and performing other scheduled tasks, but taking
the time to get to know them. I strive to learn at least one thing about each patient I care for that has
nothing to do with their illness. Taking care of a patient's emotional needs is as important as caring
for their physical needs.

Analysis Of The Story 'Tuesdays With Morrie'
Morrie Schwartz: Inspiration, Mentor, Teacher
"Well the truth is, if you really listen to that bird on your shoulder, if you accept that you can die at
any time, then you might not be as ambitious as you are" (Albom, 83) is a quote stated by the
protagonist who's body is decaying due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and has come to terms
with his disease and upcoming death. In the story "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom, the
protagonist impacts people's outlook on their lives. Morrie Schwartz, a sociology professor who
developed ALS, feels the need to share his words of wisdom on the meaning of life through taking
pride in the way he has lived, making use of his experiences, and being optimistic about his
upcoming death.
Morrie is an inspiration for many as he takes pride in the way he lived his life. As one grows, they
learn more. People often wish they could go back to a certain age, however Morrie has a different
understanding of this: "If you stayed as ignorant as you were at twenty– two, you'd always be
twenty–two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth" (Albom, 118). Young people suffer real
miseries, but they do not have the wisdom of age to deal with them and if they were to wish for
youth, it would indicate dissatisfaction in their life. Morrie explains how by enjoying the present and
not wanting the past, he was able to take pride in the decisions he had made. On the topic of trust, he
feels that trusting blindly is the key to a good relationship; he

Presidential Debates

  • 1. Presidential Debates Television and the purpose of it has changed in a negative way throughout the years. At the beginning, we took advantage of being able to be a part of the presidential elections and acquire the facts about what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we've started to look at what the screen is showing us rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people have begun to want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and television has helped feed this desire for the worst. Technology has been changing progressively from the start. Everything about it ranging from the speed, the design, the size has been replaced with a modernized and immaculate version. Computers, phones, and televisions all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first way they make this possible is to groom and primp their image. Theodore White "thought that Kennedy benefited because his image on television was "crisp"; Nixon's–– light–colored suit, wrong makeup, bad posture–– was "fuzzed (Source C)." He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent's character. This technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year's presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald Trump once said, "Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country –– and I believe that so strongly," he then later continued with, " She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her know it and she's like an unbalanced person." In this claim he has completely left the topic of what truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image. Louis Menand wrote, "Our national politics has become a competition for images or between images, rather than between ideals (Source C)." This statement just backs up the idea that we've started to focus on looks rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Comparing Adam Savage's Obsession With Fantasy And Science... Adam Savage was a regular geek growing up. Adam did not have many friends and had an obsession with movies involving fantasy and science fiction. After receiving an ice cream bucket from Baskin Robbins and a refrigerator box from a random house in his neighborhood, he made himself a space helmet and ship. He claims that was how he became the geek that he is today. Later on in his life him and his father went to go see the movie Excalibur, and after seeing that he made knight armor just from materials that he had in his home. He then asked his father if he could help him make an actual knight armor costume for him to wear during Halloween. After several months of gathering materials and coming up with their own designs, Adam and his father were able to make the armor of his dreams. He never was able to get a picture of the armor because when he wore the suit to school on Halloween, he passed out due to heat exhaustion. When he woke up in the nurse's office, he was no longer wearing his armor and never saw it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I see people that I met several years ago current day at conventions. There are also celebrities from movies or television shows that you can pay to meet. I have met some of my favorite actors from going to conventions. The reason that Adam was invited to Comic Con was because of his show Myth Busters. Since he recreates many famous scenes from popular movies, the show is something that many geeky people enjoy watching. I watched the Star Wars special where they tested if things that happened in the movie would actually work in reality. There is a scene where Luke and Leia are running away from Stormtroopers and they need to swing to the other side of