Ryan Soanes gained audience feedback on his film project through various methods. He screened early versions of his film for his target audience to get their direct feedback, which helped him sculpt the final product. He also used social media, particularly YouTube, to learn demographics of viewers and get comments on how to improve. This online feedback allowed him to iterate his project whenever feedback was received. By incorporating the audience feedback at each stage, Ryan was able to progressively tailor and improve his front cover, magazine review, and short film to better match what his target audience wanted.

1. What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
Ryan Soanes
2. Audience Communication
I communicated with my audience in lots of different ways, one being, audience screenings and
communication. At regular intervals throughout the project I would show my film to a group of
people who matched my target audience and get there honest feedback on what they thought of
the film and making changes as appropriate.
This was a good method to gain audience feedback as it let me
sculpt my final piece around what my target audience wanted.
3. Social Media (Web 2.0)
I also used social media to help me gain audience feedback as this was another good technique,
as we now live in a highly technological world, it’s a very useful method to gain true audience
feedback.
Using Youtube I could look at the demographics and it would tell me who the main age groups
and genders watching my video which was really helpful, and it came back as my target audience
and a bit older, but also it was mainly males.
4. Social Media (Web 2.0)
I also used other features in social media sites such as comments, on Youtube I was able to ask
people to leave me comments about my film what improvements they would like to see.
I found this really useful as I was able to get feedback whenever I wanted and didn’t have to set
up a viewing for my audience as they could do it in there own free time and it really helped me
progress through my project.
5. Progression
With getting more and more feedback on both my ancillaries and short film I was able to edit it
and make it more tailored for my target audience in the next few slides you can see how my
pieces have adapted to match the audience feedback I got.
6. Front Cover
First draft Second draft Final draft Final Product
This shows how I have responded to audience feedback, it shows the stages of my
front cover and after each draft I would get feedback and make changes.
7. Magazine Review

This shows how I have responded to audience feedback, it shows the stages of my
magazine review and after each draft I would get feedback and make changes.
8. Short Film
I was told that my short film originally was too dark, so when I went out and re-
filmed I chose much better lighting which made the film a lot better overall.
