Need Nonprofit Board Members? LinkedIn Helps You Make Connections4Good.org
With nearly two million nonprofit board seats open, good board members are hard to find. Yet, according to Taproot Foundation, most professionals want to be on boards.*
How do nonprofits attract the right professionals to their boards, the ones who want to do the job and who have the particular skills needed by the organization? Well, the simple answer is – just ask. The longer answer is you need a conduit to professionals who care. LinkedIn Board Connect now provides that conduit for nonprofits, at no cost.
Ensure your success with 7 tips from board governance and LinkedIn pros, Marc Halpert, Maria Semple and Geri Stengel.
*Taproot Foundation estimates 87% of human resources professionals and 92% of marketing professionals are interested in board service but far fewer actually serve on boards.

Networks and resourcing white paper by Business360 and TFPL December 2013TFPLltd
In recent years we have seen the growth of networks both as a means of locating talented professionals and also as a means for individuals to locate work opportunities
Building on prior studies, Business360 and TFPL decided to undertake some research to better understand how these networks are changing the interface between professionals and organizations
Our fields of work (Business360 as a provider of professional services delivered remotely, and TFPL as a provider of talent location, learning and consultancy services) means we have very different perspectives on this change:
Business360 has seen a growing acceptance by companies of the provision of professional services using individuals working remotely, with whom the companies often have limited communication
TFPL has seen the growing pressure that organizations face in trying to locate the talent they need, with highly specialized skills and competencies, as well as the innovations applied as they try to secure their ideal candidate
----- Meeting Notes (4/20/15 21:20) -----
Hi my name is Mary Fain Brandt, Founder and Owenr of Tru Career Coaching,
Thank you for having me here today. I ve been told I have 15 minutes. So I'm going to try to stay on point.
----- Meeting Notes (4/21/15 08:29) -----
It can be overwhelming and time consuming to utlizlize all the variuos social media platforms... so at the end of my presentation I am going to share with you 3 of my favorite apps to help you manage your time.
By a raise of hands who has a
website?
A LinkedIn profile
Business Facebook page
A Twitter account
An instagram account
Google+
I just named 6 social media platforms
Who uses 2 platforms? 3 platforms? 5 or more?
It takes 7-8 touches for a customer to buy:
Your website
A friend recommends
And advertisement
A relevant article that speaks to them
An event
See a post that interests them
Attend a workshop
Email from you
Do I know what you are selling?
I’m going to share with you a short story about a customer needing 8 touches to buy something.
Looking for shared office space
Went on line to research, asked friends, went and toured 3 different places (looked up 4-5)
Regus, HH, Shared Space,& Davinci
Career Coach mentioned Felena Hansen
I looked her up on Linkedin
I went to the Hera Hub website
I dropped in to check it out
I went back to the website for more info
I took a friend their to check it out with me
The Director followed up with an email
I went back again – then I signed up
When I started my business I did not have a twitter account and I was deadset against it. You have to be able to reach your audience on multiple platforms or media.
Facebook: surprisingly can be used for business not just sharing your photos and checking in places. It can be used for selling a product or service advertising an upcoming event (where you will be showcasing new product)
And for recruiting Company's are allowing employees to post job openings on FB. Tru story. My friend at LPL Financial posted a job and I contacted her about it.
Think about it – advertising budgets can be cut by using social media and your employees to advertise for you.
Website: Can I follow you? Can I share something from your site? Can I save it easily? Consumer, Customers, Clients whatever you want to call them- THEY WANT CHOICES!! The more choices you provide them – the better.
I use Google Calendar and I love it when a website that I am signing up has the “Add to your calendar” button- right? I hate it when Google calendar isn’t a choice!!!
My younger sisters (35 &36) use Instagram- I haven’t set that up yet- but might.
I heard a bout a clothing company that is only on instagram. They take a photo of the item post it and you click to buy, pay it and they ship it to you. Talk about low overhead!
Why does this work? Because that is were their target audience is: mom’s on the go! 25-35
You'll need to conduct some studies to learn exactly how/where you customers are finding you.
LinkedIn – If you are a sole proprietor- is it clear what you sell or provide in your headliner?
A Company Page allows you to learn more about a company you are interested in.
For a business, it's the opportunity to:
Tell your company's story
Engage with followers – ask a question. ‘There’s a debate going on in our office, I say Lemon Chiffon is our customers favorite flavor of cupcakes in the spring.” People love to share their opinion- give them a platform to do it on.
Share career opportunities
Drive word of mouth at sales
Groups: Search based on your prospects:
Title/Position
Industry
Location
Searchablility should be one word know--- watch for it to be added to Webster’s!
Buffer: Schedules your posts for all your social media platforms- I post on FB, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Right now I have 50 articles Que’d up ready to be sent put.
You can choose the frequency and time of your post- they also suggest times for you
Evernote: Scans Business Cards, Connect on LI – when you meet someone at a networking gig.. Connect right there on the spot
Pocket: On-line Library of articles, blogs, not tying up my computer space, you can search by tag
Ie: resume templates, Social Media, Productivity
