Ear tubes, also known as tympanostomy, ventilating, or pressure equalizing tubes, are small tubes surgically placed in the eardrum to help equalize pressure and drain fluid from the middle ear, helping to treat middle ear inflammation or otis media. The document also defines several eye and vision related terms including emmetropia describing normal vision, exotropia referring to an outward turning eye, extraocular movement describing the six muscles that control eye movement, and visual acuity measuring clarity of vision using a Snellen chart.
