1. About sight and sound: Sight and sound is a British monthly film magazine
published by the British film institute. Sight and sound was first published in
1932 and is still publishing to this day. This magazine company reviews all film
released each month including those with a limited (art house) release. I think
this magazine company is more suited to our film as our film is more quirky
and directed to a niche audiences. Therefore I will use a similar structure of
magazine layouts to structure my magazine. Sight and sound usually seem to
portray more quirky different more independent films. There covers are
usually very simple, with photographed pictures, or have a arty look to them.
Where as empire films tend to be more edited, animated and bold. This
magazine i therefore aimed at a more individual art house audience and very
few mainstream movies.

Empire is a British film magazine published by bauer
media group. It is the highest selling film magazine in the
United Kingdom and is also published in the united states,
australia turkey, russia empire films usually tend to be
more edited and animated wiith bright outgoing colours
and potray big popular hollywood film. Therefore empire
is aimed mostly at a main stream audience.

1) This film magazine cover is also from sight
and sound which demonstrates a quirky film
cover which is also the look I am going for in my
film magazine cover. This film is a horror film
called get out about black people who get brain
washed by a white upper class family. This
magazine cover also portrays the narrative as
well as having the main focus on the main
protagonist who is the black man at the Centre
on the poster. The colours used imply diversity
and suggests it could be a art house film as it
uses multicolored colours. half of his face is in
red which may suggest danger or blood and the
other half of his face has a tear streaming down
his face which suggests he’s upset or in distress.

which suggests they are more out there and are
different.

4. Empire magazines
This empire magazine cover has been heavily edited.
The main image is representing the film iron man 3,
which shows a mid shot of the man in an iron suit
holding his helmet, as it shows he is a human under
his costume. His head is covering part of there title
which demonstrates this is a well known, popular
magazine as people will still be able to recognize it
even if part of its covered. Iron man is a well known
mainstream movie which is the main focus. In the
bottom right corner it includes what else is going to
be featured in the magazine. It uses the sell lines in
red to connote alert so it stands out and then it has a
description in white below. The title of the film is in
red to connote danger, to suggest a bit about the
film, and its in capitals and a large font size so it
stands out against the other titles. This magazine
looks as if its aimed at a young male audience as its
very masculine and iron man is a type of super hero
which typically young children have an interest in.

5. Sight and sound magazines
This magazine cover is an example of a art house, quirky film. This
cover isn’t focusing on one specific film. It uses Richard Ayonade as the
main attraction to draw in the audience as he is a famous successful
actor. He became famous from the It crowd which is a quirky series
and carried on featuring in comedy indie films and series. The
magazine poster portrays this diversity, as it uses a variety of bold
fonts surrounding him. Some are in capitals to stand out against those
in a smaller more discrete don’t. The colours used are a mixture of
black blue red and orange. With a faded light grey background. The
bright colours stand out from the light grey background to draw your
attention. It’s quirkiness is also demonstrated by some of the font
looking as if it’s hand written. The font isn’t in a neat order, it’s shown
quite messy which may suggest his films are a bit different and away
from the norm. They have stated what films he has featured in for
example the submarine which is a niche targeted diverse film which
implies what kind of magazine films this is advertising. The man is
shown from a mid shot view, wearing a suit and glasses which implies
he is smart or geeky.
However in my film poster my focus will be more on the narrative
rather than the character as our characters are not well known so will
not draw in the audience. However the similarities will be our main
focus of the poster will be the picture of the main characters with
quirky fonts.

6. Empire Magazines
In this empire magazine, it looks like its aiming to
attract a more female audience as the main color
scheme are bold pinks, purple and blues. These are
more stereotypically girl colors. The title empire is
partly covered by her head which implies its well
known and very mainstream. Unlike sight and sight,
sight and sound it never partly covered, its always
shown in a bold yellow box, which stands out so its
memorable and so you can read it as it may not be well
known. This magazine is portraying a very mainstream
Hollywood movie, which includes an image of one of
the main female characters. She is shown from a mid
shot and by a direct address as she is looking into the
camera which attracts the audience attention as she is
looking directly at you. The title of the film is in large
white font which is to imply it’s the main focus of the
magazine. She is wearing rock, punk clothing which
hints what sort of film it could be. In very small writing
in white above the main title represents what else is
going to be in the magazine. But the fact it is in small
font represents it’s an extra instead of the main
attraction.

3) This magazine cover is also demonstrating a art house
quirky film, which I have picked as ours will be similar as this
film cover focuses on the narrative. This film is portrayed to
a niche audience as it is a British film about a girl who lives
in a east London council estate. She is a 15 year old isolated
girl who lives with her mum and her mums to boyfriend
then becomes attracted to the 15 year old daughter. it
featured on BBC’s the 21st century’s 100 greatest films
which is why the total 21st century girl is used on the front
cover to display its success. This title is diverse and draws in
attention as each letter is in a different colour and has
bubble writing font and looks as if it’s been hand written.
This effect is commonly used in Quirky films as it uses a
different font which mainstreams wouldn’t usually use as
they usually use neat sophisticated fonts to demonstrate a
sophisticated quality film. It looks as if it it aimed at young
teens and young adults as well as single mums who may be
British working class as it may be relatable. This image hints
that narrative as she is dressed in a baggy hoodie with her
hood up which is stereotypically seen as Chavy and worn by
troubled teenagers. It indicates she lives in a rough area
which is also demonstrated by the high rise flats in the
background. It includes the type of film it is ( British) and
includes the name of the film.

8. Empire magazines
In this magazine, the title empire is in red which
matched the red on his jacket and the color red
stands out against the dark background so it grabs
your attention. Like the other empire films I have
analyzed it uses a mainstream movie, harry potter
which is very well known all around the world. This
magazine shows the image of harry potter as the
main focus as he is shown from a close up and is
shown looking into the camera which will draw in
the audience. However this magazine shows more
focus on the extras in the magazine than the other
two I have analyzed. It includes an image in the
bottom left corner of other characters which they
will feature. They also include titles of other film
which will be included in the magazine at the
bottom of the poster which is in capital letters in
white and yellow writing to stand out against the
dark background. As well as included other
features which will be included down the left hand
side. This magazine seems to be aimed at
adults/young adults as it uses the phrase ‘’bloody
hell!’’ which is aimed at people above the age of
