A pressure equalizing tube (PE tube) is a small tube surgically placed in a child's eardrum to drain fluid and equalize pressure in the middle ear cavity. PE tubes are placed in children who experience frequent ear infections. The tubes may fall out on their own or remain in the ear. Otitis media is a middle ear infection commonly seen in children where fluid accumulates in the middle ear cavity. The six extraocular muscles control eye movement through the superior rectus, inferior rectus, lateral rectus, medial rectus, superior oblique, and inferior oblique muscles.
