• OBJECTIVE
1 ) Defination
2 ) Importance of iodine
3 ) Regular intake of iodine
4 ) Deficiency of iodine
5 ) Functions of iodine
6 ) Dietary sources of iodine
INTRODUCTION
 Defination :- it is an essential component of the thyroid hormone which are vital
regulator of basal metabolic rate and physical and mental development.
 Nearly 20-30 mg of iodine present in adult humans body.
 It can mostly be found within our thyroid gland and during our body synthesis of
thyroid hormones.
IMPORTANCE OF IODINE
 Iodine is an important for our body because it is a component of thyroid hormone
 These hormone help to regulate our body temperature and our metabolic rate.
 It is support various bodily functions.
 Iodine deficiency can lead to thyroid disorders , cognitive issues and even goiter
 To prevent these health problems, it’s important to ensure an adequate intake of
iodine through diet or supplementation.
• SOURCES OF IODINE
 Food :-
 Seaweed (such as kelp) seafood, dairy products
 Iodine is primarily sourced from natureal sources like seawater and underground
brine deposit.
 It can also be obtained from certain foods for example
 Fish 🐟
 Tuna, and Haddock
 Shellfish 🦐 ( such as shrimp 🍤 , crab 🦐 , and lobster 🦐 )
 Iodine salt is common way to ensure people get enough iodine in their diets.
 Also you can find iodized salt in most grocery stores and it’s used just like regular
table salt for cooking and seasoning food .
RECOMMENDED
DIETARY ALLOWANCE
( RDA ) FOR IODINE

Age Male Female
Birth to 6 – month 110 mcg 110 mcg
7-12 month 130 mcg 130 mcg
1-3 years 90 mcg 90 mcg
9-13 years 120 mcg 120 mcg
19 + years 150 mcg 150 mcg
FUNCTIONS OF IODINE
 Needed to produce the thyroid hormone which is
 support our thyroid function
 Support our health growth and development
 regulate our overall metabolism
 mainten our energy levels
 regulate our body temperature 🌡🦐🦐
IODINE DEFICIENCY
 Iodine deficiency has Multiple adverse effects on growth and development and is
the most common cause of preventable mental retardation in the world 🌍🌎
 Resultedmainly from inadequate thyroid hormone production during pregnancy
and early infancy,
 Iodine deficiency can cause irreversible effects
 Under normal conditions the body tightly control 🛂 thyroid hormone
concentration via TSH
 If Iodine intake falls below approximately 10-20 mcg /day is called hypothyroidism
occurs
 GOITER is the earliest clinical sign of iodine deficiency.

SUMMARY ON IODINE
 In this assignme I explain the importance for Health of lodine. Dretary Sources of
todine and fodine Deficiency. We explain the daily recommended intake of iodine
in Vories by age, with higher requirment during pregancy and lactation. It is
lodine plays a Vital role in human body. Like role in thyroid function and
metabolism regulation etc. It prevent iodine deficiency disorders and maintain
overall well.Well-being.It also maintain the body temperature. Etc .
