- 2. 1. What is democracy and what are the advantages and disadvantages? Democracy is the system by which citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf. An advantage is that citizen representation that it represents citizens and make decisions which are in the best interests of the majority. A disadvantage is misplace trust once the election process is over, the peopleโs voice in government is virtually done. They have to put their faith and trust in the person that they elect to communicate and do things that theyโve promised to do. This is rarely the case.
- 3. What other types of government are there across the world and what are the advantages and disadvantages associated? Disadvantage: No media allowed in country. Personal freedom lost, people treated as machines, materialistic approaches to life problems. Advantage: People have work so they are getting money, for their family and themselves. Which also means economy growth. Houses of Parliament, In England White House in America
- 4. What is the difference between civil Law and criminal Law? Civil Law deals with disputes between individuals in which compensation is often awarded between private parties, whereas Criminal Law deals with crimes such as theft, violent crime, murder etc.
- 5. What alternative systems of law are there in different countries and cultures? Religious Law โ ethical and moral codes taught by religious traditions. Hindu Law โ code of law applied to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs in British India. Christian Canon Law โ informs the community how to conduct themselves and protects the rights of the faithful.
- 6. What is freedom of speech, and what do you think are the rights and responsibilities that come with it, try to give examples that might apply in our own college community? Freedom of speech is you can say anything without fear. The responsibilities that come with it is British citizens should express themselves sensitively and thoughtfully and never with hate. For example in our college community there is something called student voice; where the college students elect the school represents. Lastly students are encouraged to give feedback as well.
