3. ACTION AND NON-ACTION VERBS
• Action verbs – they describe actions. They can be

• Non-action verbs – they describe states or feelings.
They can’t be used in the progressive tense:
Agree, be, believe, belong, depend, forget, hate, hear, know,
like, look like, love, matter, mean, need, prefer, realize,
recognize, remember, seem, suppose, want …
• Some verbs can have two meanings, an action
meaning and a non-action meaning (have, think,
see, look, smell, …)

• Present continuous for future arrangements