a room using a grappling hook. Savage and his partner on the show made a replica of the situation that was in the movie and tried to see if they could swing from the grappling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Especially, I enjoy listening to struggles–related stories. Every day, each of us walks to class and acts "normal", though we might carry something deep inside. Something that is too dark which we cannot let others know. From time to time, we keep carrying that wound. It hurts us every now and then, but we say nothing. Transition: What I'm trying to say here is that all of these complicated processes happened because of giving and receiving kindness. It actually improves the soul of our heart, but also its physical well–beings. B. Main point II: Kindness reflects leadership quality because it teaches leader how to lead and take initiatives. – Orly Wahba, CEO of Life Vest Inside, once said that a small act of kindness shows that we have a power to make a change like a leader (TED Talk, 2014). It also demonstrates that we push ourselves out of our comfort zone and take actions to help others (TED Talk, 2014). – She emphasizes that our kind actions, big or small, prove that we want to take charge and make the world become a better place (TED Talk, 2014). And that, in her opinion (also mine), kindness is such a simple, valuable quality which demonstrates a powerful role, a leader (TED Talk, 2014). Transition: I want to you take these two points and understand them through my story and my perception. Need + Satisfaction + Visualization: Imagine this, you, in my body, wake up and ready to start your day. However, before you get out of bed, you have to look real quick at social media. I however disagree with this point, many of the most successful people in our world are introverts ranging from Abraham Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt to Albert Einstein, Bill Gates and Rosa Parks. • 9. Grit Speech In one of the most watched Ted talk videos, "The Key To Success– Grit," recorded in May 9 2013, the speaker Angela Lee Duckworth explains how the strongest performers in their fields were typically not the ones with the highest IQ's, but the ones with the most amount of Grit. What is that? Angela defines Grit to be the passion and perseverance for a long–term goal and to go through with it with no quitting. She then goes on and talks about the studies and their results relating to pure Grit being the answer. One must answer the short questions and the results show where you stand on the scale of Grit. She found that the Grit score of someone predicts the level of the achievement they can have under difficult or challenging circumstances. She tried this test at the United States Military Academy, where she had the cadets take the short test and found that the ones who had the highest Grit were the ones who were most likely to go the through with the stringent training program they went through called the "Beast Barracks". Not the ones with the highest IQ's, the most talent, or even the most athletic. She tried again in the Scripp's Spelling Bee, and saw that those who were most intelligent but had a low Grit score were most likely to not make it as far as those who had a higher score. She declared that those who had higher Grit were more likely to pass because they studied harder and with determination. In all of those, it seemed that Grit was the factor that made the students stand out when it came to success, once again proving high IQ's always being better wrong. Logos is a bit short, as many times in other articles, Grit is simply a glossed over idea that has been thought of up before. A Harvard study conducted across 100 countries found that whether rich or poor, people who give to charity are happier. Perceived happiness increases, even more, when we see the impact of our gift has on someone. ––According to Tony Robbins, writer at Robbins Research Organization, Inc. Michael Norton, the TED Talk speaker, discussed "How to Buy Happiness." Norton is a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School; he has also studied psychology. Furthermore, Norton did research on whether spending money on oneself or on others can make a person happy. According to him, people who spend money on others are happier than those who spend money on themselves. He wanted to convince his audience that happiness is in sharing or giving to others. First, he gained the attention of his public by starting his speech with humor. Similarly, he has conducted various surveys on how two groups of people, who felt differently, spend money on others like charity or giving gifts from different countries like Uganda and Canada. Although Norton's attempts at stablishing credibility were somewhat ineffective, his arguments were mostly effect because of his use of logos and pathos. Norton's used ethos in his speech but not very effectively. He had a good appearance, he was dressed simple but at the same time he looked formal. Besides this, he gave an enthusiastic and sincere look. His tone of voice throughout his speech was friendly and reality–based and he chose simple vocabulary as well, his body language was clear and bold while interacting with his audience. He looked credible because he provided evidence, but he did not really stablish himself as an expert of happiness; he said that he was in a business school but he does not convince his audience that he is credible in this way. Michael was successful in convincing his point of view through the use of pathos. His audience