 Availability of large amount of clean cooling water
required for the station.
 Location of station on broad gauge main Railway line.
 Constant power supply.
 Proximity to M.P. Coal fields.

o Location:
 situated near village riyanwali about 25km from
Suratgarh town
o Installed capacity:
 1500 MW.
 7th Unit of 250MW is under construction.
o Favorable conditions:
 Availability of large amount of water.
 Location at broad gauge Delhi-Mumbai railway.
 Concentration of load.
 Constant water supply.
 Transmission and grid sub station are quit near.

 5.TEMPERATURE 540 degree
TURBINE
 Turbine is a machine in which a shaft is rotated
steadily by impact of steam it converts heat energy
into mechanical energy.

TURBO GENERATOR
 Designed for continuous operation at the rated output.
 Driven by directly coupled steam
 turbine at a speed of 3000 r.p.m.
 Have two main parts:
• Rotor
• Stator
 A temperature detector is provided
 to maintain the temperature.
 Temperature of windings is
 maintain by H2 coolant.
CONDENSER
The condenser does the job of condensing the steam exhausted from
turbine.
Steam after rotating
steam turbine comes to
condenser. Water is
drawn from a natural
source of supply such as
river,canel or lack and is
circulated through the
condenser. The
circulating water takes
up the heat of the
exhausted steam and
itself becomes hot. This
hot water coming out
from the condenser is
discharged down the
river.
ROTOR
 Smooth cylindrical type
 Rotor shaft made of single piece alloy steel
forging of high mechanical and magnetic
properties.
 The cylindrical structure gives better
balance , less losses
 To avoid excessive peripheral velocity
rotors have small diameter.
 The slip rings are made of forged
steel. They are located at either side of
Generator Shaft.
ASH HANDLING PLANT
 Electrostatic Precipitator(ESP).
 Chimney.
 Ash
 Fly ash (80%).
 Used for making bricks.
 Cement.
 Bottom ash (20%)
 Used to improve fertility.
 Roads.
To collect ash two ponds of capacity 150 & 230 hact. Are available

COOLING TOWERS AND PONDS
o A condenser needs huge quantity of water to condense the steam .
o Typically a 2000MW plant needs about 1500MGallon of water.
oMost plants use a closed cooling system where warm water coming from condenser is
cooled and reused
oSmall plants use spray ponds and medium and large plants use cooling towers.
oCooling tower is a steel or concrete hyperbolic structure having a reservoir at the base
for storage of cooled water
oHeight of the cooling tower may be 150 m or so and diameter at the base is 150 m

 Lightning arrestors
 Current transformer
 Potential transformer
Control panel
 CIRCUIT BREAKERS:
 Bus coupler is provided with minimum
oil circuit breaker of BHEL make.
 ISOLATOR:
 All the isolators are provided in 220 KV
switchyard and are motor operated.
 CURRENT TRANSFORMER:
 All the 220 KV current transformers are
provided for measuring and protection.
 POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER:
 Each of 220 KV buses is provided with three P.T.’S are core for each phase of
BHEL make.
 LIGHTENING ARRESTOR:
 For protection against lightening each if line feeder, generator transformer,
station transformer has been provided three L.A. (One for each phase).

ADVANTAGES OF CHOOSING SURATGARH FOR THERMAL PLANT SETUP  Availability of large amount of clean cooling water required for the station.  Location of station on broad gauge main Railway line.  Constant power supply.  Proximity to M.P. Coal fields.  Transmission and Grid substation are quite nearer to the site.

Introduction Of SSTPS o Location:  situated near village riyanwali about 25km from Suratgarh town o Installed capacity:  1500 MW.  7th Unit of 250MW is under construction. o Favorable conditions:  Availability of large amount of water.  Location at broad gauge Delhi-Mumbai railway.  Concentration of load.  Constant water supply.  Transmission and grid sub station are quit near.

  • 11. TURBINE  Turbine is a machine in which a shaft is rotated steadily by impact of steam it converts heat energy into mechanical energy. TURBINE High pressure Intermediate Low pressure

TURBO GENERATOR  Designed for continuous operation at the rated output.  Driven by directly coupled steam  turbine at a speed of 3000 r.p.m.  Have two main parts: • Rotor • Stator  A temperature detector is provided  to maintain the temperature.  Temperature of windings is  maintain by H2 coolant.
  • 13. CONDENSER The condenser does the job of condensing the steam exhausted from turbine. Steam after rotating steam turbine comes to condenser. Water is drawn from a natural source of supply such as river,canel or lack and is circulated through the condenser. The circulating water takes up the heat of the exhausted steam and itself becomes hot. This hot water coming out from the condenser is discharged down the river.
  • 14. ROTOR  Smooth cylindrical type  Rotor shaft made of single piece alloy steel forging of high mechanical and magnetic properties.  The cylindrical structure gives better balance , less losses  To avoid excessive peripheral velocity rotors have small diameter.  The slip rings are made of forged steel. They are located at either side of Generator Shaft.
  • 15. ASH HANDLING PLANT  Electrostatic Precipitator(ESP).  Chimney.  Ash  Fly ash (80%).  Used for making bricks.  Cement.  Bottom ash (20%)  Used to improve fertility.  Roads. To collect ash two ponds of capacity 150 & 230 hact. Are available `

COOLING TOWERS AND PONDS o A condenser needs huge quantity of water to condense the steam . o Typically a 2000MW plant needs about 1500MGallon of water. oMost plants use a closed cooling system where warm water coming from condenser is cooled and reused oSmall plants use spray ponds and medium and large plants use cooling towers. oCooling tower is a steel or concrete hyperbolic structure having a reservoir at the base for storage of cooled water oHeight of the cooling tower may be 150 m or so and diameter at the base is 150 m

  • 19.  CIRCUIT BREAKERS:  Bus coupler is provided with minimum oil circuit breaker of BHEL make.  ISOLATOR:  All the isolators are provided in 220 KV switchyard and are motor operated.  CURRENT TRANSFORMER:  All the 220 KV current transformers are provided for measuring and protection.
  • 20.  POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER:  Each of 220 KV buses is provided with three P.T.’S are core for each phase of BHEL make.  LIGHTENING ARRESTOR:  For protection against lightening each if line feeder, generator transformer, station transformer has been provided three L.A. (One for each phase).
