Preliminary Task Evaluation
Daisy Allman
Task One: Planning
My planning consisted of brainstorming ideas for radio shows, target audience planning and radio codes and
conventions.
If I was going to redo this task I would make a few improvements. Firstly I would make sure I was content with the
radio name before making a logo because we had to re create our logo at the beginning of the task. This is because we
thought after we had created our name it could be seen as offensive to the elderly as it was called “Old Timers”, we had
already created a logo with this name and re creating it lost us time. It didn’t have a massive impact as we managed to
brainstorm and come up with a new name quickly and efficiently. In the end we came up with name “Greasers” as it
reflects our radio station well as it tells the listener the time period and content.
If we were going to do another radio task I would make sure that the name of the show couldn't be seen as offensive to
anyone from beginning to save myself unnecessary hassle.
Preliminary Planning: Task Two
When planning for our radio station we didn’t split our roles very well meaning that at some points we were working on
the same task and wasting time. If we had a set role each then we could of got our work done quicker and been able to
gain better research.
Despite of this, we still managed to keep up with all the work even though we didn’t have set roles.
In the future, I will make sure that a member of the group takes charge and set roles for each member of the group to
make sure we manage our time effectively.
Creating a jingle
It took us a while to find the music we wanted as all of our music has to be copyright free. There were limited websites
we could use for our music but in the end we managed to find we were looking for.
In the future, I’d change the type of audience to make it wider so I could find more music that fits my theme. If I had
made my audience wider I would have had more music to work with and therefore the task would have been easier.
Even though we struggled to find music that fits, in the end we did and we managed to create a jingle which fitted the
theme and target audience of our radio show.
Editing and Using Audition
I wasted sometime when using Audition as it took me a while to get the hang of using it.
Next time I will make sure that I research the software I am using before I use it so I know how to use the tools and
don’t have to waste any time which could be used for other things such as updating my blog.
I still managed to complete my radio show I found the clips I was using were easy to edit. I managed to find all the
tools I needed after some playing around and managed to complete the radio station with no struggling.
Recording in the Studio
Before we went into the studio we planned our interview by printing off scripts and then highlighting each of our
separate parts. Whilst recording in the studio we had to do some swapping around as Jack struggles to read black on
blue and we had highlighted his work in blue.
In the future, we will make sure we have established everyone reading ability and make sure we use they right
highlighters for each person in the group. Establishing how able each member of the group is at performing certain
task is vital when working in a group.
Although we had to do a lot of swapping and it didn’t go as we’d first intended, we managed to get our recording done
in 10-15 minutes which is pretty quick. We also managed to have a very clear sound.
Recording using a Dictaphone
When we were recording our archive clip, we ask members of our class to sing a Cliff Richard song as we were
interviewing him in the show and we thought it would be a nice way to introduce him. As we had a few people singing
the sound was too loud and became muffled because the didn’t use the Dictaphone properly (they had it too close to
them).
In the future, I will make sure I give specific instructions of what I want doing, so in this case for example, I should
have to the people who were recording that I didn’t want them to hold the Dictaphone to close to their face.
Although this difficulty occurred, we managed to get a clear sounding recording on all of the clips we used from the
Dictaphone after several takes.
Team Work
Our team work went well on a whole, but one problem was the attendance of the group. A lot of the problems we
faced were down to the fact we didn’t feel we could continue with our work when one of our members weren’t here.
If we do another task in teams, we will make sure we have set roles so we can continue with our work no matter what
and do our best to make sure we all attend.
Although we weren’t always here, we all managed to contact each other to ort out what needing doing and what we
could do in class time and in our time.
Blogging
Whilst completing this task, I managed to keep my blog up to date but to improve I would say I could of gone into a
lot more detail whilst blogging to try and gain more marks.
In the future, I will ensure that I complete more blogging in my free time to ensure I gain the most marks I can and
have a lot of detail on my blog.
Despite this, I still managed to complete all the tasks on my blog in the set amount of time given.
Class Work and Independent Learning
My class work was good as I was always working in our class because of the fact I had a lot to do however if I had
done more work independently I wouldn’t have had the amount of work to complete in the classroom.
If we were to do another task like this, I would do more work out of the classroom to reduce the amount in lesson
time and ensure that I manage to complete all the tasks I had to do in the set amount of time.
Individual contribution to the team
If we did this again, I would increase the amount of studies I did independently as I know I didn’t do as much as I
could of done out of the classroom. If I had of done more work I wouldn’t have had as much to do in class time and
would have reduced the amount of work the whole team had to do, not just me.
My individual contribution was good as I edited the radio show on my computer which is obviously of high importance
to the group. I also wrote up the script for the interview (with help from my team) which was important as it saved us
time in the recording studio.
