Framing an Appropriate Research Question 6b9b26d93da94caf993c038d9efcdedb.pdf
Question4
1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW
MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE CONSTRUCTION
AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND
EVALUATION STAGES?
2. INTRODUCTION
Throughout the creation of our main task and auxiliary tasks we
used many different media technologies to help us reach a high
standard film, poster and viral advert.
These technologies helped me to research, plan and during
production.
3. YOUTUBE
I used YouTube to research existing professional media
products such as Money lenders adverts for our viral advert and
drama films that could give us some ideas for our own.
I was able to analyze this existing products and determine what
made a good viral advert and what shots work best within a film.
YouTube was also helpful when looking at past A2 films other
students have made and uploaded.
Research and Planning
4. SLIDE SHARE
Research and Planning
Slide share made it easier for me to upload power points to blogger so I could relate
back to them during production.
Furthermore, this helped other members in my group as they could also look at them,
so they were helped to understand certain aspects of what they should do in their own
research.
5. BLOGGER
During the course of my research and planning I used
blogger to constantly upload posts stating what I have
found out from my investigation into existing films and
viral adverts.
The easy access to the blog allowed me to constantly
update myself and I was able to refer to this research when
I was producing my main and auxiliary texts.
Furthermore, I was able to support my research using
video and images so that I could represent my explanations
easier and more precisely.
Research and Planning
6. GOOGLEDOCS
Microsoft word allowed me to type all my posts first to make sure they
were grammatically correct. It also helped that these documents were available
at home as well.
Google questionnaire helped me to produce a simple and easy to use
questionnaire about audiences to figure out our audience profile.
I also found Google mapping highly effective when bringing ideas together
about our storyline, characters and props.
Research and Planning
7. CELTX
We used Celtx to produce professional scripts that helped us to
structure our filming around the props we needed and environment
we needed to film in.
Celtx also helped us to remember what had to be said next as we
could refer back to it. We also used this to script our radio trailer.
Research and Planning
8. CAMERA/TRIPOD
Sony HD1000 cameras provided better quality and more control over
image so that our finished product looked professional. The auto-focus
on the camera helped us to make sure the images was always in focus so
that we didn’t have to re film which saved us time and helped us to stick
to our planning.
After last years practise, I was able to use a tripod to steady filming.
This year I became more confident with movement and experiments with
tilts, pans and the idea of zooming in to perfect shots.
The tripod also helped us follow the 180 degree line as we knew the
tripod should be over a certain characters shoulder throughout filming a
scene.
Production
9. ZOOM RECORDER
We used zoom recorders to create sound bridges which made
our film flow more and make it more believable for our audience.
For example, we recorded the knock again and made sure it
stood out where Destiny is walking into the Loan Sharks office.
This ambient sound was too quiet and needed to be made louder
to fit in with the rest of the sounds/noises.
This device was also used to record the voiceover for the
viral advert and radio trailer, as we noticed from our planning,
most adverts and trailers include to make an effective
production.
Production
10. FINAL CUT EXPRESS
We used final cut express to edit our film, viral advert and radio trailer. From the
skills we learnt last year, we were more confident and able to use effects such as fade
in/out, wire framing and freeze frames. We were also able to include and follow
continuity, rhythmic editing, elliptical editing, graphic matching, adding suitable
transitions, effects, colour correction, sound effects and key framing. We were also
able to add sound bridges over some of the shots to create a professional look.
As we were confident with final cut express we decided to use it to edit together
our radio trailer as well.
Production
11. GARAGE BAND
We used garage band to create music to use within our film. The music
used during the end scene of our film was created on garage band fairly
easily.
This allowed us to create our own music instead of using copyright
music from websites that we couldn’t trust. Furthermore, we were able to
make the music match what is happening in the storyline so it adds
emphasis to the scene. For example, slow pace music when Destiny opens
the letter.
Production
12. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
Production
We used Adobe Photoshop to create out film poster. This helped
us perfect a professional looking poster that reflected our storyline
and advertised our film well.
This also helped us to create our loan shark logo used in our viral
advert. We were able to alter the colour of the initial design in order
for to match our themes.
13. CONCLUSION
These technologies helped us achieve the professional look of our
film and auxiliary tasks. We have developed our skills using these
technologies over the process of creating our film so have been able
to keep improving what we have created, looking back at our research
and planning that we carried out before production.
