Consequences of
Population Growth in
Pakistan (2023)
physiological changes in pregnancy
Introduction
• Growth is a crucial issue that affects
various aspects of a country's
development.
• Today, we will explore the
consequences of population growth
in Pakistan and its implications.
Current Population Statistics
Pakistan’s current population:
approximately 240 million (24 crores.
High population growth rate: 2.4%
annually.
One of the most populous countries
in the world.
Rapid population growth poses
significant challenges.

 Pakistan has been experiencing rapid
urbanization, with a significant
proportion of the population residing in
urban areas.
Major cities, such as Karachi, Lahore,
and Islamabad, have witnessed
substantial growth in their populations.
Fertility Rate:
Pakistan has a relatively high fertility
rate, indicating the average number of
children born to women during their
reproductive years.
In 2021, the fertility rate was around
3.6 children per woman.
Life Expectancy:
The life expectancy in Pakistan has
been increasing gradually.

expectancy was around 68 years for
males and 72 years for females.
 However, there may have been
changes in these figures since then.
Strain on Resources

availability of resources.

healthcare services.
Increased demand for energy and
transportation infrastructure.

employment opportunities.

inadequate housing and increased
slums

systems and traffic congestion
Strain on public services like sewage,
waste management, and healthcare
facilities.

distributed uneven.
Impact on GDP growth and development
opportunities.
Environmental Impact
Population growth contributes to
environmental degradation.
Increased pollution from industrial
activities and transportation.
Deforestation and loss of biodiversity
due to expanding urban areas.
Pressure on natural resources, leading
to water scarcity and land
degradation.
Social Challenges
Population growth poses social
challenges as well.
Struggles to provide quality education to
all children.
Pressure on healthcare services,
affecting maternal and child health. .
Social inequality and the potential for
social unrest.