was enjoying his speech because of the touch of humor in his talk. He started his speech with rejecting a common belief, this was a bit surprising as well as funny at the same time. He explained that "we see it in religions and self–help books: money can't buy ... • 13. A Summary Of Living Beyond Limits Amy Purdy's TED talk, "Living Beyond Limits", empowers people to push past their boundaries. She encourages people to embrace their differences and obstacles in life that would normally set them back. Purdy explained that after she had graduated from high school, she moved from a large desert to somewhere that snowed, and she became a massage therapist. She finally felt in control of her own life. Unfortunately, this was all for a very short time because one day soon after, she left her job early because of what she thought was the flu. Realistically, Purdy had contracted bacterial meningitis, and was soon laying in the hospital on life support. She lost both of her legs from the knee down, hearing in her left ear, and both of her kidneys. After she healed, she tried on a new pair prosthetic legs, and she grew frustrated and immediately felt as though her life would be restricted and confined forever, that her new legs would impact her life in a very negative way. After a few months of moping and feeling sorry for herself, she started to view her position in a new light. She decided she must embrace her new legs, and learn how to work with them, instead of working against them. She found many benefits to having prosthetic legs, and it made her realize that her legs weren't a curse. After realizing all of the positives, Purdy was able to continue with her life, and as time went on, she overcame even more obstacle by staying positive. Four months after Purdy's health scare, ... • 15. Rhetorical Analysis Of Tuesdays With Morrie Tuesdays with Morrie – Rhetorical Analysis Mitch Albom described in the book did not resemble the Mitch Albom in the movie production. American author and sports columnist Mitch Albom in his memoir from Tuesdays with Morrie (1997) records his weekly conferences with his old, diseased professor for his final thesis about life. He develops his tear–jerking chronicle by first describing Morrie before Lou Gehrig's disease, then addressing his new lifestyle with the disease, then listing their discussion topics in chapter title form, and finally recounting how Morrie's wise words have impacted the way Mitch lives and encounters life. Albom's purpose is to raise money and awareness of the disease in order to pay for Morrie's medical bills. He establishes a buoyant tone for the general public. However, although this memoir to a man's favorite professor is a success and a best–seller, no book is complete without a movie, in Hollywood. In 1999, talk–show host Oprah Winfrey produced a film dedicated to the narrative written by Albom. However, this film did not closely resemble the memoir for entertainment reasons. Mitch is not completely portrayed correctly; the film would be boring if the story was identical. Tuesdays with Morrie as a memoir simply shines light on how Morrie Schwartz impacted a former student's life beneficially. Mitch is a young man whose life had blossomed to be fairly average. A life well lived means that you had an adventurous, fulfilling, and worthwhile life, with family and friends that supported you through everything. A common regret most people have as they age is that they "lost time," doing things they did not truly want to do. As a young person, I do not have much experience, but I do know that I would much rather be traveling and enjoying time with family and friends over struggling in school and taking three tests a week. At the end of my life, I want to say that I had fun and that I travelled and explored places I never knew existed, and to have a loving husband and family. I want to learn new things and ... Every person should have a piece of Hamlet in them, to provide a little bit of protection. Before doing something, hesitation and nervousness sometimes creep in, and that's okay. Everyone needs to keep a sharp mentality that actions can affect the rest of their life, and they must realize that actions can either harm or help their future selves. Hamlet is a great story to learn about because it can be interpreted in different ways – either Hamlet was a fool and wasted his life overthinking about every single thing, or Hamlet was a tragic hero because he thought about the consequences before doing something but lived his life living with regret. We can all take a piece of Hamlet and keep ourselves alert to what our actions can bring. Before taking the leap, take a step back and breathe, think it all out – it will be a smarter choice and you will thank yourself for being a little hesitant. • 19. Analysis Of Brene Brown 'The Power Of Vulnerability' Brene Brown, a researcher in social interactions, takes an unexpected perspective in her ted talk called "The Power of Vulnerability". She starts out her speech by telling a joke and explaining her education and experience in social work. A quote her professor put on the board led her to research the connection among people. However, this led to many other things such as shame, fear, and the most prominent factor, vulnerability. She realized that for connection to occur we must be seen completely for who we are. This led to 6 years of research, including hundreds of stories and thousands of pieces of data. Brown wrote a book about her findings but she felt that something was still missing. It