Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV)
technologies are vital to the overall automotive industry and also to the user, in terms of
both better fuel economy and a better effect on the environment
This ppt is on regenerative braking in electric vehicle.Electric vehicles, or EVs for short, are becoming more and more popular as an alternative to traditional gasoline-powered cars. These cars are powered by an electric motor that is run on electricity stored in rechargeable batteries, rather than by burning fossil fuels. The batteries are typically lithium-ion, which is the same type of battery found in smartphones and laptops.
The first electric cars were developed in the mid-19th century, but it wasn't until the late 20th century that they began to be developed on a larger scale. The biggest factor driving the development of EVs has been concern over the environmental impact of gasoline-powered vehicles. While gasoline-powered cars produce emissions such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, meaning that they do not contribute to air pollution.
There are two main types of electric vehicles: battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). BEVs run entirely on electricity and have no gasoline engine, while PHEVs have both an electric motor and a gasoline engine, allowing them to run on electricity for short distances before switching to gasoline for longer trips.
The biggest advantage of electric vehicles is their environmental impact. By producing zero tailpipe emissions, EVs help to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This is especially important as the transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions globally. EVs also reduce dependence on oil and can help to stabilize fuel prices.
Another advantage of electric vehicles is their lower operating costs. While the upfront cost of an electric vehicle is typically higher than a gasoline-powered car, the cost of fueling and maintaining an EV is lower. Electricity is cheaper than gasoline, and EVs require less maintenance than traditional cars because they have fewer moving parts.
One of the biggest challenges facing electric vehicles is range anxiety. Unlike gasoline-powered cars, which can be refueled in a matter of minutes, electric vehicles require charging, which can take hours. This means that drivers must carefully plan their trips to ensure that they have enough charge to get to their destination. However, advances in battery technology are making it possible for EVs to travel further on a single charge, reducing range anxiety.
Another challenge facing electric vehicles is the availability of charging infrastructure. While gasoline stations are ubiquitous, charging stations are still relatively rare, especially in rural areas. However, governments and private companies are working to install more charging stations to make it easier for EV drivers to charge their cars.
Despite these challenges, the popularity of electric vehicles is increasing rapidly.
• Plug-in Hybrid-Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), are hybrids with high capacity batteries that can be charged by plugging them into an electrical outlet or charging station. They can store enough electricity to significantly reduce their petroleum use under typical driving conditions
An EV is defined as a vehicle that can be powered by an electric motor that draws electricity from a battery and is capable of being charged from an external source.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Prof.P.M.CHOPADE
2. This presentation will discuss the hybrid electric vehicle
(HEV) transmission system and explain how it works. We will
explore the various components of the system and how
they work together to create a reliable and eefficient
drive train for electric vehicles.
Introduction: The History And
Development of Electric Cars:
3. • How Does an HEV Transmission
Work?
The HEV transmission system works by allowing the electric
motor to power the vehicle in most conditions and allowing
the ICE to take over and increase power when needed. This
combination allows for superior fuel efficiency and
improved performance. The HEV transmission also allows
for regenerative braking, which captures and stores kinetic
energy from braking and uses it to power the vehicle.
4. • What is an HEV Transmission?
HEV transmissions are special transmissions designed
speci cally for electric vehicles that combine a traditional
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) with an electric motor.
This combination allows for superior fuel e ciency as well
as increased power when compared to ICE powered
vehicles. The combination of both systems also allows for
improved performance and better acceleration.
5. Electric vehicles are powered either by a direct-drive system
or by di erent types of transmission systems. The three
main types of transmission systems utilized in electric
vehicles are single-speed, variable-speed and CVT
transmissions. All these transmission systems act as a
bridge between the electric motor and the drive axle for the
electric vehicles.
The Three Types of Electric Vehicle
Transmission System:
6. The electric vehicle transmission system consists of a number
of components such as the battery, electric motor, controller,
driving unit, di erential/gearbox, wheels, and drive axles. The
battery stores the power generated by the engine and
provides the electricity required by the electric motor to drive
the vehicle. The controller regulates the motor's power output
and regulates power to the wheels, while the drive unit
transmits the power to the wheels. The di erential and
gearbox further reduce the speed and provide torque to the
wheels while driving. All these components are essential to
the working of an electric vehicle transmission system.
The Component of an Electric Vehicle
Transmission System:
7. •How an Electric Vehicle Transmission
System Works:
The electric vehicle transmission system works by transferring
energy from the battery to the wheels, thus enabling the
vehicle to drive. The electric motor is powered by electricity
stored in the battery which then powers the wheels through
the controller and drive unit. The di erential and gearbox
further reduce the speed and provide torque to the wheels.
Together, these components work together to power the
electric vehicle and make it move.
8. •What are the Benefits of an
HEV Transmission?
The HEV Transmission system many advantages to
electric vehicles, including fuel-efficiency, better
performance, increased safety, and regenerative braking.
Additionally, it makes electric vehicle technology more
a ordable and accessible, allowing more people to access
the bene ts of electric vehicles.
9. Despite the numerous advantages of electric vehicle
transmission systems, there are some drawbacks. High
initial cost is the main disadvantage associated with an
electric vehicle transmission system requiring considerable
investment. Additionally, the battery technology is still in its
nascent stage of development and an electric vehicle will
require frequent recharging depending on its rate of usage.
The Drawbacks of an Electric Vehicle
Transmission System:
10. •The Future of Electric Vehicle
Transmission Systems:
Increasing popularity of Electric Vehicles and its advantages
have led researchers to further invest in the development of
transmission systems. This is expected to reduce the cost of
the system and make it more e cient in the coming years.
Along with the focus on creating e cient battery
technology, electric transmission systems are projected to
o er great results in performance.
11. • Conclusion:
The HEV Transmission system many advantages for
electric vehicles, such as fuel-efficiency, better performance,
increased safety, and regenerative braking. Additionally, it
makes electric vehicle technology more a ordable, allowing
more people to participate in alternative transportation
methods.
