The Quality System
There are needs for a quality system in an organization because:
i. To achieve customers need and satisfaction.
ii. To provides systematic, uniform and clearly procedures to run the
organization
iii.To keep on competing with other organization
The quality system is based on 3 stages of documents:
i. Quality Manual
ii.Quality System Procedures
iii.Other documents such as Process Flow Diagram and Standard
Operation Procedures
ISO 9000 Series
• The ISO 9000 series is a set of international standards on quality
management and quality assurance. The basic concepts of ISO 9000
series:
i. ISO 9000 is a standard for quality system
ii.ISO 9000 is a based on documentation
iii.ISO 9000 promote the prevention action
iv.ISO 9000 is a universal standard
There several standards associated with the ISO series such as:
• ISO 9000:2005 describes fundamentals of quality management systems,
which form the subject of the ISO 9000 family, and defines related terms.
• ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a quality management system
where an organization :
needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets
customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of
the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system
and the assurance of conformity
• ISO 9004:2009 provides guidance to organizations to support the
achievement of sustained success by a quality management approach. It is
applicable to any organization, regardless of size, type and activity. ISO
9004:2009 is not intended
The Benefits of ISO
The benefits of applying ISO standards:
i. Helpful for an organization that do not currently have management system because it provides
guidelines for establishing the system and making it effective.
ii. Help to improve the image of the organizations. The customers will assume that companies that
have ISO certification will provides high quality products/service.
iii.Reducing the correction action because there are predetermined jobs and detailed steps of the
operation should be followed by the workers.
iv.The workers can do their jobs right at the first time. So, it could reduced the cost and operations
time.
v. The process review will result in problems identification and improvement towards the process.
The disadvantages of ISO
i. The employees are less creative and less innovative in doing their
jobs because there are predetermined procedures they have to follow.
ii.The companies with ISO 9000 certificate can prove their quality only
through the documentation based on their surveillance towards
predetermined procedures.