turned out the missing component was worthiness. To delve deeper into worthiness, she did a study on people who think they are worthy and people who don't. People who thought they were worthy had these four things in common, courage, compassion, connection, and vulnerability. Brown realized at this point that she needed to understand vulnerability thoroughly by facing it herself. A therapist helped brown face vulnerability head on for a year straight, and in the end, she potentially won her life back. Brown stated "...vulnerability is the core of shame, of fear and of worthiness, but it is also the birthplace of joy, of creativity, of belonging, of love..." After facing her fear, she knew that vulnerability was the core of not only fear, but also happiness. Brown goes on to say that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Examples Of Rapport And Empathy Angelica Lai – Discussion #2: Empathy and Rapport Building rapport and empathy with clients is extremely important no matter what the job is. As mentioned throughout this module, empathy and rapport fuel the relationship between people. My previous work experience includes working at a movie theatre and hospital security. Both jobs required rapport and empathy as these jobs required serving the public. However, even though the jobs itself were different, both had the same underlying task, which is working with people. Working at the movie theatre, it is directed to more of a customer service job, where often the guests get upset over issues we as the employee do not understand. I found once you put their issues in front of your own personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found if I focus on the interpersonal aspect of the relationship, I can build and maintain positive working relationships. However, this is not the only skills that are important. It is important to showcase characteristics, or attributes like trust, respect, humour, and integrity. After reading the content in Module 2, I have seen skills I use, but also new skills I am going to incorporate. One suggestions I am going to incorporate is the acronym E.M.P.A.T.H.Y. from the Ted Talk by Helen Riess (2013). The reason being that, this is an easy acronym to remember and apply when building both rapport and empathy. I will need to practice this for a while, but as soon as I get it right, it will be an easy guideline to help build that connection with others. Another skill, which was explained in this module was the power of powerless communication from the Ted Talk by Adam Grant (2013). In a security position it is often explained to talk with assertiveness, but sometimes this backfires as the client becomes more aggressive. By applying the concepts of tentative talking, it may help build that rapport and empathy as it shows a more humanistic side. I think it is important that we show our humanistic side, as many individuals just see the uniform and not the person wearing it. By applying these skills, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is entitled Love No Matter What and is the culmination of years of research done by Andrew Solomon. I chose this Ted Talk because I thought it would be interesting to hear about different lived experiences that people have endured. One of the huge ideas I have learned throughout this leadership course and all our topics and conversation is that we all have different lived experiences. It is our lived experiences that make us special and individual. Love No Matter What focused on this essential idea and how important differences are. The topic of this Ted Talk completely reflects what has been said in our leadership class as well as what I think a student leader at Western Oregon University should be. Solomon's talk is centered around the relationship of parents and children and accepting and loving children, but the ideas expressed in his talk can be applied to any human relationship. I believe Western is a university that deeply prides itself in its student diversity and acceptedness of said diversity. The Western that I know, and love, understands the true necessity of diversity and wishes to be accepting of diversity in all of its forms. To me, listening to this Ted Talk was very emotional and personal. I have been incredible blessed with parents in my life that love and accept me the way I am. Davis' essay: "From Acts to Dispositions: The Attribution Process in Person Perception", and watching Dan Gilbert's Ted talks, I came across a few ideas that I've never thought of before, and in addition to that, I acquired new insights from them, most especially Gilbert's Ted talks. I also found relating themes between Jones and Davis' essay and Gilbert's Ted talk: "The surprising science of happiness" (2004), "Why we make bad decisions" (2005) and "The psychology of your future self " (2014). The themes or keynote that I think stood out were our actions as humans, our perceptions, our decisions, and how these things affect us. Reflection on Dan Gilbert's Ted talks: Before we watched Gilbert's Ted talks, my expectation was that they were going to be more focused on scientific, or just psychological studies, or something in that range of thought. However, there were more to the talks than I deemed it would be, because the talks had psychologic aspects to it, but it was framed around issues, or ideas that I see to be more on the social part of things that we do, and real question: "Why do humans or people even do this?" To simplify what I mean to say–most of the themes in the talks, to me, seem to be