Training on Patient
Confidentiality
Training should be done
continually
• Training should be done during initial hiring
• Six months into first year of hire.
• Annually after that.
Implementation of quarterly ethics
training.
• The organization will prepare presentations to
be given at staff meetings on a quarterly basis
to provide continued training.
• One presentation should be conducted on
HIPPA and patient confidentiality.
• Another presentation will be conducted on
not sharing usernames/passwords.
Training
• All training will include real life situations
– This will help make it more personal for staff
– It will also show the severity of consequences if
confidentiality of patients records are breached.
Effectiveness of Training
• This type of training needs to be given multiple times
to employees. The idea of patients confidentiality is
simple enough, but I believe the problem comes into
play because people don’t fully understand what that
means. I’m sure many of the employees at UCLA who
were caught viewing patient records of celebrities were
only doing it because they were curious; not because
they intended to share the information. It is important
that people understand how important patient privacy
is and one way to ensure that is to remind people
through annual or even semi-annual training.

Implementation of quarterly ethics training. • The organization will prepare presentations to be given at staff meetings on a quarterly basis to provide continued training. • One presentation should be conducted on HIPPA and patient confidentiality. • Another presentation will be conducted on not sharing usernames/passwords.
  • 4. Training • All training will include real life situations – This will help make it more personal for staff – It will also show the severity of consequences if confidentiality of patients records are breached.
  • 5. Effectiveness of Training • This type of training needs to be given multiple times to employees. The idea of patients confidentiality is simple enough, but I believe the problem comes into play because people don’t fully understand what that means. I’m sure many of the employees at UCLA who were caught viewing patient records of celebrities were only doing it because they were curious; not because they intended to share the information. It is important that people understand how important patient privacy is and one way to ensure that is to remind people through annual or even semi-annual training.
