Giovanni Bellini was an Italian Renaissance painter from Venice who was active between 1430-1516. He revolutionized Venetian painting by shifting to the use of oil paint and including more figures and landscapes. Bellini was influenced early in his career by his brother-in-law, Andrea Mantegna. In his middle years, Bellini began to focus on oil painting techniques and subjects like religious works for palaces and cathedrals in Venice. Some of his most famous works from his middle period include the Barbagio Altarpiece and the Madonna of the Meadow.