challenging us socially. In other words, it makes us think about ideas in a whole new way. For example, "The surprising science of happiness" seems to be targeting our egos as humans. The way Gilbert does that is by bringing up a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Morrie Short Story Summary The primary story arc takes place over the course of 14 weeks in the late summer and fall of 1995, beginning when the narrator Mitch discovers that Morrie, his beloved sociology professor from college, is dying from ALS. When Mitch's newspaper union strikes, putting him out of work for an extended period, Mitch travels each week on Tuesday from his home in Detroit to Morrie's home outside Boston for what he calls his final class with Morrie. His final thesis is the full, completed book. Morrie grew up in New York and his family was very poor. When he was nine, his mother fell ill and died, which haunted Morrie throughout the rest of his life. His father, Charlie, was not an affectionate man, and Morrie struggled through the next two years until his father remarried. Eva, his stepmother, was kind and loving. She gave Morrie both the love he so desperately desired, and instilled in him a love for education. After a failed attempt by Morrie's father to get him a job in a fur factory, Morrie decided to become a teacher. At the beginning of each chapter, Mitch shares the story of his relationship with Morrie during his college days. Mitch began college in 1976 at Brandeis University, and met Morrie in his first sociology class. Mitch was one of the youngest students, which he compensated for by acting very tough. Morrie, however, treated him with compassion and kindness, and the two developed a very trusting teacher/student relationship. Morrie convinced Mitch to write an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chapter 4: In this chapter the author stresses the importance of creatures that pollinate such as insects, birds, bats, and bees. Bees are the primary source of pollination for much of our plant life. Without bees we wouldn't have plants and the dropping numbers of the bee population is negatively affecting our food production. Chapter 5: This chapter starts off talking about the drop of numbers of vultures in India. Most of which became extinct. This was due to a new anti–inflammatory drug that was given to sick animals. Vultures eat dead carcasses which was a good thing for everyone. After the vultures fed on the bodies of other animals that had been given this drug they died. Without vultures, the bodies of the animals were buried or burned. Not to mention that the bodies of the dead animals sitting in the sun was a public health hazard. When the population of vultures disappeared, the population of feral dogs increased. This was a bad thing. This brought on multiple diseases with one of them being rabies. The first invention he describes consists of a device implanted into a patient to detect acute myocardial infection (AMI). The second invention is a device that helps eliminate migraine headaches. The third invention details the best way to treat epilepsy through a responsive electrical treatment. Robert Fischell delivered the speech in acceptance of his 2005 TED award in an official conference. His credibility cannot be doubted as he is the inventor of other well–known medical devices such as, the rechargeable pacemaker, the insulin pump, and a pre–cursor to GPS. The speaker's fascinating inventive capability, and determination to make the world a better place, adds to his credibility. The TED conference consisted of approximately a thousand people from different fields such as technology, design, business, science, entertainment, as well as the non– profit world. The audience is not only limited to the live audience as millions of people can access the 26:46 minute speech through the internet and mass media. The speaker used a hook effectively to draw the audience into the speech. He starts by noting that the speech is aimed at discussing the invention that can have an impact on ten to a hundred million people. With such a remarkable statement, everyone would be interested to know the details of his inventions. At the same time, he mentions his previous inventions, stents, and insulin pumps for the diabetic, which he discussed in the prior film. This creates trust among the audience about the speaker's credibility. The speech's opening fully establishes the intention of the presentation. Speech Content and Structure The presentation was entirely focused on the primary objective of the speech and uses a problem and solution technique. This man is the late Morrie Schwartz, a former college professor at Brandeis University. In his mid– 70s, Morrie was diagnosed with the dreaded disease of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. A few of those themes include love, life and death, and the rejection of culture. With each week going by with Mitch, Morrie displays those themes. The first theme shown repeatedly through the novel, is love. Love is a word that many of us dream to have one day. Some are destined to find the one, and some are meant to be on their own. That was even the plot line for The Matrix movie series. But in Morrie's case, he wasn't the one who was waking up, it was the people around him waking up to Morrie dying, that Morrie wouldn't die because of old age, but of a disease that has no cure. The people around him started to realize how fragile the human existence is compared to the universe, because it will carry on no matter who you are. Most people think that they are invincible, that nothing can take them out, but something simple that's not even alive like a virus can kill you, it shows how easy it is to die. Morrie did talk about humanity's fragile existence once in the book, talking about the Yugoslavian Civil War, "The other night, on TV, I saw people in Bosnia running across the street, getting fired upon, killed, innocent victims ... and I just started to cry. As Mitch is going through the channels he sees his teacher, and goes back to watch. Conflicted with the idea that his teacher has ALS and he hasn't seen him in quite some time Mitch decided to visit Morrie. Mitch and Morrie meet every Tuesday and call each other "Tuesday people". Morrie sharing his thoughts and life lessons, bring Mitch back to the way he was before. Morrie while talking with Mitch on Tuesdays reminds Mitch that having the most money, or the biggest car isn't going to further you in life. Morrie while bringing wisdom and knowledge into Mitch's life also shows him how having a teacher student bond like this is one not that can be replaced. After reading this book you can conclude that Mitch has more knowledge and understanding after talking to Morrie on Tuesdays. Mitch was very different after he left college and before he started to meet with Morrie on Tuesdays. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Mitch kept on seeing Morrie, things started to change and Morrie started to get his priorities straight. As Morrie was talking he says "Mitch, I embrace aging". You do get older, take it in. Life eventually comes to an end, and it "won't matter what you tell yourself" Morrie says. Life doesn't slow down for us to pick and choose our own time and place for everything. We need to take things at they come. Morrie also says "You grow, you learn more. If you stay twenty two, you'd always be as ignorant as you were are twenty two." "Aging isn't just decay, you know. It's growth." As you get older you get wiser, and with that you take in what has come of it that you are older and nothing is going to change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. An Example Of Personal Listening Listening is one of the most important processes in any sphere of life, such as business, education and relationships. Listening is more than just hearing voices and noise, listening means concentrating, giving attention to someone talking, be open minded, attending in the discussion (Schilling, par.3), and understanding what the person is actually interpreting, using body expression and words (Giang, par.1). These skills are required for success and a good life. They give the solution of conflicts and difficulties, develop correctness, guarantee comprehension and create reliable relationships (Schilling, par.1). Considering all this, it will be presented an example of someone's listening skills by an observation and an analysis and the ways of improvement of my personal listening skills. Section 1 – ... During the discussion, I absorbed if the customer was a good listener. I tried to figure out his bad and good habits in his listening skills regarding the information I learned in class and the material I read. During my observation, I noticed a few things which I considered as important for a successful business and working time, such as their suitable clothes and professional standing. In the beginning, the customer appeared as a good listener. As Dianne Schilling said, facing the person talking, having eye contact with him and keeping an open mind are important habits for an effective listening (par.2, 4). Most of the time, the customer faced my uncle and had eye contact with him showing the good habits of a listener. Indeed as Vivian Giang said, knowing and following what the other person is saying considering the verbal and nonverbal indications has a huge impact in effective listening (par.1, 14, 15). Ms. Bailey describes how hiding your true self can be a way of gaining acceptance and fitting in either in your social circle or at work. She states hiding is a continuous habit that becomes harder to break and will make it terrifying to step forward and reveal your true self. For her, coming from a conservative town in Kansas made it difficult to reveal her true self of being a lesbian and fear of not being accepted. She states she did not want to be defined as a "lesbian" but wanted to just be known as Morgana. There was a Deloitte study done in 2013, that determined that a large amount of people hide ... He states that at that point the level of happiness is pushed to the opposite side of success and they won't ever meet. As a society we've trained ourselves to think that success will determine our happiness. What I Know Now From My Studies And Research Of Eq By comparing what I know now from my studies and research of EQ, I acknowledge several areas of opportunity for EQ improvement including: Self–Awareness: I was not as self–aware as I could have been. I didn't recognize or acknowledge my emotions and how they may have impacted my thoughts and actions. Several factors related to both work and home contributed to my diminished self–confidence. I was also self–absorbed and showed low self–esteem by taking on total blame for the outcome. It may be true that I might have been more influential with my boss if I had been more self–assured. I thought at the time I presented my case with authority, but perhaps my thoughts and body language didn't portray that confidence. Regardless, I know that my role in these situations is to make recommendations; his role is to make the final decision. I do believe, however, that in general I will have more influence the more confident I am. Following the end of the 681 Traverse City class, I watched Amy Cuddy's Ted Talk on "presence". She states that if you project self–assurance, even if you're not feeling it, you will be more credible and influential with others. The old saying, "fake it until you make it" is true. They will buy your act. Self–assessment: I also didn't make an accurate self–assessment of my limits. I was burned out at work and home, and didn't take needed time away to refresh and refill my reservoir. Ironically, I often recognize when our managers and staff are exhibiting ... • 57. Reflection Paper On Perseverance Research Reflection Before I began researching I was really passionate about the ability to persevere and I knew I wanted to talk about perseverance and explain why it was such an essential characteristic to have. I especially wanted to find examples of many others that had to persevere to get through their own tough times. But when I originally started researching my topic I did not exactly have anything in mind about what I was exactly looking for. This was mainly due to that I had the ideas in my head but did not know how to put those in a way that I could deliver it for the whole class to understand. So as I began researching I focused on just using perseverance in school, like not giving up after not getting a concept the first time. But after looking through a few articles I found many examples of when perseverance was used in other ways, such as building things for society or ways in which one can be successful. This then broadened my perspective on perseverance and showed me the benefits of it. The "Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance." Ted Talk video was extremely helpful for my research since it gave me numerous amounts of examples of how the main thing that distinguishes kids for who they are is perseverance. I found out that one's intelligence quality is not determined by their test scores, but rather it is determined by how they improve on making those test scores the best they can be. Self Esteem Leads To Success How Self–Esteem Leads to Success "The strongest factor for success is self–esteem: Believing you can do it, believing you deserve it, believing you can get it." by anonymous. Self–esteem is the key to success because without confidence you lose faith in yourself. Too much confidence can affect your way to success also. Success is being comfortable with who you are. According to Meaghan Ramsey in her TED talk "Why thinking you're ugly is bad for you" she states that "About six out of ten girls are now choosing not to (do the activities that they like) because they don't think they look good enough". If girls are choosing to give up on what they are good at because of their appearance, they might think their whole life they are not good enough for any of their favorite activities, or even what they always dreamed being in the future when they were younger. She next claims that "Thirty–one percent, nearly one in three teenagers are withdrawing from classroom debate. They're failing to engage in classroom debate because they don't want to draw attention to the way they look." Teens are now being afraid of participating in class because of what they think that other people judge them. Students shouldn't be failing a class because of how they look, or what other people think about them. Students should be proud to know the answer to a question and be able to raise their hand without being afraid. This shows how self–esteem affects your way to success. Another point worth ... The book circulated in the events of their lives from the flashbacks and present times and how they were able to meet up again and change each other's lives. The central theme of this book is about life lessons one can garner through death. With this, Tuesdays with Morrie is the outcome of the remaining time they spent together while Morrie is nearing to his death. The story began with a flashback of Mitch's Graduation Day. Part A: Email /Text Problems The current technological age that uses the social media has led various problems in writing and receiving emails/texts. The biggest problem is not getting any part of a message from the text or email; understanding of the message is the greatest problem. The powder's chemical composition, size and shape are analyzed (Kaushish, 2008). Powders are usually potential hazards, such as being flammable, and thus they should be handled with safety precaution. Mixing of powders usually involves the addition of alloying elements, pressing lubricant, binders, and other substances. The uniform distribution of the particles is emphasized in order to obtain a processed part with uniform density. Compaction involves forming the mixed powder into a compact of desirable shape and size. Whereby, the powder is pressed in a rigid enclosure which comprises of die and punches. The 's Secret Model By Cameron Russell Victoria 's Secret Model, Cameron Russell, delivered one of the most profound TED Talks delivered on the Mid Atlantic stage, according to TED writer Cameron Gallo. The model explains that though the modeling industry considered her a perfect, she does not believe her appearance defines her. Thus she came up with the title for her speech, "Looks Aren 't Everything... Believe Me, I 'm a Model.". She specifically addresses that children need to understand that modeling does not constitute a glamorous career. The