Seeing What the System Thinks You Know - Visualizing Evidence in an Open Lear...tobold
This document summarizes a visualization tool called MyExperience for open learner models.
MyExperience provides an interactive visualization of what a learner knows based on their activities in an open-ended learning environment. It reduces the complexity of large learning domains to fit on a single screen and provides an intuitive view of a learner's knowledge that they can correct. MyExperience is based on non-invasive knowledge assessment of a learner's natural workplace activities and interactions.
Forces on architecture decisions (WICSA 2012)Rich Hilliard
The document discusses forces that drive architecture decisions. It states that creating software architecture involves making choices between alternatives for issues like whether to build or buy components, which frameworks to use, and where to put components. These decisions are driven by forces like requirements, business goals, laws, standards, and technical concerns regarding reliability, experience, scalability, and strategic development. A force is any factor that must be considered when evaluating decision alternatives. Typical forces include requirements, business goals, constraints, regulations, laws, standards, and technical principles.

Informal Learning and Social Media: Upskiilling for 21st Century TrainingMarlo Gorelick
The document discusses how training is evolving from traditional instructor-led methods to incorporate more social and informal learning approaches. It notes that while social and informal learning have long existed, new technologies like social media now allow them to occur on a larger scale. The document provides advice on how trainers can support these new approaches, including developing skills in curating content, including learners, participating in communities, and nurturing communities rather than just directing them. It emphasizes shifting focus from teaching set methods to helping people learn how to learn on their own.
The document discusses the differences between hearing and listening. It states that hearing is a passive process of absorbing information, while listening is an active process of eliciting meaning through decoding. It also notes that listening skills are among the least used but most taught communication skills. The document provides tips on how to be an effective listener through strategies like paying attention, avoiding bias, understanding others' perspectives, and following the listening process of hearing, comprehending, analyzing, and remembering.

The document discusses several theories of cognitive development and their relevance to teaching, including behaviorism, Piaget's theory of cognitive development, and Vygotsky's sociocultural theory. It notes that behaviorism sees learning as response to external stimuli and conditioning, while Piaget believed development occurs in stages linked to maturation. Vygotsky argued learning is social and occurs through scaffolding within a child's zone of proximal development with help from others. The document concludes that teachers should consider multiple theories to create effective learning environments tailored to different students and contexts, as no single approach fits all situations.
The document discusses how the Learning Entrepreneurship (LE) Game simulation can help bridge the gap between Action Regulation Theory (ART) and the practice of teaching entrepreneurship. ART posits that entrepreneurship involves active, self-starting behavior. The LE Game activates entrepreneurial behavior by simulating a market with producers, suppliers, traders competing to make profits. Studies of the LE Game can provide evidence to support ART and help create an Entrepreneurial Behavior Explanation theory by measuring how players regulate their actions in the simulation.

Learning Entrepreneurship Game (LE-Game) with administrative processes for VAT ROC van Twente
The administrative processes are included in LE-Game Silver. Participants have to register the transactions and calculate VAT (either inclusive in the price or exclusive). So 20% up or 20/120= 16.66% down.
This document outlines the key actions and receipts involved in the purchase and sale of raw materials and finished products between two companies. It describes 4 main actions: placing an order, receiving products, making a payment, and issuing receipts. It also mentions registering for VAT and making VAT payments.
This document discusses new approaches to teaching young people. It notes that young people learn differently now, with faster speeds, multitasking, connectivity, collaboration and seeing technology as a friend. It advocates for active, experiential and game-based learning approaches. The document also introduces Henk Roelofs and his focus on entrepreneurial education through authentic learning environments and his Learning Entrepreneurship Network.
This document provides instructions for a role-playing game where participants take on roles as suppliers, producers, traders, or employees in a simulated business environment. Suppliers sell raw materials to producers, who manufacture products and sell to traders or directly to the market. Traders purchase products from producers and sell to the finished product market. The game aims to teach participants about business operations and relationships through experiential learning. Guidelines establish market and production limitations to structure the economic simulation.
Acquiring a new language vocabulary happens naturally through meaningful input rather than conscious study of grammar rules. Traditional language education treats language as an academic subject rather than a physical skill, which is why it often fails. The document also includes tables describing the roles and products of suppliers, producers, and traders in a manufacturing network.
Riga Henk Roelofs on authentic learning environmentsROC van Twente
The document introduces the edupreneurial pedagogic method, which is an educational method focused on experiential learning of entrepreneurship. It discusses two authentic learning environments: (1) International Learning Companies (ILCs), where students work in project teams on real problems for client companies over 5 months; and (2) an LE Game, which simulates starting and running businesses over 2 hours to experience risks and creating value. The method is based on action learning and learning by doing, with the goal of developing an entrepreneurial mindset through experiences of success and learning from failures in a low-risk environment.
The document introduces an edupreneurial pedagogic method called the LE Game for teaching entrepreneurship. It provides a pull system experience that gives risk and added value. The method uses simulations and gaming to involve active learning and higher retention compared to traditional lectures. The LE Game simulation allows students to start businesses, purchase and sell goods, experience risks and success. Pre and post testing is used to measure changes in entrepreneurial behaviors like extraversion. The goal is to use experiential learning to develop both hard skills like business knowledge and soft skills like behaviors and attitudes needed for entrepreneurship.

