Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.

SUMMATION CURRENT TRANSFORMERS :
Summation current Transformers are in
association with feeder current Transformers
which may not have the same ratio.Each feeder is
provided with its own current transformer, and
their secondary windings are connected to the
appropriate primary winding of the summation
current transformer. The summation current
transformer has a single secondary winding
which is connected to the burden. It is essential
that the summation current transformers
are used on the currents of the same frequency
and phase.
CORE BALANCE CURRENTTRANSFORMER:
( CBCT ).
The core balance current transformers are used
for sensitive earth fault protection. Generally it is
sufficient to incorporate insulation monitoring for
signaling appearance of earth faults. The
operating staff in such cases will be able to take
the measures to switch the load over to other
feeders and switch out the fault circuits for
repairs.
INTERPOSING CURRENT TRANSFORMERS :
A current transformer which is intended to amend
the ratio of a main transformer by having its
primary winding connected to the secondary
winding of the main transformer and its
secondary winding connected to the burden.

22. INTRODUCTION
Every electrical apparatus or machine is provided
with insulation between live part and earth or
between two different sections of live parts. This
insulation is required to be tested at high voltage
values recommended by applicable relevant
standards.
The standard specification for various electrical
apparatus specifies Power Frequency Voltage
withstand test at different levels depending upon
working voltage of electrical apparatus. It is
observed from the various standards for electrical
equipments that the minimum power frequency
voltage withstand test level for electrical
insulation is 3kV for one minute.
We have, therefore, standardized on
manufacture of Pragati High Voltage Breakdown
Testers with rated voltage of 5kV.
High Voltage Test Sets of higher voltage upto
300kV are also manufactured against specific
requirement. The standard voltages are 10kV,
15kV, 20kV, 25kV, 30kV, 50kV, 100kV, 150kV,
200kV & 300kV. The test sets upto 30kV are
manufactured in Air Cooled design while the sets
of 50kV & above are manufactured in Oil Cooled
design.The output of these high voltage testers is
single phase 50/60Hz.The standard H.T. current
rating of air-cooled design as also of oil cooled
design upto 150kV is 100mA for 30 minutes. For
voltage ranges above 150kV the H. T. current is
100mA for 30 minutes.

Voltage Breakdown Tester is portable, sturdy &
plug in to start type construction & requires
minimum table space. It broadly consists of 3

1. HighVoltageTransformers:
The High Voltage transformer is single
phase, single pole type & is of double
wound resin moulded construction. The
H. T. winding is provided with graded
insulation such that one end is insulated for
3kV insulation and is earthed through a
c u r r e n t s e n s i n g t r a n s fo r m e r s &
milliammeter whereas other end is
insulated for rated voltage & the same
brought out through H. T. cable & spring
loaded Prod.
2. VariableVoltage Source:
Variable Voltage supply is provided through
a Dimmerstat (Variable auto-transformer)
having a suitable rating corresponding to
the rating of H. V. transformer. Dimmerstat is
rated for 230 Volts A. C. input & 0-270V
output. Limit switch at zero position end of
Dimmerstat winding is provided to facilitate
the H. T. winding to energize only when
Dimmerstat is at zero position.

24. INDOOR AND OUT DOOR METERING CUBICLES
“Pragati” manufactures INDOOR AND OUT DOOR METERING
CUBICLES rating from 11 KV to 33 KV. The modern Plant
situated at THANE is equipped with full range of testing
equipments and Plant & machinery to manufacture Metering
Cubicles. “PRAGATI” had supplied good numbers of Metering
Cubicles (Both INDOOR & OUT DOOR) to various OEMS in the
country. These Metering Cubicles are working satisfactorily
under different service conditions at the sites.
APPLICATION: Direct measurement of CURRENT / VOLTAGE
in High voltage system is not possible because of insulation
problem of measuring instruments. It is not possible to use direct
CURRENT / VOLTAGE for the system protection purpose due to
its high value and high insulation problem of protective relays.
The Out door type Metering Cubicles are suitable to install on
structure without any Room or Shade. The cubicle is completely
Weather & Dust proof.
The INDOOR & OUTDOOR type Cubicles are Pilfer Resistant
because of its constructional features and its sealing and locking
arrangements. Also the ELECTRONICS LOCK can be provided
to METER Chamber on Special Demand.
The CTs and PTs we are using in the Metering Cubicles are our
own products. PRAGATI was established in 1975, by electrical
engineers having rich experience in the field of design and
manufacturing of Instrument Transformers.