industry drowns out personal values, views, and appearances to warp these characteristics into a general image accepted by the masses, according to Russell. She describes her view on modeling, and how it essentially made her feel like a hard shell of a person with no inner value. She ended by encouraging people to find a balance between outward appearance and inner beauty. "Looks Aren 't Everything.... Believe Me, I 'm a Model" is categorized as TED talk. These "talks" are powered by nonprofit organizations dedicated to spreading ideas, in the form of speeches, demonstrations, and videos. Richard Saul Wormac, describes the talks as "observations and recognition of a powerful convergence among three fields: technology, entertainment and design" (Gallo 3). World class speakers perform 18–20 minute presentations, within the three fields. Cameron Russell addresses each individual field in her speech, not limiting herself to one specific category. Through many forms of communication, we have become conscious of the difficulties college students encounter because of pressures that intervene amidst their equanimity and education. The Ted talk "Bring on the learning revolution!" presented by Sir Ken Robinson, a well–received speaker of TED and the essay "College Pressures" by William Zinsser, a journalist, portray the crisis students are undoubtedly undergoing. While they executed their main points through the means of distinct genres, their ideas complement each other when discussing the real–life experiences students have in college. Whether it be economic, parental, peer, and or self–induced pressures demonstrated to affect students (in the author's works), they don't seem overwhelming until one confronts them. Both texts contained the emphasis that pressures, among causing temporary frustrations can also lead to adverse life– changing effects. Being in college, I have witnessed the dismayed faces of students run into the wall of confusion, dissatisfaction, and demotivation with the way their education is unfolding. I have run into the same wall too, myself, and then only understood the degree of uneasiness that situates other scholars in the state of mental devastation. The propositions presented by the writers have potential to inform and help outreach their audience (mostly students) to pursue a career that they're passionate about. We all most likely ... Anyone can all look back to a time in our lives where they wish someone could just pick for us, or times when we wish there were more to choose from. All Americans have many choices, and it is such a part of our daily lives that we don't even realize it. Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar's TED talks bring up interesting ideas about choice, how people deal with them and their affects. The Definition Of The Art And Science Of Nursing The Art and Science of Nursing Nursing is art and science, carried out by nurses of all ages and backgrounds who all bring their own personal and professional experience and beliefs. The nursing profession was built on a foundation of art and science and both must be embraced. I will be explaining my definition of the concepts of the art and the science of nursing and the aspect that drew me into the profession personally. Two TED talks will also be discussed about what I feel are their common themes and how those themes relate to nursing. The Art of Nursing The art of nursing is the compassion and care nurses put into their care daily with the major focus being the patient. It is therapeutic communication that conveys the message with respect, empathy, and understanding. It is being a strong advocate, compassionate care giver and a great listener. The art of nursing also means to be aware. Knowing when your patient needs something without them having to verbally express those needs, including both physical and emotional needs. In my daily practice, I exhibit the use of the art of nursing by genuinely caring for my patients, not only administering medications, and performing other scheduled tasks, but taking the time to get to know them. I strive to learn at least one thing about each patient I care for that has nothing to do with their illness. Analysis Of The Story 'Tuesdays With Morrie' Morrie Schwartz: Inspiration, Mentor, Teacher "Well the truth is, if you really listen to that bird on your shoulder, if you accept that you can die at any time, then you might not be as ambitious as you are" (Albom, 83) is a quote stated by the protagonist who's body is decaying due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and has come to terms with his disease and upcoming death. In the story "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom, the protagonist impacts people's outlook on their lives. Morrie Schwartz, a sociology professor who developed ALS, feels the need to share his words of wisdom on the meaning of life through taking pride in the way he has lived, making use of his experiences, and being optimistic about his upcoming death. Morrie is an inspiration for many as he takes pride in the way he lived his life. As one grows, they learn more. People often wish they could go back to a certain age, however Morrie has a different understanding of this: "If you stayed as ignorant as you were at twenty– two, you'd always be twenty–two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth" (Albom, 118). Young people suffer real miseries, but they do not have the wisdom of age to deal with them and if they were to wish for youth, it would indicate dissatisfaction in their life.
