ACCOMMODATION OPERATIONS IN HOSPITALITY
INDUSTRY

ACCOMMODATION
 Accommodation is the process of providing lodging
and fooding services.
 It refers arranging form of beds and breakfast.
 For example Hotels, Flotels, Motels, Inns Resort
and service accommodation
 So it is broad sector of the hospitality industry.
HOUSEKEEPING
 Housekeeping is defines as the provision of
cleaning, comfort and safe environment.
 Housekeeping department create “Home away
from home” environment for a guest.
 The management of housekeeping departments is
influence by factors like size, type, standard and
location of hotel.
 The primary objective of housekeeping is to clean
guest room, bathroom, corridors, and public areas.
 The secondary functions are, preparations of
annual budget, record keeping, interior design,
flower arrangement, provision of linen and
uniform.
Role And Importance Of Housekeeping
 To keep clean, comfortable, safety environment.
 To arrange the proper management of staff in time to
clean.
 Proper utilization of manpower.
 To threat guest cheerfully and courteously.
 To give special service services like babysitter if
necessary.
 To check and maintain the physical properties of the
hotel.
Role And Importance Of Housekeeping Cont.....
 To provide services as per the policy or standard of
the hotel.
 To make good impression on the guest by creating
“Home away from home.”
 To save cost of labor, cleaning equipment’s,
materials, furniture and other materials of the
hotel
Functions Of Housekeeping
BED MAKING :
 Bed making is the act of arranging the bed sheets.
 A guest require a comfortable bed to take rest,
relax and enjoy.
KEY CONTROL :
 The key of rooms and floors have to be handled
by housekeeping department for safety.
 The guest should feel safe before getting in the
room.
SAFETY AND SECURITY :
 If Guest and staff always fear from their other
staff and other personnel then the atmosphere
will be tensed.
 So Housekeeping department is responsible for
providing security to the guest.
INTERIOR DECORATION :
 Interior decoration is the art of creating pleasant
atmosphere in the room.
 If room is well decorated by art, graphs and
amazing photos then guest feel comfortable.
LINEN MANAGEMENT :
 This involves all the function related to linens like
purchase, storage and laundry of linens.
 This department is responsible for maintaining
cloths and linens.
LAUNDRY SERVICE :
 Housekeeping department is responsible for to
insure clean and hygienic washing of all the linen
items.
Section Of Housekeeping Department
 The different type of category of housekeeping is
also called section of housekeeping.
Housekeeper Office :
 It is main administration center of housekeeping
department.
 It should be located within silent zone with
independent cabin with paneled office.
 It is used to council to the staff and head
department meeting.
Control Desk :
 It is the main communication center.
 It should have desk, chair, with more than 1
telephone line.
 It should have large notice board with schedules
day to day instruction arrival list, departure list
etc.
Lost And Found Section :
 This should be small spaced, secured cool and dry.
 This department is responsible for store all guest
articles that are lost and may be claimed later
on.
Flower Room :
 This room should be air condition to keep fresh
flower for flower arrangement.
 The room should have work table, sink and water
supply.
Linen store:
 This room stock of new linen and cloth materials for
uniforms etc.
 The stocks maintain should be enough to replenish
the whole hotel.
Tailor room:
 This room is kept for house tailor to stitch and
mend linen and uniform.
 If house policy is to contract out tailoring work
then tailor room can be avoided.
Linen and uniform room:
 This is the room where current linen and uniform
is store for issue and receipt.
 This room should be large, airy and free from
heat and humidity.
Floor pantries:
 It should keep one complete set of linen which is
required for that floor.
 The pantry should be away from the guest view
and situated at the near of elevator.

  • 2. ACCOMMODATION  Accommodation is the process of providing lodging and fooding services.  It refers arranging form of beds and breakfast.  For example Hotels, Flotels, Motels, Inns Resort and service accommodation  So it is broad sector of the hospitality industry.
  • 3. HOUSEKEEPING  Housekeeping is defines as the provision of cleaning, comfort and safe environment.  Housekeeping department create “Home away from home” environment for a guest.  The management of housekeeping departments is influence by factors like size, type, standard and location of hotel.  The primary objective of housekeeping is to clean guest room, bathroom, corridors, and public areas.  The secondary functions are, preparations of annual budget, record keeping, interior design, flower arrangement, provision of linen and uniform.

Role And Importance Of Housekeeping  To keep clean, comfortable, safety environment.  To arrange the proper management of staff in time to clean.  Proper utilization of manpower.  To threat guest cheerfully and courteously.  To give special service services like babysitter if necessary.  To check and maintain the physical properties of the hotel.
  • 5. Role And Importance Of Housekeeping Cont.....  To provide services as per the policy or standard of the hotel.  To make good impression on the guest by creating “Home away from home.”  To save cost of labor, cleaning equipment’s, materials, furniture and other materials of the hotel
  • 6. Functions Of Housekeeping BED MAKING :  Bed making is the act of arranging the bed sheets.  A guest require a comfortable bed to take rest, relax and enjoy. KEY CONTROL :  The key of rooms and floors have to be handled by housekeeping department for safety.  The guest should feel safe before getting in the room.
  • 7. SAFETY AND SECURITY :  If Guest and staff always fear from their other staff and other personnel then the atmosphere will be tensed.  So Housekeeping department is responsible for providing security to the guest. INTERIOR DECORATION :  Interior decoration is the art of creating pleasant atmosphere in the room.  If room is well decorated by art, graphs and amazing photos then guest feel comfortable.
  • 8. LINEN MANAGEMENT :  This involves all the function related to linens like purchase, storage and laundry of linens.  This department is responsible for maintaining cloths and linens. LAUNDRY SERVICE :  Housekeeping department is responsible for to insure clean and hygienic washing of all the linen items.
  • 9. Section Of Housekeeping Department  The different type of category of housekeeping is also called section of housekeeping. Housekeeper Office :  It is main administration center of housekeeping department.  It should be located within silent zone with independent cabin with paneled office.  It is used to council to the staff and head department meeting.
  • 10. Control Desk :  It is the main communication center.  It should have desk, chair, with more than 1 telephone line.  It should have large notice board with schedules day to day instruction arrival list, departure list etc. Lost And Found Section :  This should be small spaced, secured cool and dry.  This department is responsible for store all guest articles that are lost and may be claimed later on.
  • 11. Flower Room :  This room should be air condition to keep fresh flower for flower arrangement.  The room should have work table, sink and water supply. Linen store:  This room stock of new linen and cloth materials for uniforms etc.  The stocks maintain should be enough to replenish the whole hotel.
  • 12. Tailor room:  This room is kept for house tailor to stitch and mend linen and uniform.  If house policy is to contract out tailoring work then tailor room can be avoided. Linen and uniform room:  This is the room where current linen and uniform is store for issue and receipt.  This room should be large, airy and free from heat and humidity.
  • 13. Floor pantries:  It should keep one complete set of linen which is required for that floor.  The pantry should be away from the guest view and situated at the near of elevator.
