This document defines and describes common abbreviations and terms used in ophthalmology and otolaryngology. It explains pressure equalizing tubes (PE tubes) which are surgically implanted to drain ear fluid, and the eye, ear, nose and throat medical specialty (EENT). Additional terms defined include bone conduction (BC), otitis media (middle ear infection), emmetropia (normal vision), extropia (outward eye turn), left eye (OS), extraocular movements (EOM), and visual acuity (sharpness of vision).