welcome to our presentation Reference /creation as an effective learning system for teaching languages.
I'm Henk Roefofs senior Lecturer at Stenden University, Im also an entrepreneurand my co-author Rizwan Saleem (begroeting Hindi) and the other co-author adriaan[missing]and my assisstant Qi Yuan (begroeting Chinees)Today we are delighted to be in Ploand in G$#@# where we have been invited to present our paper on language learning using a simulation game in a network environmentWe have developedThe Edupreneurial Method using Zapp-Learning and reference creationIn our presentation we will try to give an impression of this method, therefore the outlineTo days motto is No Chinese - No MoneyWe used the game simulation to improve entrepreneurial behavior and skills. In an earlier article (USAsbe)we proved that entrepreneurial behavior can be taught and learned using the pull learning method of edupreneurial in Le game. Le game is a simulation entrepreneurship game. When entrepreneurial learning is as effective as we think, it should be possible to simultaneously teach and learn something very effectively: such as the basic vocabulary of a totally unfamiliar language.Learning a language is far more difficult and complex than just learning vocabulary by headLearning a foreign language seems to be very difficult and complex with the main focus on spelling, grammar and learning by head.We discovered that learning a foreign language by another approach and method of learning is far more effective efficient flexible and creative. Combining learning a language with entrepreneurship through Reference Creation brings along another process. A dynamic process of interaction, competitive, learning by doing and success driven. The edupreneurial method.
We found out that learning can be influenced by creating an environment that appeals to all our senses and positive emotions. Success drives success!Competences to be successful in a professional environment are the goal of learning. So we have to teach to be successfulIn this approach we are supported by Antonio Dimasio (Descartes error). He points out that organisms memorize unconsciously their experiences, feelings and emotions in dispositional representations. It made clear that for learning a language, to communicate in a foreign language we had to create learning elements which activate or stimulate this making of mental images. The edupreneurial method helps retrieving internal images through senses, positive emotions and experiences and thus creating an effective learning process in a authentic dynamic environment. Sometimes even unconscious we found out. These mental images will become in the simulation a part of your reference
If people act by survival mode. They will act pro active to survive. Survivors can tell the story of their life. Non-survivors don't, because they aren’t there to tell. So in our simulations it’s about pull learning. Success drive success

Let’s show an example in a short movie.Learning is different from teaching. It is possible to combine language learning with entrepreneurship learning. The edupreneurial method is learning by doing in an authentic environment. The natural way people learn is partly driven by the need to survive. Damasio explains this by examples of how people (organisms) memorize their experiences and how it is stored in our brain. (3 levels: 1. Instinctive (survival mode) 2. Social ... 3. .......) The recognition of certain events is steered by our senses, emotion and feelings. The under the surface stored images become apparent and conscious again through circumstances and similarity of the stored away experiences. Unconscious learning is learning from your personal context by experience.Confucius versus Descartes..
Language is also a verbal expression of culture, daily life, impression, emotions and personal experiences. A tool to communicate and to survive. We proved that playing in a simulation setting with other participants the learning process increased. Participants learned unconsciously by playing the simulation with all their senses, personal emotions and experiences. The drive to survive and win urges them to communicate, interact and connect to other players. The edupreneurial method combines education and entrepreneurship to realize effective, efficient, flexible and creative learningNo communication - no entrepreneurship
Learning is an issue of experience and related references.Focus on a teaching process that makes learning experiences “fit”. Reference Creation is an authentic learning environment which has the abilities to realize such a process:
