Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. What is a code of practice?
Set of guidelines and regulations to be followed by members of and industry, organisation, or group
Not law (ie not mandatory), but may guide compliance with provisions of an Act or regulation
In some cases, failure to observe an approved code of practice can be used in legal proceedings as
evidence of failure to comply with and Act or regulation.
The 2 codes of practice for insulation cover insulation under the EEIS, other codes of practice that relate
to the installation process include;
• Energy Efficiency (Cost of Living) Improvement (Eligible Activities) Code of Practice 2020, and

6. Insulation Codes of Practice
The Energy Efficiency (Cost of Living) Improvement (Eligible Activities) Code of Practice is an Instrument made
under Section 25 of the Act, which gives details on how activities are to be undertaken. It explains the general
obligations and competencies required for delivering all EEIS activities. It also gives activity-specific information on
training, safety, licensing and other requirements.
In particular: Ceiling Insulation (Activity 1.8); Under-floor Insulation (Activity 1.9) and Ventilation Opening Sealing
(Activity 1.3);
The Energy Efficiency (Cost of Living) Improvement (Record Keeping and Reporting) Code of Practice is an
Instrument made under Section 25 of the Act, which gives details on how the Act and other EEIS instruments are
administered. It describes general obligations and establishes the requirements for compliance plans, activity
records, activity certification compliance period reports, independent information audits. Activity-specific record
keeping and reporting requirements are also included.

which establishes the eligible activities that can be
undertaken by energy retailers to achieve the

9. National Construction Code NCC/BCA
Is also classified as a regulation and set of standards
• A code containing the performance requirements and technical requirements for the
construction of buildings.
• Has legislated power to regulate certain aspects of building work in accordance with relevant
legislation in each State and Territory

10. National Construction Code NCC/BCA
Aims to achieve and maintain acceptable standards of structural
sufficiency, safety (including from fire), health and amenity
Contains technical provisions for design and construction of buildings
and other structures
‘Deemed to Satisfy’ clauses specify minimum R-values across 8
climate zones
2019 changes to the NCC mean that new homes in Australia have
to comply with mimimum energy efficiency requirements.
This requires insulation products to comply with Australian Standard
AS/NZS 4859.1.
Also, the thermal resistance (R-value) shown on all product labelling
must be determined by a recognised laboratory, accredited to
test the relevant Standards and procedures.
